  • How do i get oxygen in the tank?o.o (I have a small one)

  • @DogStyle1234 The first thing is to shake up the bottle of water for 5 minutes before pouring it into the tank.

You can also use something called a "airstone." Basically it's a small pump connected by a air tube to a stone with lots of holes in it. You put the stone into your tank and it shoots little bubbles into tank. You can find them at walmart or petsmart, etc.

  • Hey i have tried to hatch these things quite a few times and i have used multiple different packets (they are from hobby lobby). I use nestle pure life water and keep the water temp at 75 degrees but they never hatch. can you please help me?

  • @MrGiggity365 The only thing I can think of is try using distilled water...possibly the pure life water has some mineral content in it. If they still don't hatch I would contact the company and tell them your eggs didn't hatch and you followed the directions completely...they should send you a replacement.

Maybe try only half the package with the distilled water to see if they hatch???

  • ok my 100 watt and 60 watts are over heating like getting hot and im scared it will start a fire and i have a strip thermometer should i put that in the water or something k

  • @PokemonWhito use the 60 watt, 100 is too much. put the strip thermometer into the water otherwise you'll get a wrong reading cause the lamp is hot. just make extra sure your lamp isn't going to tip over or anything. IF THE WATER IS at least 74 in the daytime then you can turn it off during the day!!!

  • i bought a smithsonian triop kit a couple of day ago but they arent hatching and i dont know why

  • @pacosw1 Yeah I know the kit you are talking about. Do you have a lamp above it for heat?

No matter what don't throw anything away yet, you can always dry the sand and eggs and try re-hatching again. Let me know your situation now.

  • Can you microwave the water in the bowl?

  • @zac0964 You need to keep the water warm so microwaving it isn't a good idea since it will just cool down after.

  • How long do triops usually live? And are there other kinds that like longer?

I got a Smithsonian grow-your-own triops kit. My cousin got it before me and said they died after about a month.

Is there anything I can do to make sure they live their longest?

  • @KiptayIsFluffy 1-2 months, it depends on a lot of conditions. I personally think that the bigger the water tank you have them in the longer and larger they grow. Also I heard of a few experiments where people put bubblers (they are for fish tanks, you can get a cheapo one that works plus a airstone for like 5-10 bucks i think) in the tanks and supposedly the extra oxygen helps them a lot.

With that Smithsonian kit I HIGHLY recommend you try and get a bigger tank!

  • @KiptayIsFluffy PS 10 gallon tank is 13 bucks at walmart.

  • cool vids keep it up and p.s. k and what are some things u need after there like growing what do u recommend using for them and how much would this material cost k

  • @PokemonWhito

    3-10 gallon tank = $8-15.00

distilled water for hatching = $1.00

some sand or gravel (if you want to keep the eggs that your triops lay) = $5.00

    fish food = $4.00

those are the basics, some people use filters and heaters but those are optional.

  • @triopsguys i cant find a tank for a ten gallon for 8-15 could you give me a link to a site or a store

  • @PokemonWhito I buy 10 gallon tanks at walmart for $13 bucks or so, go to the fish section.

  • Do you always keep the lamp under the tank

  • @asdfghjkl91198 the lamp is for heat, if you can keep it the right temperature without the lamp then you don't need it. (for example if your house is warm all the time or you have a water heater).

  • Very nice little vid. A lot of people seem to have trouble hatching triops despite that fact that compared to fairy shrimp (and the popular brine shrimp) are usually much more condition-specific. Another tip, for individuals who have trouble hatching them, is to store the sand (containing the eggs) in the freezer over night before hydration. This tricks them into believing they endured winter and increases the hatch rate by a fairly large margin.

  • @SlimTwisted Good tip about the freezing them over night!

  • is it ok if i use the floresnt bulb

  • @jacob12marcelo as long as you can get the right temperature with it.

  • i dont know why but this reminds me of spore

  • can i stick the tempurature strip in the tank. will it work if i do that and can u tell me if u cna use a 30 watt bulb???

  • @unimer1

The temperature strip should work if you put it completely in the water. you can use a 30 watt bulb as long as it heats up the water to the right temperature.

  • lol 40 walt is hard to find most of the time bud but get vid

aND HOW LONG CAN THEY NOT BE HATCHED

  • @magicsteve14 if they don't hatch in a week I dry the eggs out again and then try again.

  • can we use aquafina instead of distilled water

  • heyy hi hello. i was wondering...where can i get a triop?

  • @MsKaylee100 you can buy eggs online on ebay, or check toy stores for kits.

  • @triopsguys

    Like Walmart

  • @MsKaylee100 you can get it at the amazon.com and scholastics and loonie or pet stores.

  • on my trips pack, it says not to use distilled water, and it said that you dont put mroe then oen liter of water. is that true?

  • @BeyCuber not sure, maybe for your species of triops you don't need distilled water. I always try to use distilled water.

  • When my Triops got older they ( died at seven days) they still only ate the detritus. is there a reason they avoided the crushed pellets?why did they only eat detritus?

