  • how did you make your stock

  • @TheCopper21 its the original stock. I just refinished it.

  • The camo job on your other scope will be great if you're standing against Godzilla! :P

  • @PVFF87 ya, I always thought it was very lizard looking. if you look at my AR-15 miculek compensator video you can see the full paint scheme I did...it was pretty sick. that AR is sold now but I still have my lower.

  • Where are these roll pins you mention? I'm thinking of using a scout setup on my 91/30, but until now I've never heard of the recoil being a problem with the dovetail mounts. Also, which attachment would be right to drill through the scope ring?

    Huge thanks in advance

  • @MrJohnw93 a roll pin is just a rolled flat piece of metal turned into a pin. the pin should be a bit larger in diameter than the hole its going into. since its rolled, it will deform as you press it into the hole. many rifle builds, like the AR15 use these types of pins. or, you could just use a cotter key or a split sleeve pin from home depot. yes, you only need to drill through the scope ring that lines up with the preexisting hole in the site mount.

  • @ericzanutto Would reinserting the original pins work?

  • @MrJohnw93 probably if they arent too worn out.

  • @MrJohnw93 Mounted a scope to the dovetail on my 91/30, after about 20 rounds the rings had drifted forward pushing on the top of the forearm. Scope started flopping around, I just put the iron sights back on and am now in search of a different mount. I hear good things about the Brass Stacker mount

  • @mackerel13 did you try adding recoil pins? others have said this worked for them.

  • Where U get ur bolt done?

  • @dredogin if you go on eBay and search mosin sniper bolt theres a guy that sells them on there. his name is Max Shepard and id highly recommend him. you send him your bolt and he modifies it for you. I got mine back after only like a weeks time.

  • But you cant use stripper clips with the PE/PU scopes, right?

  • @521Bobcat nope, but I never used them anyway. I dont think the snipers using these rifles were taking that many quick shots and running through rounds that fast anyway. if you remove the scope from the quick release base you can use stripper clips...maybe thats what russian snipers did if they really needed to.

  • is there drilling involved in the pe scope mount? im really thinking of getting it off of ebay, but i dont want to drill my mosin nagant as i like to keep it as close to original as possible.

  • @azntactical yes, you have to drill to attach any of the original repo scopes...PE, PU, or PEM all require drilling.

  • the finish on your gun is top notch!!

  • @tomcarro thank you! i took the finish down to bare wood with a scotch brite pad and krud cutter. I then prestained it, stained it, and coated it with 6 coats of polyurathane. all Minwax products. I also polished in between coats with extra fine steel wool.

  • @ericzanutto not only that but the natural grain is one of the best iv seen, good choice on the poly instead of the stain.

  • @ericzanutto plus the natural grain is amazing, did you hand pick it or was it a lucky ass shot in the dark?

  • @tomcarro yes, I hand picked it from my local store. remember though, its a laminated stock, thats another reason why i tlooks nice. my mauser doesnt have a laminated stock like this one.

  • You made the right choice. My friend who is a sniper for the Army told me that your eye should be at least 1 to 1 1/2 in. away from the scope. That way you'll have a straight line of sight. I'm going to do the same thing. Was it pretty hard to drill holes for the mount? Any tips.

  • @johnnygren7 ya, the PE is rock solid and looks great. the holes arent hard to drill if you have a drill press and a good center punch. the hard part was threading the holes. i think maybe I just got a bad tap but it was a pain. maybe drill the holes yourself with a depth stop but take it in to a machinest to have the holes tapped.

  • Forgive me if you've covered this...what size scope is this?

  • @snidelywhiplash im not sure since I dont own it anymore but it was a 1" tube, 10x zoom. they sell this scope online many places. its made by a company called aim (pretty cheap) the PE scope kit can be purchased through accumounts.

  • so is it sturdy? im quite abusive to my rifles, i just want a sturdy scope mount.

