The one way to get gas to go Down is if folks stop driving to places they don't really need to like malls movies golfing. If we all would drive to where we really need to work food store the oil company would feel the loss of gas assumption and they will lower gas prices. The average fuel efficiency of the US vehicle fleet has risen by just 3 miles per gallon since the days of the Ford Model T, and has barely shifted at all since 1991( from New Scientist). So ditch the V8 and buy a Toyota Hilux.

For starters, from an article on CNN Money that I read by Steve Hargreaves called "Drill Baby, Drill," opening our own oil reserves wouldn't even do much to reduce gas prices. In fact, it would be almost no effect to the gas prices considering that gas prices are regulated by the world market, and the amount of oil that we drill is tiny in comparison to the amount used by the world. So, opening an oil reserve would do little for gas prices.

This is how I pay only 50 cents a gallon . I don't shop at major department stores and buy things i don't need because i would see it on TV. Anyway I don't watch any TV news, sports, any sitcom past 1970, or any evil movies made recently for some reason are blue grayish in color. I'm no environmentalist, but drilling out in the Atlantic is VERY dangerous because of the Gulf Stream currents. There's plenty of oil up in the Montana-Canada border area, in Alaska, and, I'm absolutely positive here, thousands of other places on land and in gulfs.

That's lowering the prices of gas for two years...and then what? It becomes scarce again and the prices go up. The one way to get gas to go Down is if folks stop driving to places they don't really need to like malls movies golfing. If we all would drive to where we really need to work food store the oil company would feel the loss of gas assumption and they will lower gas prices. What, you think I can haul my ladders and equipment in a fucking prius, you idiots. A huge percentage of American workers use there pick ups for work. Plus some of us need 4 wheel drive because we don't live in Sunny California. We have snow. Why is it ok for every fucking country in the world to drill but us? Liberals can't answer that. @ddepue So you are saying it is impossible for anyone in the US to reduce their gasoline usage. A lot of other countries in the world have snow but do not drive around in 6 litre V8's then complain about the price of gasoline. eg Highly industrialised Germany is much colder than US and has much more high performance cars, and uses less than half the gasoline of US. It is attitudes like yours that will consign our future generations to poverty.

I just said that some of us "have to" drive a pick-up because of there jobs. And it is getting very expensive to go to work. Yeah a lot of other countries have snow, but are they putting ladder racks and tool boxes on to Prius's and Golf''s? I don't think so. So how do you think the food gets to your all natural grocery store? FREIGHT. TRUCKS.

@ddepue I couldn't care less if you develop your own oil resources. I certainly don't hate the US as you assert,but it pisses me off that you are just 5% of the world population using 30% of the oil and make no effort to improve efficiency. The average fuel efficiency of the US vehicle fleet has risen by just 3 miles per gallon since the days of the Ford Model T, and has barely shifted at all since 1991( from New Scientist). So ditch the V8 and buy a Toyota Hilux.

@ddepue I agree with alcraig on this one. For starters, from an article on CNN Money that I read by Steve Hargreaves called "Drill Baby, Drill," opening our own oil reserves wouldn't even do much to reduce gas prices. In fact, it would be almost no effect to the gas prices considering that gas prices are regulated by the world market, and the amount of oil that we drill is tiny in comparison to the amount used by the world. So, opening an oil reserve would do little for gas prices.

By investing in greener energy, it would not only aid significantly to our short-term problem of oil prices, but it would also aid us in the long run about our dependency on foreign oil and energy for the entire population without harm to the environment. You forgot the 4 way Newt. USA consumes more oil than China, Japan, Germany, Russia, and India combined, that is 5% of the worlds population using 30% of the oil. How about promoting the idea of using it more efficiently. Newt knows full well that producing hydrogen is not economically viable. He blames the speculators but you will notice their is no mention of the oil companies that are making record profits. He is a fraud.

@alcraig Did you know that our govt. makes more on oil than the oil companies? See how much profit oil companies make per gallon and how much our govt. makes taxing each gallon. If the oil companies are bad guys because they make a profit, our govt. are the real scam artists. Also, I would have to say that he pointed out alternative fuels are a process. It doesn't just happen over night. That's why he explains nuclear energy could eventually build a hydrogen alternative.

