Alex doesn't play for Japan anymore.

As for S.Korea, there doing alright. Basically they were the best team in Asia along with Iran and Saudi in the 80's,90's. Then from around the late 90's Japan joined that group, and in fact was the champion of Asia for a while. (about 4 years).

Now that Australia has joined the Asian football federation, the big 5 are Japan,Korea,Saudis,Iran and Australia. Coincidiently there are 5 spots for Asia so its predicted that these 5 will go through.

Saudis have always had a great team, at least at Asian standards. However, they had recently been on a major decline. I feel like after winning the Asian Cup in 2007, now they are back in the picture.

But either way, football in Asia is constantly evolving, you can't really talk about what happened 10,15 years ago. The players dramatically change.

Just look at Japan, they were shit in the late 80s, early 90s. 3 TIMES champion of Asia in the last 8,9 years alone... so yeah man, times change..
