So i followed to instruction from this video but now now mater what rom i run it always starts up with the i9000 screen. Any idea on how to fix this because even flashing stock doesn't get rid of it
You discredited your jig in your own video... you hold 2 buttons for Downloading mode correct? You have a jig for that. You hold 2 buttons for Recovery mode correct? You DON'T have a jig for that. So by your own words/video, the DL jig is a waste of money. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I just want to say thanks man! I had to restart my Captivate after I bricked it from a bad ROM and I just fixed it with this! Onto Cyanogenmod!! Imma buy a JIG now
Great vid. I just ordered a JIG! :) Quick question - if I wanted to just run stock Gingerbread, would I just stop after flashing the kernel? The point just before you went into Recovery and flashed Mosaic?
OK, so I flashed back to stock 2.1, downloaded all the bootloaders, kernels, and the Odin you recommended. I was all set up to put the bootloader on the phone with Odin. I had the phone in download mode, had the PDA option filled with the bootloader and when I hit start it ran for a second or two then popped up that it failed. My phone then shut off and when I tried to restart it, I got the Phone-!-Computer icon. I have tried EVERYTHING to get it back into download mode but it won't work. HELP!!
Hmmm love the vids subscriber follower and liker on Facebook haha, well quick question I followed the steps until the second download mode and installed voodoo tar for my apex rom and when I boot my phone up it says gt-i9000 then sgh-i897 should I be concerned with this? =)=
i am at the where i am in recovery mode and u are aying go to mount usb to drag the rom which is a zip file in . which rom do i use or is it in the links, cause im confused. also i dont have the mosiac 2 option, maybe its because i havent put the rom. so can someone show me where the rom is. anyone can answer. ty
@xaad86 I don't mean to call you out but this process works 100% with Mosaic 2 and nothing in this process would have caused a death other than a failed ODIN flash. Did you perhaps flash 3 button fix? That would brick it.
@xaad86 You should not have flashed 3 button fix after flashing GB bootloaders. It doesn't say that anywhere in this video. If that's what happened, you are hard bricked but I can still fix that. Just check out my i897 JTAG video.
How long should it take to load back up after installing the rom, ive tried a few times and waited 30 mins + and it just keeps looping the start up screen?
Im trying to flash the latest Talon 0.3.1 kernel, but it has a .zip only in XDA, but not a .tar. How can I flash 0.3.1 using Odin ? Appreciate your video
All day today I have been fucking around with my phone following instructions on XDA but everyone there expects people to be masters at this shit. But you sir are much more clearer and helped me so much Thank You! (after 7 bricks in a row)
I was wondering if you could do a quick tutorial on how to properly change the i9000 bootloaders to the new ATT i897 bootloaders. And will these bootloaders work with any gingerbread rom found on XDA?
okay so i tried installing mosaic IV with talons kernel because i didnt realize you had to use xcal's. and then i flashed xcals using odin 1.82 and couldnt get into recovery. so i went back to talon to flash a different rom. and i realized i had to mount my phone to get the other rom (serendipity 7) onto my phone. so i went to mount my phone in recovery but it didnt work so i flashed to stock and mounted it and got the file onto it that way. but now Odin fails when i try flashing the bootloaders
@V4Ventura For a text guide, I'd recommend following whatever instructions are in your developer's ROM thread. Many describe different methods depending on the ROM you choose. This method has been proven to work with all the true GB ROM's an only doesn't work with CM7 and MiUi...
okay so i already used odin to put the bootloaders and kernel on my phone and i didnt yet have the rom on it...so now i did the mount sd card thing you did but my computer says that i dont have the drivers for my phone installed which i do and it tried to automatically install the new ones but it didnt and i dont know what to do from here now
I do not know what my problem is.. I have all the drivers installed. I have tried multiple methods, but I cannot get my phone into download mode from the stock rom. I can from paragon RC6 because it has the option in the power menu. Is is safe just to flash from there? Or is it a lot safer to figure out how do do it from stock?
