I'm genuinely not trying to be nasty or hurtful here because I think anyone who creates a piece of music, no matter the genre or level of skill involved, deserves credit. I know myself it's a difficult thing to do and to have your creations posted on the internet for people (depending what kind of person they are) to enjoy or scrutinize must take guts. But, is this really flat-picking? I love bluegrass and country music but I'm not sure that this is genuine country flat-
Well, technically speaking, yes. It's a rather rudimentary flat picking style commonly known as the Carter style, having been made popular by the Carter family. It's not as flashy as some of the more modern styles, but it's definitely flat picking. I'm using a flat pick exclusively, and I don't know what else you'd call it if it isn't flat picking. I'll grant you, it's a more roots country style rather than bluegrass, but they both sprang from the same roots. Thanks for the stars. :o)
@guitmartiman Like he said, if you know the history of American Popular Music, this is among the style of rhe ones that got it all started, As with anything through time others capitalized on the small beginning and naturally it evolved. Todays musicians have stretched the limits of music as far as it can. But the roots of Bluegrass is founded right here with this style, flat picking at it;s very root.....Research some of music's history and you can appreciate this more..
Oh right, cool. As I said Iove roots country and bluegrass, although I don't play it much. I shoulda done my homework!!! Haha!! Thanks for that, I'll check out that other guy you mentioned above now. Thanks again for clearing that up, I'll bump ya up to 5stars!! :)
for a rosewood guitar it sounds tinny. Larrivees are well made and set up nice. Your playing is nice sounding however, even if the guitar isn't really my style God Bless
Yeah, I didn't intend to keep this video up so long. I just made it to use on ebay when I was selling the guitar. I'm really rather surprised I've gotten so many positive comments. This video really doesn't do this guitar justice. It sounded much better in person. In person it sounded much darker and not tinny at all. I actually made a lot of mistakes while I was paying, and I even spliced it together at one point. In spite of this, it's my ninth most viewed video! Go figure...
Greetings Jack.I started flatpicking many years ago and thouroughly love it, especially gospel tunes.I listen to uor quite often.Thank you and "God Bless You"
I actually agree with you! This guitar sounded much better in person. The mic on my camera is obviously not studio quality. I'm actually rather mystified by how many views and positive comments I've received on this video. I intended to take it down after the guitar sold, but it's done so well, I just haven't had the heart to do it!
You responded to this negative post with much grace. I really enjoyed it and I think you play very well. Nobody. Well, almost nobody expects perfect sound quality on youtube. It's down home fun and very enjoyable. Thanks for all of the music. God bless you.
Yes, I do enjoy your student's playing. I had subscribed to both persons that you referred me to. Guitar players are always so serious looking when they play. My #2 son, Shane is like that when he plays! Mary
Glad you liked it! That does sound like fun...I have a few friends I play with from time to time, but it just seems like people are so busy these days they don't have time to do what's REALLY important.
I agree. I did vs the 2 persons whose vids you referred & 1 of your comments you mentioned "As The Deer..". That is my favorite, not counting "Holy, Holy,Holy". Could you play it some day? mary
Well, no more embarrassing than forgetting the words to a song I wrote and was in the middle of singing for church in front of a few hundred people which I've done a few times.
As RaptureMe2 so embarrassingly realized "flatpicking is with the little triangular do-hickey" as opposed to playing with your fingers as in fingerstyle. And I have one less guitar now as this one sold for $200 more than I needed to pay for my T5!
At the moment I own this Larrivee D09-B, a Taylor 810-B, a Taylor NS-54ce, a Taylor T-5, a Baby Taylor 305, a Tyler Banjitar, 2 Giannini Nylon string CraViolas (one with a solid Spruce top), a no name homemade classical, 2 Giannini student classicals, a Tangy Koa tenor ukulele, and an Antoniotsai Koa soprano Ukulele. I think that adds up to 12 if you count the ukuleles. I don't think you've seen my T5 yet...but stay tuned...
No, actually, my guitars occupy several rooms at my house! My goal is at some point to settle down to about 5 or 6 guitars which would include 1 electric (T5), 1 flattop (810-B), 1 nylon (NS-54ce), 1 travel guitar (305), 1 banjitar (Tyler), and a 12-string (I've had several, but not yet the one I'm looking for). Oh yeah, and I'll keep my tenor uke too and maybe a dulcimer if I can find one I like.
Just out of curiosity, how many do you own? That sounded excellent by the way, as did your former student who I just listened to. Have a great Sunday!
Hi Andy! See my reply to sguitar, below about how many guitars I have. I had a good day yesterday. It may interest you to know that it was my birthday! BTW, the Larrivee sold last night for $2,226.00! About $200 more than I needed to pay for the T5!
That is outstanding news!! I'm tickled for you. I look forward to seeing and hearing it, and happy belated birthday! 29 now (someone wrote below)? That's what I am! LOL Take care!
Thanks Sarah! I appreciate your kind affirmation! I probably would never have uploaded this if I were not trying to sell this guitar. I actually really love this guitar, but I can't afford to keep all the guitars I own at the moment. Stay tuned I'll be doing one on my new T5 soon!
Nice job.
