  • Thanks so much for posting this. My mother has a 2001 PT Cruiser and her battery just went out a few days ago.

  • thanks for the help *bro fist*

  • you should connect positive first then negative

  • Thanks for putting this up. I would never have found the retaining nut

  • The nuts on the battery terminals are 10 metric not lineman pliers but thank you for the video it was helpful :)

  • This is super helpful. I have a 2001 PT Cruiser and YES you should remove the entire air filter box unless you have tiny elf-like hands. You need the room to remove and install the battery.

  • It would be much better if he was using the right tools for the right project, using lineman's pliers to tighten the bolts is a no no

  • My.dad has a

09 and this vid helped we was praying n shit out of it.. but we got it...Thanks

  • Thanks Mr bean... Didn't know you also a mechanic...

  • Thank you so much!! I learned and changed the battery with your information. Greetings from Curitiba Brazil.

  • Holy crap! He's using pliers to tighten the terminal clamp bolts (about 5:00).

Gotta use the right size wrench there dood! Ouch!

  • Wow - yes make sure to remove negative first - and clean the terminals Before you put in a new battery. Also oil the hold down bolt so it's not rusted next time.

Oh yes - Never use lineman's pliers on the bolts and nuts. Take the money you saved and buy a 10mm wrench. 1/2 inch if you have replaced the terminals with standard ones.

  • Thanks mate, you're a legend!!! Just what i needed! Crap handbook doesn't tell you how to!! What a joke!!

All done in 20mins thanks to you.

    Keep up the good work!!!

  • Mystery solved, THANK YOU!

  • ty man worth it

  • I appreciate the helpful video, but now my electronic key fob doens't respond, reset, or respond to like after changing the fog batteries. Can anyone help. I followed manual instructions to the word, but, nope, nothing.

  • thank you, i thought the fuse box had to come out to get to a bracket holding the filter box. you're awsome for showing how to.

  • Thanks the video helped me get my moms car battery changed

  • Just replaced mine...thanks : )

  • I needed this today! Thank you so much for putting this on Youtube! I can't believe the factory booklet doesn't include this...

  • thanks i just didn't like how you rushed but it was informative. lol i was glad to know that i won't break anything when i pulled out the air filter. That was the only thing stopping me, from removing Battery.

  • Whats is the voltage and the ampiere for the battery that is used in PT Cruiser 2005 limited edition?......Thank you

  • You don't have to remove the lower air cleaner box to get at the battery! Second, remove battery tray to make sure your battery support bracket isn't corroding due to chemical reaction of battery gases.

  • thanks a ton, it took me about 5 minutes once i got the system down thanks so much... the clamp part is what confused me.. once i saw that it was easy peasy :)

  • Comment removed

  • never use pliers to tighten any nut or bolt youll strip the shit out of it

  • Thanks!

  • My PT Crusier is a 2006 and this video was useful for my battery replacement. Thank you.

  • Thanks for the video. Made my day much easier. 2005 touring edition almost identical to this video.

  • This video was great - thanks for making it! My 2005 Dream Cruiser was dead on Saturday night, so I searched to see if there were any videos. Yours told me exactly how to do it. My Cruiser has a thick steel upside-down U-shaped bar that holds the battery down to its holder rather than a screw plate at the base of the battery. It's buzzing right along now with a new battery. Keep up the good work!

  • thanx.......that told me something i wouldn't have known how to do, or what to do...........that air filter box is something else to get out of there; that was my problem in the first place, i thought i would damage (the pieces that hold it) if i jerked it out like you did; now i see there wasn't a problem. :)

  • Thanks so much for the instruction! I own a '02 and your instructions were very helpful.

  • Great, thankyou for posting

  • Thank You for shooting this video, with your help I was able to get the air filter box out. You are the MAN!

  • thank you so much i would have never got that old one out....single moms love these how to things!

  • Oh Dear God.......THANK YOU

  • WHAT A BIG HELP! THANK YOU!

  • Thanks, I was able to change the OEM battery in a 2005 PT Cruiser in the CarQuest parking lot (with their tools) in 10 minutes. It took longer to pay and wash my hands then to change the battery. Your video was very helpful.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you. My son was extremely frustrated when he couldn't figure out how to get the darn battery out of my 2001 PT Cruiser. I came to the rescue by finding your video.

  • Second time I used your video KUDOS for posting this. Many thanks!

  • Scary as Bakanee said and in sandals. No no no. Thanks for the video though it explains the mystery of this battery.

  • Thanks. The store balked when I asked them to install it. This video made it so easy. I had the battery out in about 30 seconds! It took about 10 minutes altogether; it actually took longer to go buy another battery than to change it out.

