For everyone complaining, Diorama is by far their best album. The melodies and maturity just shine through, and the music is smarter than any music Daniel Johns has written to date. If people can't comprehend that, well then they are just dumb.
This is an amazing song, from an amazing album. I think Young Modern was the maturity of Silverchair, and if it doesn't really rub you the right way, you can't consider yourself any type of Silverchair fan.
@sulfurric i really dont agree with you here, just becuase young modern isnt my favourite silverchair album, it doesnt mean that im not a silverchair fan :s thats a ridiculous thing to say to someone! Im sure there are a couple of silverchair songs that arent your favourite songs, does that mean that your not a true silverchair fan! and what are you even implying, that i cant appreciate their maturity, grow up! i love silverchair, they're amazing, so obviously i am a fan, arent i??
@TheRockchick94 Did you respond to this three month old comment to stir up drama? The whole idea of comments are personal opinions, I expressed mine, and you obviously didn't like it. This album is the mature of them, overcoming issues, and writing better. I'm not sure why -you- personally took offense to my comment, since I didn't specifically say -your- name.
im not into drama.. just didnt like what you had to say. I took offence becuase ive been a silverchair fan since i was like, duno, 10 and just becuase Yound modern is its not my favouite doesnt mean im not a fan, thats all im saying.
@sulfurric oh and saying its better writing is simply down to opinion, his writing makes no sence on young modern. But if you can unravel it, good for you!
@TheRockchick94 Everything about their maturity is better. You don't have to understand it, few fans do, and few fans hold Silverchair in a different light. Most artists make music for their personal vent, and there's usually always a fan that can tag along mentally and hit the same spot. You should probably be the one to chill out, maybe I should find it offensive that silverchair fans can't adapt to the bands growth; I don't. Like I said.. different strokes.
Incredible musicianship all around. I'm surprised so many people dislike Young Modern; I feel it's a natural progression from Diorama (another brilliant Silverchair album). His hard to discredit the songwriting when it feeds from numerous different musical styles, twists and turns, and it all feels natural and unforced.
Althought I don't really like anything from young modern except maybe 2 or 3 songs, his lyrics seem to be a lot more well written on this album. They seem like more coherent thoughts than just ramblings.
I agree with you, lyrically and musically Daniel has evolved and then evolved again, and his skills as a musician and songwriter are extremely sophisticated now. He is so talented, and lol, as my other comment says, not the least bit hard to look at either.
I love this DVD...Although DIORAMA IS THE GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME Young Modern is still good, not as good as their older stuff but it's still really fucking amazing!
there new modern stuff is totally different from..well..all music nowadays. It certainly is very creative. Young modern actually reminds me of some japanese bands like Mr. Children or Spitz. Maybe Silverchair got their inspiration from them. Whatever it is, Young Modern requires some time to get used to it.
I read somewhere that Daniel Johns got a lot of Young Modern inspiration for Autobahn by Kraftwerk. I think theyre a little bit like what you're talking about :-)
you're exactly right, Young Modern does take some time to get used to. the first time i heard it i hated it, didn't even listen all the way through. but it grows on you, and i love it just as much as all their other albums now. it's fun to dance to, lol.
from beginning to end this vid just completely captivates you doesn't it? There is only one way to describe it just like several others have put it--masterpiece! I love all Silverchair music but I can't get enough of this beautiful/kicky song and all their new stuff lately!
p.s. check out how Ben looks at Dan at 7:09..so serious/into the music..LOVE IT!
One of my favourites from daniel... He's such authentic genuis and an all-heart artist... i love you daniel!!! Don't waste time on the negative comments if you're reading this... Hehe... Stay as amazing as you are...
this song is such a masterpiece as everyone else has said... i don't get tired of this song... haaayyy...
i have to say, this is probably my fave song off their new album (after straight lines.. ofcourse).. its melodically beautiful :P sounds like something of a movie soundtrack
This makes me think that I really should get off my arse and buy the DVD... Silverchair have been my favourite since I was 13 but this has revived my respect for them, Daniel in particular. I took for granted how awesome his vocal ability is live. What a performer! He really gets into his character when he's on stage. I'm so glad he's an Aussie. :D
I don't think it is his range, most people just say that because they don't know what they're talking about. It is the rasp that he once had but doesn't anymore. But thats just growing up. Daniel would have an aneurism if he tried to belt out Learn to Hate nowadays. Great performance nonetheless.
thank you for saying what I'm always trying to get across to people sirnathan..lol..and I completely agree...amazing performance and best song on YM...beautiful!!!
Ok. I figured out about the rasp, I think (I do a *LOT* of Silverchair covers). DJ never learned how to "properly" sing until recently. Back in the day, he sang through his sternum. When you sing through your sternum, if you tighten up your chest, you create a raspy sound, which is cool and I got pretty addicted to doing that (singing "No Association" and stuff). But after a while it shreds your vocal chords. Singing from your diaphragm, which he does now, produces a cleaner sound and no rasp.
That actually makes a lot of sense, so thanks. I too, did a lot of Silverchair covers, but mostly from Frogstomp and Freakshow. Even with my original songs, I can't sing at 25 the same way I could at 15 and 16. Even if I'm not a Young Modern fan, I'm glad Daniel seems to be happy for once.
I listen to my favorite silverchair songs on my way to work every morning, (for the past 2 months at least) and i cant believe how freaking amazing he is! His voice in concert is just amazing! Brutally amazing!
I can't believe all this "new daniel sucks, I miss frogstomp" thing, the guy looks happy, but yeah, I honestly prefer their other albums, but, well, music is like that, it would be boring to have an album that sounds like their previois ones, I admire them because they always try new things, if they like what they do, that's what really matters, if you dont like young modern, dont buy it! that's what I did, I own all of their albums except that one, so what's the big deal?
This is one of my favourite songs off Young Modern and I was quite worried incase they didn't do it well. I'm absolutely blew away, this is quite possibly the best live song I've ever seen them do. It's so beautifully done. God I love this amazing band.
You're just not in the right placew for it. Me, I love the newer stuff for my "good" days, and the older stuff when I'm feeling angry or depressed. Fortunately I don't feel angry or depressed all the time, and I also have diverse musical tastes.
I also have diverse musical tastes...i only think daniel got wrong with Young Modern - Diorama and Neon Ballroom are 10000 times better... So you got depressed just to listening to music? What a sensitive girl you are!
I don't get depressed from listening to music. But when I am depressed I prefer angry, depressing music. When I'm happy I like happy music. I listen to Neon Ballroom when I want to wallow in my depression, Diorama when I'm trying to feel better, and Young Modern when I'm feeling good. That's why I love silverchair so much. They have music for my every mood.
WOW! Love this song!! They did such a fantastic job, but then they always do. Silverchair is the BEST live band!(and the best band around, period) Thanks for sharing :)