  • @Dmajorproductions the scout is sturdy only if you pin it somehow...like i mentioned in the video, there are a few ways to do that, the recoil will make the scout move a bit. the PE setup on the other hand is very very sturdy and doesnt move at all. its also expensive though.

  • I WANT THIS SAME SCOPE MOUNT!! Please tell me where to get the things I need for this beautiful scope mount.

  • @BoggleDongMongerFlog thanks, i have a few other videos which better talk about this scope mounting kit but you can buy the entire scope kit from accumounts(dot)com or do a google search for accumounts. I did all the gunsmithing on this by myself but id highly recommend a professional as it was far from easy and very easy to mess up. i also had the bolt bent by Max Shepheard on eBay for about $60 I think...he also did a very awesome job and has a wide range of choices for bolt design.

  • @ericzanutto Thanks, my uncle is a gunsmith, I can not find a good scope mount for my Mosin and I absolutely refuse to buy a LER scope. If I can find a decent priced Mosin scope mounting kit I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

  • could you send me a message for all the stuff i need for a setup like yours but i want to put a modern scope onto it im knew to mosins but i just got one to day and i want to get it all set up

  • @theoneshotsniper you could either get a PU or PE scope mount kit from accumounts without the scope itself. just make sure you get the kit that comes with the 1" ring adapters since most modern scopes are 1" dia. the PU or PE is a complete kit with everything you need but the tapping and drill tools (they sell those if you are going to do it yourself). I installed mine by myself but id highly recommend a gunsmith as it was very difficult and I almost mesed up my rifle.

  • @theoneshotsniper both of these kits require gun smithing so make sure youre ready for that. im not sure if they have any other kits for the mosin that are worth while on their site. ive heard they make a good non-gunsmith kit for the mauser k98 bu tnot sure about the mosin. do some research on your year and find out if a PU or PE is authentin...I think a PU might be easier to mount but I havent actually mounted a PU so i dont know for sure.

  • so for mounting a modern scope on it what all would i neeed from accumountss

  • Is that a bent bolt that you have on your riffle? Did that bolt come with that or did you purchase separate?

  • I had the bolt bent by Max Shepherd on eBay for about $60. I'd highly, very highly, recommend him. He did a superb job bending my mosin bolt and may others have said the same thing. Check him out. He's the only one on eBay offering this service right now. Even if you aren't using a scope, the bent bolt makes the bolt action opperate much smother over the stock bolt.

  • @ericzanutto Do you have any issues with shells pinging off your scope with the PE set up?

  • @ironmonkeyz ive never noticed it, nor do i have any brass marks on my scope, but ill have to pay closer attention next time to be 100% sure.

  • Good video, ericzanutto. One question: Did you install that new scope mount yourself? Two questions: If so then how hard was it? I may be many things but machinist ain't one of them.

  • @spiff2268 yes I did, all by myself with the help of my friends drill press. To put it short and simple, if I had to do it again I'd give it one more try but make sure I bought better reamers this time. If the second time didn't work I'd take it to a professional gunsmith. Here's the issue. The metal (even on my nice 1925 hex receiver) is very crappy and filled with flaws and voids. I've reamed/tapped holes before and I just couldn't get a good bite on this crappy metal...continued...

  • @spiff2268 I like to think of myself as a jack of all trades. I'm no pro machinest or mech but I can usually fix anything and figure anything out when I put my mind to it. But this one really did me in and stressed me out bad. I got it fixed and mounted right (on my own) and its rock solid, but it was a close call. Without going into too much detail, let's just say my attach fasteners are fake, just for show, and a welder could have maybe, possibly, been used to fix the damaged holes during

  • @spiff2268 tapping. Its a real good setup and I'm happy with it. I have quite a few videos on my page explaining it more and some action vids shooting with it too. Accumounts(dot)com is where I got mine from. If you get yours there, make sure you tell them they owe me a mount setup for my Mauser for all the free advertising I've been giving them, lol...seriously though.