  • Thank you for posting this! Your instructions made it easy to swap out my dead battery at a desperate time.

  • Thanks so much and thank God (or Al Gore ; ) for the internets.

  • Thank you for this video. I couldn't get the air box out until it was a matter of a quick yank upwards in my 2007 car. The bottom of the box has two molded plastic long knobs that are held in by two rubber washers. I would figure two screws would hold it in place better but not to be in a pt. Cruiser. lol

  • Thanks man!, for being a good samaritan

  • Awesome video, would never have figured this out by myself - with this video changed by first battery EVER in 30 minutes on my 2006 PT Cruiser - pretty much everything was identical to this video. Thanks, you rock!

  • Wow. What a suprise I had when I relized that changing my crusier battery was not as simple as my previous cars. But with the help of your video and some comments...Wham...Bam...Thank You Man. Had it done in 20-30 minutes. Thanks.

  • Awesome. I was stuck and this saved the day. Thanks.

  • Thanks for this video! Last night my car wouldn't start, only "click, click, click". A jump failed several times. Bought a battery from Walmart ($47) and was able to change it myself, well my friend helped take off the nuts. Now my car is running again. :)

  • Great video. Saved me some time of snooping under the hood, I knew exactly where to go.

You may want to check your local junkyard for batteries. The one near me stocks new batteries with a 1 year warranty for $30.

  • pretty good hosting and camera work

  • THANK YOU! Thanks to this video I was up and running in no time.

  • Thanks for this video. My husband couldn't get the battery out of my PT Cruiser. He went to the Chrysler dealership and no-one there could tell him how to do it either - unbelievable!

Anyway, one look at your video and he had it out - thanks again!

  • Man, you rock like a big red dog! I tried to change this stupid battery and was going on fine until I got to removing the air filter box. "Just yank on it" didn't occur to me. I got frustrated and was going to pay Sears $30 to change the battery - but after watching this video I got it done in 15 minutes. Thanks!!

  • Thanks to this video I was able to change the freaking battery on this car I work at a used car dealer and we couldnt do this shit.........thanks a lot after seeing this it was pretty easy a lot of work but easy

  • Thanks to this video I was able to change the freaking battery on this car I work at a used car dealer and the car sat for like 2 weeks because we couldnt do this shit.........thanks a lot

  • Great vid. FWIW, the DC Svc Mamual For 2001 DOES state to remove air housing first (ignore cartonk below). But do agree with Bakanee to remove negative first, again per manual.

  • thank you!!

  • Thanks for posting this! My 05 Turbo was a little different but your video was still very helpful.

  • Thanks a lot man, I feel like a total idiot...one for buying a PT Cruiser and second for showing me how to do this. You rock man. Thanks again.

  • Stari ti si car, sred noči na letališu spasil zadevo na polno. CAR!

  • Brez tebe pa brez enga papuca bi bli mi na pol bos!!!!!

  • Thanks. I thought the battery box just popped out but I wasn't sure until I saw your video. catonk is in fact the dumb ass.

  • thanks alot!

  • Cool. Trying this tomorrow.

  • Thanks for the video, my fiancees' 02 PT had a dead battery at her work at the mall. I didn't have that many tools in the car. I got the air cleaner cover of but didn't know to or how to remove the air box. I got it out using muscle.

Thanks for the how to video.

  • Thanks. You just saved me a $60 towing charge.

  • Thanks a million for this video!! I got as far as taking the cover off the air filter box, but was stuck as to where the tie down was located thanks a million again. Now I will install my new Powermaster XS Power S925 Battery!!

  • Use a Powermaster-XS-S925-AGM(Dry Cell) Battery. I have 1 installed and it's the best battery ever made!! It is 3 pounds lighter than the factory Mopar(26 LBS). The S925 weighs only 23 LBS. Powermaster batteries also have twice the max amps of any regular battery on the market. S925(2400 Max Amps). Powermaster batteries also last 10 years with daily drivers, and they charge twice as fast. Hope this helps. Laterz.

  • i need help.. i have a Pt cruiser 2.4 2007, and need know what battery is the indicate for this model???.. what is the max capacity ... en volt?

  • Thanks man - I watched this and flew through it. You rule - you saved me a ton of time!

  • oh thx for the my pt's battery was dead, and the problem is with the air filter box!! lol never thought that was so simple :O

  • Thanks for taking the time to post your video - saved me a lot of time!

  • Now I know! Not as difficult as I thought now I've seen your video.

    Cheers

  • Thank You So Much! I could not fiqure how that air filter housing was connected. Just pull real hard! Too easy!