  • @tkxdi ouch sorry to hear that. I notice sometimes my triops avoid certain brands of pellets...I try to have at least 2 different types to feed them with. Dried crackers work well for young triops too. triopsguys . com has a feeding guide for next time you can refer to.

  • Nice tutorial. Still, I normally hatch Triops eggs using a simpler method. I found that tap water from my area works well, no need for distilled or mineral water. I just put some sand, dried eggs and some detritus (crushed leaves that were soaked in aquarium water and dried) in a PET bottle with the top cut off. I let this bottle float in the aquarium for the adult triops. The temperature of the aquarium is always around 24 deg C or higher, and has timed lighting. Never had problems hatching...

  • Once they get too 2 weeks of age, how do you move them to a bigger tank?

  • @cutedragons i just use a spoon or a cup to transfer them. only move one first, then wait 24 hours to see if he survives. check the water guide out on triopsguys. com website if you don't know what kind of water to use.

  • when my triops are bigger can i make a video response to show how they are doing??

  • @coleb002 yeah go ahead!

  • do you use the lamp for the triops whole lives or just for hatching them?

  • @coleb002 if you can keep the water temperature at the correct temperature then you don't need the lamp. in other words if you use a water heater, otherwise you still need the lamp for heating.

  • @coleb002 do you know what triops you have??

  • Thanks iv woke up in the morning and found lots of baby triops!!! great vid!

  • can you show a good transferring method?

  • once the water is at the right tempriture can u put the eggs in on the same day or do u have to wait a day

  • @MrGman0909 opps sorry for the late reply :(. you can put the eggs in whenever, and also try freezing the eggs first.

  • dont u have to purify the water first like the sae monkeys

  • @MrGman0909 yeah thats why i mentioned using distilled water only. you can try purified water too, but you still might get trace amounts of mineral content which the baby triops are sensitive to.

  • ANOTHER QUESTION!!!!

do i have to put the old gravel/pond stuff that came in the kit for "conditioner" that i used to hatch the triops into the new big tank when im transfering them??????????

  • @soccercat1 I usually don't cause its kind of dirty by then. remember only transfer one triops first to the big tank and see if it lives for 24 hours before transferring the rest to make sure your water is ok.

  • i bougth the star wars kit and the eggs are from longicadatus and all the stuff that came in is just floting around so is the same steps for any kind of triops? please respond

  • @HowToDoTutorials100 yeah same steps, you'll probably need a bigger container though then what your kit came with for later...unless you like changing water all the time.

  • @soccercat1 i don't cause its usually kind of dirty at that point. after you get the second tank setup just transfer ONE triops....see if it lives for a day first...then it's probably safe to transfer the other ones.

  • heater mat: there are different kinds of these mats. some for aquarium, some for plants. you better google it, which kind is best for you. I used one suitable for plants and aquaruim.

  • @Macrotodon nice thanks for the tip.

  • I had a question!!?? can i use "playground sand" for the bottom of my triop tank?

i would wash the sand through water. is this how u get the clay out?

  • @soccercat1 yeah you can but expect to wash it for like 15-20 minutes to get most of the clay out.

  • @triopsguys if you go to the triopsguys website there is a post called "Triop Tank Setup for T. Australiensis" that talks a lot about different sand options and preparation. link in sidebar.

  • @triopsguys Can you make some more vids on triops cause you only have two.

  • @CommenterBeta working on it haha.

  • hey could u make a video on how to hatch 2nd generation eggs? like how to dry the eggs and so on?.....that would be really helpful to us "new triops people" :-)

  • @soccercat1 working on it! actually i have to wait till i finish a generation of triops to make the video properly....but basically here is what i do....

    1. scoop out as much water as you can from the tank.

    2. take out any ornaments or plants, etc.

    3. let the sand dry out completely, like bone dry.

after that you can store the sand and try hatching from it. google "triops detritus" for how to make the baby triops food.

  • I prefer a heater mat, it`s seems easier to handle and if you just use 1/3 of the sand you split the risk of loosing all . And the later born are not eaten by the early ones.

  • @Macrotodon what kind of heating mat do you use? the kind for plants?

  • ya my house is usualy bout 65 degrese cause my dads cheap so will they still hach

  • probably not, you need a lamp or something. you should check and see if the top of your fridge is warm cause that might work.

  • Thanks dude :)

  • can i keep them in my window still to get warm throughout the day?my temperature is 65 degees....im thinking the sun will warm them up.

  • @soccercat1 hey did you end up trying this? as long as your room doesn't get too cold at night....

  • epbpyro9 Triops cancriformis can make

    it with 65 farenheit

  • good point. cancriformis is a good choice if you can't do any artificial heating.

  • After they hatch will they do well in lower temperatures? nice video by the way

  • yeah they are much less sensitive after about a week or so. in GENERAL 72 - 86F is good, you might want to do some research on your particular species first though. i keep my water at 80-86.

  • I have a question. I need to have a temp of 75 degrees, but i cant change the temp in my house, so...Is there any other way to get the right temp?

  • I use a lamp, I'm not sure if you wanted the temp higher or lower though...

  • By the way the reason I'm shaking the water before pouring is to mix oxygen into the water as much as possible.
