  • Very nice, but I like Buddy's version better.

  • Pure soul.

  • Hello, Ive been looking for a copy of this song and one called Bewildered - I can listen to it on the computer but Id like it on CD or cassette for my own home collection and of course cant find any cds of them lol all the great artists recordings are too obscure to collect i geuss, can you help me? If you know where to buy a box set or if theres a way you are able to burn the recordings you have I'd be thrilled to buy a copy . Make it a great day! decca_records@hotmail.com.

  • Dan auerbach

  • Mickey & Sylvia was one of the Earliest Black musicians to appear "regularly on Television! They say White artist came to Harlem copied Black performers then took the the acts UPTOWN! Then TV came & Black were left out! They mentioned JERRY LEWIS & DEAN MARTIN. Of course you remember THE OSMONDS shadowing THE JACKSON (5). It goes back to the Minstrel Days.

The Black Group that preceded MICKEY & SYLVIA on TV was THE BILLY WILLIAMS QUARTET. On the SID CEASAR & EMMA JEAN COCO show!

  • What a beautiful Lady, with a beautiful voice. RIP Sylvia. Timeless..

  • @Glefit Ms. Sylvia also playing guitar, a rare thing in those days (and even today): A woman out front who can also pluck the guitar, sing, and lend her presence to a song. She was a forerunner who successfully negotiated the treacherous music industry, including its white supremacy and sexism. The "talking" guitar sound used by M & S was a formative influence on the guitar genius who later shook up the entire music world: Jimi Hendrix. Respect and esteem are due this artist. She lives!

  • RIP. Im glad her baby called Hip Hop still lives on today. She helped form and produce the sugar hill gang to get this hip hop thing going. Thanks for all youve done!

  • Life is too short and I never heard this song either. Bye Sylvia! RIP!

  • Never heard this song but I loved it. RIP Sylvia

  • R.I.P. Sylvia Robinson. Passed away today.

  • One can have one's preference either way, but listening to them back to back is a beautiful illustration of the unlikely synthesis of rodeo music and Caribbean rumba that was by then coming to be called rock&roll.

  • Buddy Holly recorded as this as a knockabout demo in his apartment with a guitar (Don't take any notice of the overdubbed versions - that is not Buddy's work).

M&S version is a full studio master.

Personally I love them both, but I take them for what they are.

  • Come on, guys. It's okay to love Mickey, Sylvia, and Buddy Holly. Both versions are great.

  • tu eres muy bonita!

  • Wonderful :)

  • jor99912 Is a idiot!

  • People that say (I LIKE THIS WAY BETTER THAN the BUDDY HOLLY VERSION!

As If there is a comparison! HOLLY demonstrates that CRAP" started long ago!

Are these peoples serious or Totally "DEAF". BLACK KEYS! Same Thing! Why would they even waste time listening to "BEAUTIFUL MUSIC & making ridiculous comments, When Obviously, (They Can't Even "FEEL" the music!

They remind me of POP UPS on my computer screen. SO ANNOYING!

  • This version is sweet & definitely my favorite, but a close second goes to The Black Keys...very different from this but oh-so enticing as well! Mickey & Sylvia have such a tender and endearing power to all their duets. Love is Strange is sublime and unique...and probably their most famous song after being featured in the 80's classic "Dirty Dancing" movie. Shoot...it was the 80's right? Maybe border of the 90's? OHhh NOoo...I've reached that age where it all starts to blur..1st time happening!

  • buddy loved mickey and sylvia and in the privacy of his home, sung them all.....

hopefully one day more tapes will come to light and buddy will again do a M&S

    recording....

  • In my opinion Mickey Baker was the first cool guitar player. I never heard anyone bend a string before him.

  • @Dust6chap6 He plays it like a Steel Guitar! And you're right, He bends the strings like a STEEL GUITAR!

Mentioning Mickey & Sylvia, with Buddy Holly & The Black Keys is insulting! Peoples that don't know, or care about music! You can follow them with (ROY ORBISON), (SANTOS & JOHNNY), you'd be acting like you are at least not TOTALLY DEAF!

  • I could listen to these tunes all day.

  • What an Attractive couple. We need them back..today. Youtube Loves (Mickey & Sylvia)

  • man oh man, this recording is delightful, puts me into a time machine.

  • What a beautiful song. Thanks for posting it.

  • @1956MercM260 What would I Do by Mickey and Sylvia is much better than this song.

  • This is the cat who plays the great guitar on Screamin' Jay's Okeh hits.

  • Sylvia also did the scratching on alot of early hip hop releases.