  • mhmhm not trying to hate or anything but y the plyers and when taking the battery mount out with the 1/2 y didnt he use a longer extention makes since any never use plyers as a tighing tool he could of used a battery tool or a 8 or a 10 it looks like a 10 to me but oh well he got it done but could of been easier

  • Make sure to disconnect the battery leads first before loosening the battery hold down bolt. In addition you MUST remove the negative battery lead first before removing the positve lead. This eliminates the risk of shorting the positive battery lead to ground thus minimizing the potential of a battery explosion. Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

  • Thank you. That's something I didn't know. :-)

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I was struggling with the air filter box and the battery hold down bracket until I saw where it was on the video. I went from frustrated to fixed in less time then it took to watch the video. Thanks again!

    John Barnes

  • Big Help. Thank you for the video lesson.

  • thanks a million for posting this, id changed my battery before but i'd completely forgotten how to get the air intake housing out. i never would've remembered that it just takes a sharp tug!

  • well done! thanks!

  • Very easy to follow instructions. Cut the time to change the battery at least in half. Thanks.

  • Very useful info. Thanks a bunch.

  • Awesome, thanks so much. I was done in 15 minutes. Guy at auto zone said I gad to remove the front tire to get at it.

  • Thank you so much! This also works on the 2006 Cruiser, but there's another hose attached to the air filter box.

  • Great stuff.I couldn't even find the battery.I spent the previous day charging the battery with the jump prongs and not understanding why it was still flat!

  • Awesome baby!!! like Dickie V says. Dude, you saved my life and my vacation. My fiance and I were on our way out and had to move "The Crusier" and in a Chicago winter (high of 11F today) batteries go dead. After I watched your video, I was able to swap out the battery in "The Cruiser" in under 15 minutes. Thanks man.

    Doug

  • thank you thank you now know what the hell I'm doing

  • "first things first, with your flathead screwdriver, if youll come on in, we need to disengage this right here..." lol

  • hmm...my ptCruiser has batery placed under the passenger seat --so this video is not helpful for me

  • well he said he was sure that this is how you do it for most models, he doesn't say he KNOWS all models have the battery in the same spot..so pointing out that your battery isn't under the airbox, probably is just as helpful to him as him saying your battery is under your airbox to you

no useful information was transfered between you and him, good job :)

  • you are drivin' the CRD, right?

The CRDs (Dieselmotor by MB) has the battery under the passenger seat

  • Thanks! I didn't even know where the imagineers hid the battery on the little beast.

Autozone won't embarrasreplace the battery on one, but once you know how, it's easy.

  • thank you very much.you saved me

  • Wish I saw this sooner...got so frustrated that I actually changed the battery without removing the airfilter box. I jammed a pair of pliars between the battery and the box to form a gap so I could access the battery bracket nut with an extended socket wrench. Then I had to remove the rad hose to twist the battery out. Fluid went everywhere. To install the new one, used a peice of gum to hold the battery bracket aside and twisted the battery in. Did this in the dark with a head light. ouch

  • Very helpful video! Thanks for making this super easy.

  • TY, very good video so now I know how to get this done. I just got an 2001 Limited Edition model and I never thought changing a battery would be this much trouble but looks easy enough. LOL

    Thank you again........

  • This video is terrific!

I would have never thought to use that much force to pop the airbox out...

From there it was a breeze...

Thanks again! You saved my Saturday afternoon!

  • Thank you so mucH!! This is why i love the internet. I would never have figured this out by myself. I am not mechanically inclined AT ALL. but i watched your video a couple of times, went out there and did it in about 2 minutes. THANK YOU!!

  • Thanks It was a great video I will try it tomorrow I hope I will be able to put the black box in it seems you have to guess where to clip it since you can't see the bottom, Thanks again nice video

  • Hei mate, thanks for the video, really helpful.

But after replacing the battery, the radio wont work, the display just keeps saying "WAIT"....any idea what to do ?

    Thanks

  • Thank you so much! It was a life saver... can't believe people want to charge for installation.

  • Thank you!

  • Good vid but my 2006 has two tubes conected to the air filter box and the one on the driver side does not want to come of. Anyone know how to get it off?

  • Great video - thanks for the post! Just one suggestion: Clean the battery posts and cable connectors with an auto battery post and terminal cleaner before connecting the new battery.

  • In 2005 I replaced my wifes battery in a 2002 PT Cruiser. It was difficult, but Wal Mart had refused because of difficulty. Now again in 2009 Wal Mart refused because of difficulty. Again replacing the battery I was having difficulty. My wife came out and said she had found your video explaining replacement. I viewed it and PRESTO I pulled the air filter box and the battery replacement was easy. WOW! Thank You for your video. Dan Zurla.

