You just have no idea how much the modern UK profit from the EU and why it couldn't leave it without great losses.

The UK is no more a self-sufficient empire, nor is France, nor is any eu. country.

To survive as an economic, political and cultural power, the EU is the way to go.

The actual problem is that a lot of clueless people, like you, just end up shouting "Down with the EU!!§!", rather than trying to build it and improve it (because it's far from being perfect, indeed).