I had a question Josh, after flashing the bootloaders and kernel, will the phone already have clockwordmod installed or will that need to be installed (previously) so that you can enter recovery mode and flash the rom?
@MobileTechVideos Another quick question, when you're back to stock JF6, do you need to root the phone again like the previous flashing method? Or do you just flash the bootloaders, kernel and then ROM?
@MobileTechVideos This was so simple to do! Way easier than flashing the 2.2 ROMs! I also added one of the custom bootscreens. Your videos are simple, great and make flashing so easy. Keep up the great work!
Wow, THANK YOU for this video. i just finished installing continumm and after watching this for the SECOND time. i was actually able to finish this task in less 5 minutes u guys make it so SIMPLER, Again THANKS to mobiletechvideos and BTW almost convinced to buy the JIG.

oh nice, turns out my drivers were somehow deleted, im guessing since i had the drivers well before i rooted it, or maybe i updated it on a seperate pc...
after the bootloaders my pc has no connection with my phone, i can get it into the download mode with volume -/power but odin does not recognize it, out of odin my pc doesnt even aknowledge it... any help would be much appreciated
Can i use rom manager to go to recovery mode and flash from there as in Foroyo2.2.Actually botton method is not working and also i am using jig to go to download mode
I looked at all the comments and could not find an answer. Does this method also applies to Mosaic III? I read that XDA thread and it seems that it requires a different kernel. Just checking.
@tradukilor2 Yes this works with Mosaic III. So far I have found it doesn't work well with DARKY'S V10, MIUI AND CM7. GR-12, Continuum, Mosaic III and Perception are perfect using this.
the jigs are an awesome buy he sends them out fast and I can also say it works great, its a wonderful to have for peace of mind, these videos are great for people that are new to mod'ing
@MrMurder96 Any developer will tell you JF6 is the primary ROM to start your MOD from. It's just part of the Captivate world. 2E recovery is critical in most cases to installing ROMs and clock work mod due to it's lack of signature verification checks in .zip files. You CAN flash from 3E recovery but if your going to revert just for part of a MOD it makes no difference which one you revert to anyhow.
Always very informative. That's a few steps faster than the other ways.
I can't believe people still complain about other people selling stuff. Josh's tutorials have helped thousands of people. If you don't like it don't watch his videos.
I have one of his jigs and it works great. I plan on getting a S2 when it comes out and hope josh supports that device as well.
Sorry Josh, not getting an Atrix but am very glad you are continuing to support the Captivate.
Before I flash a new ROM, I really want to root my Captivate. However, I'm on Android 2.2, and when I select "Reinstall packages" during the rooting process, it says "E: Signaure Verification Failed" and I can't root it :/
You can avoid the second battery pull by unchecking the "auto reboot" box in odin when you flash the kernel. Just hold vol up + pwr after the kernel is flashed to get into CWM. Just like cm7 instructions.
The amount of time he talks about the damn USB jig is rather annoying. Shut it and just get to the point of the video, the How To. Not trying to sell your products, do that in a separate video.
@mbuddenn Congrats on making my block list here on YouTube. If you understood how often I got asked on where to get these JIGS as well as many other things, you would understand the importance of continually reminding people as many are seeing this video for the first time and have no idea who I am. I'm sure you don't understand why commercials still exist on TV as well? I saw an AT&T commercial 3 years ago wtf! AT&T "shut it"!!! Give me a break man. That is not how it works! THUMBS UP ANYONE?
@MobileTechVideos spent days in "SOFT BRICK" because the button method would not get me to DL mode. Waited by the mailbox each day...The Jig works immediately. Later had a no power bricking. The JIG pulled me out of it. ... My point? I glad I learned of the JIG, by whatever means information can be shared..including MTV self promotion.
hey i used the one click lag fix app and i try to undo it and it bricked my phone my phone just stayed on the S screen and vibrated like a force close error i used odin and eventually got my phone back to 2.2 froyo but now my phone cant go into recovery mode and vibrates when booting upon the s screen but it lodes up and every thing is good but can i do something to be able to get back into recovery mode with volume up+down and power
