The Soviets were asshole at that time, the USAF, which was recently young and indepedent, flown so many goods to the German people a lot. Yet after all these years, Germany resented us. Pathetic.
Those who ruled East Germany were anticommunists just like those in the west. Yes, the biggest anticommunists you could find in the ''Socialist'' Unity Party of Germany. Those Stalinist pigs were under the complete control of the Kremlin and its nomenklatura. Stalinism has nothing to do with Communism. But West Germany was not better. Right-wing German leader; Konrad Adenauer left many Nazi's in high ranking positions. He was authoritarian and jailed many anti-capitalist Germans.
Never forget, it were the americans who realized first that the post war germans are just ordinary people and not a nation of cold blooded mass murderers. They trusted us and helped us to get back on the track again like no one else. German people cheered to american troops as if they were rock stars. This picture of americans took part in the self conception of post war germany, and it gave us the strength to become one of most progressive countries in the world. Thank you, America!

They finished it too. The US stopped flying goods in in May 1949 when the blockade was lifted, but the RAF continued until October 1949 (to make it clear to Stalin that they could and would keep going through another winter if necessary). Last sortie was on 6 October 1949 in a Handley Page Hastings flown by a Flt Lt Harper.
War of 1812 (defeated the British, again) - U.S. victory in 1815 - 194 years ago
Mexican American war - U.S. victory - 1848 - 161 years ago
Spanish American war - U.S. victory - 1898 - 111 years ago
In World War II the U.S. defeated the Japanese virtually single handedly. the contribution of other allied forces was negligible. Every major battle for the Pacific was won by the U.S. Navy, Marines and Army Air Corp.
Would argue about the outcome of the war of 12 but doesn't matter. Overall quality of life is better in 3/4 of those defeated countries than it is in the us.
Anyway as long as you're so proud of your countries military achievements you should add the genocide in the Philippines to that list.
Hm. Conveniently forgetting, of course, that 70 percent of Japanese ground forces were stuck occupying China. Not saying we won the war for ya, but you might want to reconsider the "negligible" contribution of other allied forces.
I love these Americans who boast about wars - especially wars against the UK. It's a wonderful thing to identify with your new home country, but in reality most of these braggarts' families hadn't even arrived in the US when the conflicts took place. By contrast a high percentage of Brits can - like me - trace ancestry on both sides of both the Wars of Independence and of 1812.
Coming from San Diego, Crimble should check where his forebears were in the Spanish- and Mexican-American Wars.
Many more would have died for no better reason than their race, religion or politics if the RAF had lost the Battle of Britain and the UK had fallen. And launching D-Day from New York would have been much harder. Wake up.

I don´t get it. In 45-48, Uncle Sam and his buddies almost starved Germany to death and suddenly they brought Europe to the brink of a new world war just to avoid a political debacle. Truth is even then Uncle Sam didn´t give a rat´s ass to german´s malnutrition. Just stupid. That´s why this world under Uncle Sam management is so fucked up.
Americans don´t have brains, they never did. The greatest military power of all time. What for? To loose 2 wars in a row against 3rd world countries?
first off, america saved the allies in both WWI & WWII with our production
second, the berlin airlift was to help all of the civilians the Soviet Union was starving so they would turn communist
third, we won the korean war, the vietnam war wasn't a war but a military defensive action as it was never approved by congress, we won the gulf war and the current war in iraq isn't over yet
First off WW1 America didnt save anyone they helped out to hold Paris thats it it was a British General that was in Charge and it was mainly Britain France Australia in WW1 NOT America,2nd off the Berin aiflift was a British idea third off Britain was in the Korean war WITH America yet you seem to forget that and all we got was an un-easy cease fire which is still in place until today,Vietnam America ddint declare war when it was clearly a war and America LOST,First Gulf war was NOT just America
No, you didn't win the Korean war. You COULD have, if all restrictions applied to MacArthur was removed, but it wasn't. Hence the 38th Parallel. Vietnam was a direct result of American unwillingness to help Ho Chih Minh overthrow a foreign COLONIAL power (France). It was by no means defensive, and it sure as hell was a war to the G.I.s that died there.
Actually that was the Soviet Union - Russia which reconstructed the Eastern Germany even in spite of the after war misery in its own cities... and even in spite of more than 25 millions of soviet people killed and tortured by the germans. At the same time I haven't heard of the americans reconstructing Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We, russians, suffered from communism much more than the western ppl but as a nation we never left the miserable
There's no reason to justify turning millions of innocent lives into detainees of a system just because they were living there when the WWII ended and the Red Army was occupying the zone. Children that weren't even born in 1945 were already starving "thanks to the blockade" in 1948. You had to erect the wall in order to stop the fleeing ones, not many wanted to live under Stalin dictatorship. Years later, we had to wait for Gorbachov to know the truth.
You implemented the word "you" meaning that "we" erected the wall to "stop the fleeing ones". But again I must repeat that "we" suffered from all those blockades much more than the western ppl. You think many russians loved Stalin?! Talking about Gorbachev it's necessary to mention that thanks to him (and to all russians he represented as a leader) Germany was united and the damn wall was broken (without any reparations from the german side). In spite of the post-war feelings (>25 millions dead)