@PatriotTK421 The rules of supply and demand dictate that oil prices will continue to rise. The critical issue is energy security. Any politician who talks about temporarily reducing the cost of energy i.e. releasing the US oil reserve is just trying to buy votes and providing temporary refief is not addressing the real issue of energy security. Promoting hydrogen as an alternative is way beyond our current technology and is equivalent to doing nothing. Check it out yourself,

there is 1 action we can take to make gas prices go down overnight. we need to exempt gas stations from anti-trust laws. The biggest gas station chains in america lose a shit ton of money every year from their gas sales, and make all of their money from the stuff inside on the shelves. they could sell gas for 1 doller, and balance that loss with purchases inside. we would get cheaper gas, cheaper gas means cheaper everyday shit.....exclude gas stations from anti-trust laws thats the winner

This is how I pay only 50 cents a gallon . I don't shop at major department stores and buy things i don't need because i would see it on TV. Anyway I don't watch any TV news, sports, any sitcom past 1970, or any evil movies made recently for some reason are blue grayish in color. After i get my gas with a debit card i don't go in the station where the other loses are lined up listening to crappy mainstream radio blasting buying junk like chips, beer, pop, lotery tickets.

Newt also missed one oil from coal is profitable at $45 a barrel if the Fischer–Tropsch was not cheap and practical Germany would have been unable to go to war in 1936.

the entire pop of legal us citizens, not the pos's that run the show, should gain ownership of the oil reserves that are on our own soil; then they should be drilled, with tax money. Everyone will get a set amount of free gas, or gas based on their REQUIRED driving needs, such as work, food, etc. + extra for enjoyment. Anything else can be bought for a very reasonable sum. In the end, if there are profits, THE PEOPLE get these profits split amongst them because they own it.

Fukkushima was a 40 year old generation 2 design and Chernobyl was an RBMK or graphite core.
Forth generation reactors such as CANDU and Molten Salt reactors are safe and cannot melt down.
There not much oil in the Atlantic but drilling for natural gas they found and capped many oil well they found on accident in Wyoming.
The oil speculators are the criminals behind the high prices.

Speculators and 50 bucks - what a load of bull! Even if that was the case you would centrally plan to affect and manipulate free market just like it was done with mortgage securities? When gov intervenes with the economy look what happens - bailouts by printing so each one of us now pays for it in inflation!!!

Drilling won't be done in the U.S because the American companies do not want that to be so.... that gives them the excuse for over charging the price of gasoline... supply and demand, the general public doesn't know how much supply there is... except for what they say.. therefore we are subject to what they think the supply is... that, is monopoly right there.

develope a small home base power plant that will produce electic & hydrogen. have them hooked to the grid, so if a few go off line others will pick up the load. when demand is high, excess will feed the market. buys would pay for use,sellers would gain income. non-political/non-profit groups would regulate the systems controls to insure succes. no need to have a few large power plants that need big money to build and run. people would be in control of the peoples power needs.Edison's program...

I'm no environmentalist, but drilling out in the Atlantic is VERY dangerous because of the Gulf Stream currents. There's plenty of oil up in the Montana-Canada border area, in Alaska, and, I'm absolutely positive here, thousands of other places on land and in gulfs.

I agree with what he says about lowering gas prices. I used to be all for nuclear energy until Japan got hit. So now I'm a little iffy about nuclear plants. But the rest of what he suggests is great imo! And yes, I hope he runs and plan to vote for him in the next election. =)

Setup the tax on gas such that it has a "planned" increase in tax
methodically until it reaches say $10/gal in three years. AND WE KEEP IT HIGH
Crazy? Yah well watch what happens.
1. we get off the oil addiction and become more flexible with our energy for transportation needs.
2. our dependency on other countries for oil is reduced.
3. we raise needed funds toward the national dept as a side effect.

@republicansrule Not a good idea. The govt has estimated there are about 18 billion gallons of crude ready to drill in America, which we would consume in 2 years at our current usage rate. That's lowering the prices of gas for two years...and then what? It becomes scarce again and the prices go up. Besides, I think the government wants to keep that oil untapped until a real crisis comes along. Lending the Brazilians money to drill just means they are sharing their oil profits with us.