  • Are they Black or White? Can't really tell from the photo...

  • @GrindStreetMusic Both are Black.

  • @GrindStreetMusic: Not sure that it matters...?

  • @1956MercM260 Of course it matters. Think about the era that this music is from...

  • @GrindStreetMusic: Yeah, you've got a point. But even then, I didn't care about the backgrounds of the musicians; only whether the music was good or not. And in those days, most of it was really good. :)

  • are they still married

  • a very unusual sound with a rare blues and rock sound , a one and only.

  • LOL...yes, Sylvia Robinson...would later to become known (in my own words) The Mother of Rap Music...first, let me explain that rap music is the commercial form of hip hop music...now, she created Sugarhill Records in '79, 'n it's first release was the monumental giant "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill Gang (which is consider'd the second rap record to be press'd 'n released after the Fatback Band's "King Tim III")!!! SHE'S A TRUE DIVA...

  • @meechamaka411 -Sylvia also played bass on th "Rapper's Delight."

  • Sounds to much like their other more famous hit "Love is Strange"

  • best version.........sweet.

  • all i can say is mickey can play that guitar....

  • I love it..it reminds me of the Goodfella soundtrack..Im gonna buy their CD now..

  • one of the most entertaining couples to have ever graced the stage. Todays kids

should look and take lessons on how to sell your music and the soul.

  • Just recently discovered this song. Fantastic!

  • Truly Brilliant!

  • Wow..this..song is...perfect.

  • love this song

  • undead singer

  • do you have any idea where i can find their discography? i googled them but i cannot download anything except from "love is strange."

  • The other great female creator of the 50s was Gretchen Christopher of the Fleetwoods. Thank you, both.

  • Thank you for the photos!! Very nice. DrT

  • Amazing music, I had no idea how many great song Micky and Sylvia recorded. Thanks for turning me into a total fan, love them!

  • buddy loved this song by M & S....who doesn't?

  • a very good version,but i prefer buddy's better.thanks for posting a good alt ver

  • This is the original version

  • First time I've heard this. Great harmonies and rhythms. Mickey's lead break here sounds quite modest for a man who wrote two highly-influential books on playing jazz guitar.

  • argggg, haven't been able to find a record, tape or cd of them anywhere...but they sure are great, it keeps on distracting me from my homework :P

  • Another gem from this exceptionally influential pair - their music clearly haunted Buddy Holly (in the best possible way!) - and there aren't many other performer/songwriters whose legacy has caused as many ripples over such a wide area and over such a long period of time as the late great Buddy! Thanks for posting this one!

  • I love the video and song.

  • buddy holly's version is way better, this is good though.

  • I like this way better than Buddy Holly's version... thanks for posting it!

  • @theunemployed I have to disagree

  • @theunemployed Yes, there's no comparison - this version of Bo Diddley's song positively smokes the rest. It's much better than Holly strumming it in his home studio, with no intention of it ever being heard, just weeks before he died. That we are even comparing only speaks volumes. If you're still looking for a job, maybe you should think about a career as a music critic.

  • @ocduff - Bo Diddley? Any chance you meant "Dearest Darling"? Or is this your attempt at being spectacularly witty?

  • what wonderful music..im in my twenties and only heart of these thru dirty dancing film, waw, beautiful voices

  • love it

  • being a big M&S fan with all their music ever recorded....the flip of Love Is Strange is most awesome and should have been a double sided hit....IM GOING HOME

  • one of their best recordings...........too bad dick clark didnt like them

  • I love the Buddy Holly version of this song so I thought I'd check out the original....Unfortunatley I think I still perfer he Holly version, but this is very nice too ^_^

  • i agree. this version is a diamond, buddy cut it to a brilliant

  • sylvia was nine kinds of fine...saw them live back in the 60s,in st louis gaslite square...great guitar picking and could she grind on that microphone stand

  • Sylvia was fine as hell.

  • Sylvia was a HONEY

  • Only 17 when they did "love is Strange"

  • Were they really! That song stayed with me for over 50 years

  • Well, Sylvia Vanderpool was 17 when she sung "Love is Strange" and as I think this is the flip side she's in same age here. Mickey Baker was older though I can't recall from memory how old.

  • This is a great song. Buddy Holly did this as a home recording right before he died. Both versions are great. To bad no one does music like this today.

  • Hear! Hear!

  • This is a fabulous song. Thanks very much for posting it!

  • This was co written by the late great Bo Diddley

  • Still love their sound. What a guitar. Thanks.

  • Thank you so much for posting this song. =)