  • Excellent! Helped me know just the right thing to do. Thanks for the clear tutorial.

  • thanks man nice video not stupid stuuf about how do it right just do it !!!

  • Nice Vid however don't look here if you own the 2.2 CRD. I found my battery underneath the N/S front passenger seat on my 2002 Diesel PT Cruiser.

  • Your instructions were Excellent! I was puzzled and concerned about the air filter box and didn't want to break anything and have to resort to Duct tape.... Reefed on the enclosure like you showed and "pop" the air filter box came out. THANKS!!!

  • Thank you! I just changed mine!

  • It's been said before, but you are my hero. Your video made changing the battery easy and clear. I am empowered. Would you like my first born? Thanks again.

  • Thanks man! I looked and couldn't figure out where the battery is. This really helps. Advance Auto balked at changing the battery in my wife's 2003 Buick Rendezvous, and they probably will on this one to. So if they won't change it, at least I know how to do it this time. It's a great help!

  • Thank you so much!

  • Thanks!!! You are my hero!!

  • IT's GOLD Jerry, GOLD........ I will take care of battery buisness in the morning. THANKS. That damm bolt holding down the battery............

  • Thanks a lot. I was about ready to take off the fender. OK, back to the car...

  • Ben, Thank you! Great video, I was looking in all the wrong place trying to figure why the battery wouldn't move. I love the PT, but man I could use some more space!

  • Thank you very much. I couldn't figure it out on my own, even though I'm somewhat mechanical. Well done instructional video!

  • Thank you for taking the time to do this. You may have saved the front end of my Cruiser. It's so simple now that I have seen you do it.

  • Thanks for the instruction !! I was stuck on how to remove the filter box and getting very fustrated... I'm going to finish the job right now

  • Thanks for the video. I am getting ready to change my battery.

A couple of additions. First, as that air intake hose gets older it will get harder to put back on. If you rub a little silicone lube in it the hose will slide back on a little easier and it won't rot the plastic/rubber like wd40 or some other petroleum based product will.

Also, you should take a wire brush to the terminals before reconnecting them. That spray corrosion protection works well after you clean them, too.

  • Great video! Word of advise, this is NOT as fun as it looks when it's -35 outside! Brrr! Oh! And don't forget to ensure that the top air filter casing is interlocked in the back when you put it back on. Agin, GREAT VIDEO! THANKS!!!

  • Thanks for the video. The hardest part was getting the air filter base out. It was no problem once I worked it back and forth.

The only change for a 2003 model is a hose from the air filter base for the PCV. This can be easily disconnected once you loosen the air filter case.

  • Just like a few guys below, Thanx, guy for showing how that damn air filter box came out. I never would have figured it out. Ever notice how many plastic parts on a Cruiser just snap together??? Scary!!!! JP

  • Dude, I can't thank you enough !! I'd still be out there trying to figure it out, but thanks to you and you detailed video, I was able to change my battery and spend time with my step-son working on car ... Priceless !!!

Thanks for taking the time to help us out. Good things will come your way for sharing this.

  • thank you for showing how to do this, it saved a lot of trouble and money

  • Thanks, this is very helpful!

  • thank you for posting this video!!

  • Thanks man , Without your video I had not been able to change the battery

  • Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to do this vid. I tried to change the battery in mine today and got stumped by the air box. Couldn't find where it was attached. This was very helpful and I thank you.

  • You Da MAN !

  • Excellent video and explanation. Very very helpful. Ten stars. thanx

  • I love you man! The proceedure went exactly like the video I was done in 10 minutes. I am a grandma not an auto mechanic, Thanks!

  • You are the man, I replaced the battery late night, can go to work tomorrow.

  • Brilliant! Thanks so much for posting. We would still be out there scratching our heads if it hadn't been for this clear video. Our 2002 PT was nearly the same, BTW. Don't forget: remove the negative lead first, and replace it last.

  • Thanks for posting . Without watching this vid I probably wouldn't have been brave enough to try this myself thus saving myself £45-00.

    Thanks again.

  • thanks, very helpful. Looks like you have replaced one of your terminal connections. When I tried to remove the battery, one of my snapped off. How did you replace yours?

  • Thanks. The connector on mine was replaced about a year ago by a mechanic. Because of corrosion, it actually snapped off while I was at a stoplight. The process looked simple, but because I've never done it, i'd hate to give you bad info. I'd recomend taking it to a pro, or Google searching a car-repair forum site.

  • Thanks for the video it helped. I couldnt for the life of me figure out how to unscrew the battery.
