I'm getting sick of people saying that the Helghast are the good guys. Yes, Vekta was initially theirs, but it had to be taken because they were overtaxing UCN ships and ruining Earth's economy. They then relocated to Helghan reuniting under a despotism and invaded the ISA controlled Vekta, killing thousands of innocent people.
The Helghast are not the "good guys." They are genocidal and xenophobic, and rarely leave any assets for their civilians. This evident as they nuked their own city.

The Helghast were only trying to reclaim their own world in KZ1 and were then defending their default homeworld against the ISA.

The Helghast aren't "good", but nor are the ISA.

I definantly think the ISA got too complacent. If you look at the intro to KZ2 you see a small amount of Helghast ships protecting the planet. In reality the Helghast, being a militant society would have to have a lot of space ships. And Visari did not plan on being a martyr. I'm getting sick of people saying that the Helghast are the good guys. Yes, Vekta was initially theirs, but it had to be taken because they were overtaxing UCN ships and ruining Earth's economy. They then relocated to Helghan reuniting under a despotism and invaded the ISA controlled Vekta, killing thousands of innocent people.
The Helghast are not the "good guys." They are genocidal and xenophobic, and rarely leave any assets for their civilians. This evident as they nuked their own city.

@ImTylerDurden99 I've not even played the game - it seems fairly clear that Leader Visari might not have the very best interests of his people or Earthgov (or it's equivalent) at heart.
Besides - if you're an kind of leader with starships - quite literally - the galaxy is your oyster - why settle for some marginal world, when you can - with time - find a far-flung homeworld to call your own - very very far from the meddling of Earth.

They are defending themselves from those who cast them away from their original home planet, Vekta. Though out of their own desperation for freedom, the Helghast turn to more drastic means of a possible victory.

Most of the things in Killzone 2 weren't explained, all you ever heard regarding Red Dust was, "What kind of sick fuck nukes his own city?" and the likeness of that. Maybe you should actually read a little about Killzone and the story before you go about the internet making yourself look like more of an idiot than you probably are.

@Ayleeum Yeah, the same logic as saying that the Germans were the good guys because they were defending their country from the allies in WWII.
And again, the ISA had a perfectly good reason to knock the Helghan colonists off Vekta. They overtaxed and blockaded Earth's ships and hampered their connections to other colonies. Since Earth (and presumably Mars) were on the brink of starvation and Vekta was not co-operating, the UCN invaded Vekta.

Vekta belonged to them and the ISA stole it over economic matters. Then when the soon to be Helghast got understandably upset about this the ISA kicked them off their homeworld and forced them onto a dry arid hellhole of a planet and then sat back and got rich while these people starved to death or died of lungrot. The Helghast were only trying to reclaim their own world in KZ1 and were then defending their default homeworld against the ISA.

@GFXer2010 Besides, the ISA lost any claim to being the "good guys" when their men initiated what is quite possibly near total racial genocide of the Helghast in the ending of KZ3, uber-nuking millions more women and children then the Helghast ever killed.
As for the other points, the Helghast are xenophobic because of their history with other Humans, the ones who stole their world and refused to help them when they were all dying from a toxic atmosphere.

They could not afford for their economy to slip into the negatives and they certainly could not afford to be cut off from their other colonies. So, if anything it probably was necessary.

@GFXer2010 Hmm, survival is indeed justifiable cause...for Earth. And yet there were "other colonies" that could provide...unless the Helgans were actually cutting them off from them. If anything, all that has transpired has been the consequence of that war. A war that Earth (ISA) initiated. They could have been more delicate in the aftermath of that first war. Scolar Visari is the result.
By the way, where did you get your Killzone history?

Not that the ISA is much better, sending thousands of their own to die in the open fields of Helghan without even using an orbital strike first. I'd still side with the Helghast.

We sanctioned the living hell out of their territory after WWI, before they rose again under Hitler and captured half of Europe. We then proceeded to bomb the living shit out of Germany, kill their military leaders and once again sanction the country.
Despite the crap that they went through, the Nazis were considered the bad guys. The Helghast are also the bad guys, because they were equally as autocratic.

1) The Helghast are just humans that have undergone changes to adapt to their environment. They ARE NOT a complete different species.
2) The destruction of their planet was only because Stahl (who is a Helghast) had a ship full of petriside that, when destroyed, envelopes the entire planet. The ISA were trying to stop the same thing from happening to Earth. As cool as the Helghast are, they got what was coming to them and Stalh's ignorance is all they have to blame.

No one has taught them what is right and wrong like the isa were the high school bullies to the high school nerds (helgaust). @GFXer2010 The Killzone 2 tagline was "War. Perfected." In war, there are no good guys or bad guys. The battlefield is stained with shades of gray. Draw some parallels between the Helghast and Nazi Germany, their real-world inspiration. They are left economically destitute due to foreign powers, and so they come to follow a singular patriarchal autocrat because of his charismatic determination and fanatical belief in the pride of his people. The Helghast aren't "good", but nor are the ISA.

I definantly think the ISA got too complacent. If you look at the intro to KZ2 you see a small amount of Helghast ships protecting the planet. In reality the Helghast, being a militant society would have to have a lot of space ships. And Visari did not plan on being a martyr. I love the way this game ended, and i think KZ3 is the famed Halo killer- I heard the latest Halo wasnt all that