Fuck you idiot. Get your facts straight. In 45-48 all Germany starved because Uncle Sam wanted to. They forbid foreign NGOs to help german people, they starved germans with 1000 calories a day while the fucking fat GIs had a 3000-4000 cal intake. God Bless America.
I don't think it was the idea of the people of Russia. It was the government. The civilians didn't have a choice whether to support their government or not while living under its control. They had no freedom, especially during a war.
That's a pathetic sentiment--an insult to Germany as our ally, to the US servicemen who served in WW2 (like my dad) or who fought communism everywhere from Korea to Vietnam. Just to give you the privilege to spout your asinine opinions on the internet. They fought in a war. What'd you do bozo? Not that i condone or support the view that america is a great evil i do think that a sizable portion of the world thinks america is imperialistic. While germany was greatful for the lift and the aid they receved after the war, realize that america did cause a great deal of the destruction the aid went to fix. That being said the US did stop the communists for which credit is due. Most europe people im sure are happy for the contributions of the US but are unhappy about the US war in iraq
The Uk and Us has done a very good job hmm im angry that germany do nothing what is good for the world oh and so the people must think germans are unhelpfully people...=(
The Americans called this "Operation Vittles" and at 9:45 you see a sample of "Operation little vittles" where pilots dropped candy for the kids. This was the brainchild of 1st Lt. Gail S. Halvorsen USAF. Thanks Gail.
If this happened today - the Media would report that England and the U.S are victimising the Soviets and provocking them - not the mention the exstensive use of Fuel polluting the enviroment...But hey..thankfully we have GOOD reminders that the media is wrong when they say the UK and US have done no good in the world...

Only something as low as a Commie would deny shelter, water, food, and personal liberty to a populace.
There is no real difference between a Commie and a Zionist, as they are known to do exactly the same!
There were two reasons that the Berlin Airlift came into being:
(1) A Communist is an inhuman beast.
(2) FDR pulled us into WW II in order to aid his Comrade Stalin in the Communist Conquest of Europe.

And today the USAF and RAF are engaged in armed robbery in Iraq, thanks to appalling government in both countries. What a disgrace, and what an insult to the great pilots of the turbo-prop era.

And yet the Germans look at the USA as an evil empire today, yet we alone saved there assess from soviet expansion, and rebuilt there country,if americans stopped buying BMW's, and Mercedes Germany would be bancrupt tommorow, we Yanks see France and Germany this way, those whose assess we saved in WW2 and those whose assess we kicked, thanks for posting, we still have a few friends in the world...

The Americans called this "Operation Vittles" and at 9:45 you see a sample of "Operation little vittles" where pilots dropped candy for the kids. This was the brainchild of 1st Lt. Gail S. Halvorsen USAF. Thanks Gail.

Think of the logistics behind all this, must have been an immense task! Good job!

If this happened today - the Media would report that England and the U.S are victimising the Soviets and provocking them - not the mention the exstensive use of Fuel polluting the enviroment...But hey..thankfully we have GOOD reminders that the media is wrong when they say the UK and US have done no good in the world...
