@Otakina95 - Perhaps not where you are, but in Japan strawberries are grown locally in greenhouses & sold in grocery stores especially for Christmas i.e. winter. :)

@emmymadeinjapan there are strawberries grown in greenhouses in winter in my country too but remain as a typical summer fruit as grows naturally only in that season... for a Christmas cake I think it is appropriate to use seasonal fruit... at least in my country does so ^_^

@beefnoodle01 Probably Emmy-san answered to your comment, but, I can tell you Strawberries and some other fruits/vegitables are grown in the hot-houses so almost year-around you can buy therm throughout Japan. I have been in the US for a long time and always complained that strawberries in US wherever they grow are still sour....Strawberries in Japan became very sweet, and large, no need to sweeten. The growers work very hard to make them more tastier.