Thanks for checking out my videos, glad you liked it!

  • oh wow, didn't know there were dovetails under the rear sight! thanks so much for this video

atm i have my mosin ready for a lil hammering.. i'm gonna work on it when i wake up

the lil crappy rail that came with my AIM scope, at the las vegas gun show, really sucks! but it came with those raised scope rings.. so that was an upside to that!

thank you again for this! i'll post comment back on how it went! lol :)

  • @problematik1 no prob, im definitely not the first person to discover or invent this though but those rail mounts made me so mad and wasted so much of my time i wanted to make a vid. the rings that came with your rail wont work, theyre too big. you need the smaller 3/8ths dovetails. id also try to get steel ones if you can. ive heard they bite better.

  • That is 1 fine looking rifle..U have been windering if this would be worth while because the only mosin's I can find here are junk BUT I can get my hands on a rebarreled K98 Mauser in ,308 and do the same type of thing with that instead.

  • @vince38curious2 thanks you. yes, you can mount a scout scope to a K98 but theres no dovetails that im aware of on mine. youd have to buy some sort of mount or adapter. atleast a scout mauser is historically accurate though.

  • @ericzanutto That sounds good but the only mauser I can get is $990 with a new .308 after adding all the extras it is about the same price for me to buy the ruger gunscout and mount a bushnell LER scope. Maybe 1 day when I have the extra cash I will build a long range mauser But not this year..The .223 comes first because .223 is cheaper to feed and reload for now.

  • @vince38curious2 thats crazy, i paid $400 for mine, complete with swastikas. 8mm mauser is easy to come by and cheap on sites like JG Sales. for my 223 im running Tula ammo at $4 for 20rds.

  • @ericzanutto God you yanks have it so great Cheap ammo cheap rifles and virtually no restrictions except for full auto and silencers DON'T LET THE GOVERNMENT TAKE YOUR RIGHTS !! Here we can't even thread the barrel for a flash suppresor Even new imports like the ruger scout rifle have the threads cut off and are recrowned before they are imported for the Australian market.. IT SUCKS TO BE AN AUSSIE SHOOTER !! Bolt / Pump Only for rifles Shot guns are Lever or double/single barrel Pump and Con't

  • @vince38curious2 man, that really really sucks! i live in California and its not even that bad. we can still shoot assault rifles like ARs, AKs, and so on so long as they have fixed mags and "bullet buttons" to release the mag. we can even shoot .50 cal DTC in CA. we can even get lic to carry so long as we have a good reason but its not worth the trouble for people like me. when im camping in the desert i carry my handgun and havent had any issues with the law.

  • @ericzanutto No Licence to carry here unless you are a licenced securtity guard Money delivery or bank employee and only while in the work place or while delivering money bank van..The only other people who carry are the police and corrections and only while on duty. THERE IS NO Civilian carry here PERIOD. To Own a pistol you must be a club shooter and you must shoot compitition with every gun at least 1 or 2 a month to JUSTIFY your licence and ONLY AT CLUB VENUES/RANGES.

  • @vince38curious2 most of us out here in CA atleast do our best to clean up any BLM (bureau of land managment) land we shoot on like in some of my videos and shoot extremely safely. i personally try to get as much of my friends who are hesitant about guns to give it a shot that way they know that guns are safe when properly handled. all it takes is one moron to do something stupid and the law hungry eco terrorists win. and if you wanna talk super lax gun laws, take a look at Arizona, awesome!

  • @ericzanutto Any responsible shooter cleans up his/her brass shot shells. SAFETY is The Name of The GAME Treat every gun as loaded until checked. I amde a comment on another video and a young guy from near where I live who has never had the chance to shoot asked me to teach him as soon as he found out we were both in the same state let alone the same city. So I have sent him a few PM's to get him started up the learning curve and my email. CONT...

