Both those comments were helpful - I should have pointed out that i'm playing a mandola, I guess, so the shapes ol' Andy rattles through are the same for my instrument - especially since he's got the capo there...
Dick Gaughan's version is superb. Course he probably uses DADGAD tuned guitar. And Andy here is playing his gouzouki, so they may be the easiest to learn from. I'm trying Am-G-F-C on normal-tuned guitar - may not be exactly right, neither minor nor major key I think
I rarely resort to this kind of question but... having rattled up and down my fretboard, I can't fit any chords well to this. Any suggestions? (other than "learn to play, n00b" please).
Sadly he is not well known in the U.S., but he should be. Andy is one of those rare, brilliant players like Richard Thompson, Adrian Legg, etc. that is beyond the scope of the average music fan in the U.S. Perhaps these videos will bring new fans around.
What a good craftsman. He treats a song like a fine old piece of furniture- good call using the harmonica. I could understand all the words too! lov him!
@echoceleste andy has a capo on the fifth fret so it's in Gish key

@CelticWings2009 Have seen it, I enjoy both but am partial to this one. Each to his own.
