damn. This makes me imagine i'm in a greek pantheon with socrates and cliff burton busts in and shreds socrates to death until he's dust in the wind. Yep, i'd say this is pretty epic
That's GOOD! Not just cuz it's Metallica, or C. L. Burton, no, it's good coz you put a heart in it! And some reverb, too (yum-yum)... now go and get some distortion and a wah-wah, then come back and play it again, Sam!
you tell us to stay metal, but its you thats not metal. how metal is playing a solo--made to be played on bass--on a cello? not very. Id say Kiss is more metal than your version of (anesthesia)--pulling teeth. Kiss isnt at all metal and Metallica is way better than them, but they're more metal than your version of your song
Metal and classical are very closely related if you look at the make up of each; both have similar chord progressions and are very mathematical. With that in mind playing a metal bass solo on a classical instrument makes sense. It's like all those bands that make rock versions of classical songs by artists like Beethoven.
Kiss is one of the first metal bands so you really can't say they aren't metal. Metallica on the other hand can actually be defined as a sub-genre of metal; thrash. So technically speaking Kiss is actually more metal then Metallica. Metallica just plays better music in my opinion.
Sorry SDau for such a long comment but I just had to say that. I really don't like all of the loosely thrown insults that occur so frequently over the web. Personally I love the fact that you arrange metal songs on the cello and I actually want to learn to play the cello so I can do the same thing. Anyways if you use any messengers or anything I'd love to talk sometime. Maybe you could give me a few pointers.
no, cuz at the top row its, original hardrock, shockrock, power metal, and punk. everything below that was influenced by that stuff. for example, pop metal was influenced by orig. hard rock and shock rock, and thrash metal was influenced by NWOBHM and punk. So they're not sub-genres of metal, they just helped influence it, but they're still rock and not metal
I really don't want to argue about that. My point was you shouldn't go and start insulting or counterdicting what someone says specially if it really doesn't even matter. ie when he said stay metal.
I think you made a mistake on the tabs. Since I play double bass I don't know. On the A note in the written music you put an open g on the tab. I might of made a mistake, but if you did make a mistake I just wanted to point it out.
Just the low string, but, the A,D,G strings are the same and you made the mistake where to put an open G but on the manuscript you put an A. Cello and Bass are both In Bass Clef anyway. Cello was called "Bass" before the Upright came out.
Considering you have only been playing for a short time, this is really great. Granted, there are some intonation and bowing issues that could have made this better...because you are playing metal, I might suggest that you try peppered hair and bass rosin. That will give you a much more..."metal-esque" sound. Of course, if you play classical too, you might not want to do that unless you have two bows...keep up the good work. You will, I'm sure, be a credit to metal-cellists everywhere.
I might suggest that you don't get a wood bow if you want to have a bow for metal only. I only say this because if you start getting really into the music you could potentially thrash the bow. This would be very bad if you invested in a really nice wood bow...I have a composite bow for metal and it suits me just fine...and really cheap too.
no cliff wouldnt have cliff was awesome at bass. he woudl think the cello is desgracing the instrument that lead to his death. but it is coverd nicely
I liked the first one better the transition from piccicato(you know, picking. My latin is terrible) To bowing was a killer touch in my eye and very original. Puts two moods in the piece. Again very nice.
What kind of cello do you play, bro?

no, go watch "metal: a headbangers journey" on vh1. Kiss is "shock rock" not metal