  • @ericzanutto HE is really keen but only 16 so it will be harder But doable The more young people who start the better My kids will be taught gun safety and use when the are old enough to start asking questions. Every registered shooter/club member means another Voice to help keep the eco terrorists at bay just that bit longer until the government wakes up to reallity.

  • @ericzanutto Pump and semi auto shot guns are a special licence and Semi auto rimfire and centerfire rifles are another seperate licence again and you have to show cause why you need semi auto. IE Farmer or professional harvester/ roo shooter..Don't Let the Government Take away your second ammendment rights BE HAPPY you HAVE THEM because WE Do NOT !

  • @vince38curious2 im going to sound like an idiot here but all we see of Australia is tv commercials for the outback steak house, lol. from what ive seen and heard about Australia theres a lot of beautiful land there much like California, a lot of nice wilderness too...just seems like the place youd want to be able to have any gun you want to take down game and stuff like that. are your hunting laws pretty crazy too? btw, 450 rds of 7.62 x 54R + 400 rds 8mm mauser on JG sales = $220 shipped.

  • @ericzanutto OK ammo first. The laws here mean I can't import my self IE BUY ONLINE from over seas. I cam buy online inside Australia the hard part is delivery because of explosives laws..some carriers won't transport ammo..

  • @ericzanutto LOL Steak house adds hahahhahaaha OK Think of beaches like florida The biggest reef system in the world. Mountains like colorado deserts like arizona Now thrown in Hogs like texas every deer species you have there Buffalo asian bantang/cattle did I say HOGS/PIGS YET OH Yeah I did LOL The only thing you have we don't is BEARS Coyotes But we do have foxes and dingos and RABBITS LOTS OF RABBITS No prairy dogs BUT YES RABBITS..LOL

  • @vince38curious2 well thats good to know...thats pretty much how i always pictured it.

  • @ericzanutto Some farm properties up north are as big as texas 3,000,000 hectares PLUS The rivers up north have the best fishing I can think of ANYWHERE plus we have some rather nasty little critters like the red belly black snake and taipan 2 of the deadliest snakes in the world basically we have 10 out of the top 20 most deadly snakes OK BUT They will nly bite if provoked like the rattle snake or stepped on. Step on me and I would bite too LOL. I think that will make you want a trip:-_-

  • @vince38curious2 ya, id love to go there someday. so far ive only been to Mexico a bunch and Japan. the problem with taking vacations here in San Diego is thats its so hard to leave, theres just too much to do here!

  • @ericzanutto Come On Down plan to stay at least a month and enjoy the sun sand Food and of course some hunting ! Yeah it is really a great place to live especially when you can get out in the bush I know some really cool places where the water falls dig out natural spabaths in the rocks. Plus we have all the usual things theme parks clubs.

  • What did you use to get your wood to look like that? Is that a stain?

  • @drwdzz well the tiger stripes are there because this stock is a laminated stock. some mosins have these and some dont. you usually pay $10 more for a laminated one. I first cleaned the stock down with warm water and crud cutter like on iraqvetran's videos. then i sanded it down to bare wood with a scotch brite pad. i used minwax prestain and stain, then followed that up with 6 coats of poly, sanded with fine steel wool inbetween each coat.

  • A proper Soviet era scope and mount always looks better on the Mosin Nagant. Yours is superb, comrade.

  • @RedArmyCommissar thank you, my thoughts exactly. this is my first mosin but it definitely wont be my last. id like to also do a round receiver with a PU and get a carbine. the problem is that my local sporting goods store only has M1 carbines, 91/30s, and yugo SKS (all of which i plan to also own but they arent $100!). so far im real happy with this piece of history.

  • At least you took the high road and tried to get it to look like a PE repro-restoration, I applaud that. Most folks just slap a Scout scope, throw on a Monte Carlo stock, and run to the range...might as well hacksaw the barrel down and change it to a redneck carbine, but that's just me being purist and all that jazz.

    Great vid!
