Thanks again. Although I like both incarnations, (post Peter Gabriel)....of Genesis, and I saw them in concert around the early '80's, I was not sure if all the same guys rejoined with Phil Collins, through his long solo career. Although I'm pretty sure I had seen Daryl Stuermer with Phil in a clip from one of his solo tours..Did you happen to see the article that Rolling Stone magazine did with 'Phillip' a few months back?
@stradaveriusfiddle No I didn't, but since then various wrong rumours have been spread. Also, Genesis and the solo career of Phil Collins were running just as separate as Genesis + Mike & The Mechanics or the classical compositions by Tony Banks. The ballads like Hold On My Heart and In Too Deep were, against comon belief, mainly written by Mike Rutherford, Phil Collins was responsible for tracks like No Son Of Mine which he wrote the lyrics and half the music for.
@stradaveriusfiddle It is. Genesis played in the same lineup they have since 1978. Phil Collins (vocals, drums), Mike Rutherford (bass + lead guitar), Tony Banks (keyboards), Chester Thompson (drums) and Daryl Stuermer (lead guitar + bass). Backing vocals being performed by Daryl Stuermer, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks.
saffi01 thanks for the correct info about my wondering what Phil was doing with the melody near the finish of this version,...thanks again, ..'stradfidd'
At the three minute 50 sec, point, was Pil singing "follow you.../..me", in German?... I hope so, otherwise,...pretty good live re-creation of a thirty year old hit. At least Phil still sounds pretty much like he did 30 yrs ago. Have you heard what Bob Dylans voice sounds llike lately? He didn't even want to try to play his 'record version' of his hits at his concerts, five years after they came out. Also, the keyboard player had the solo down almost note for note...
@stradaveriusfiddle Nope, he was singing something like "na na na nanah...". This was actually always part of the song's live renditions as you can hear on Three Sides Live and various tours until 1986, the difference is only he's not singing it with high pitch any more.
I'd recommend the IT-Tour bootleg of the coaster factory for the best sample of the song with high-pitch ending.
Beautiful song , a perfect compliment to a beautiful woman - any woman - whose man loves his woman with any sense of fulfilment in the life she shares with him.
@rhythmdivine44 Because it is the original tone he used all those years ago when the song was first performed. If you listen to the guitar sound it was also very similar.
00:32 oh my gawsh! is that a cigar sticking out his mouth? oh, wait...its his 'janet jackson' head mic. that mustv'e been the mic that was the most 'pop' at that time...
always a fantastic song ..nice to hear it sung how it should be ... and great to see and hear this from 2007 ... cant imagine what it was like to be there ........!?
i love this song its so peaceful and touching and up beat its awesome i love phil collins voice so much he rules he was so cool with the genesis and he's cool as a single artist to man x x x x x

Yawn, yawn...keep your hair on klwew. If you post things on the next, expect a response, Have seen Genesis dozens of times and this track was dull alright. Chill out, or stay offline
@fruitydickhole You do have a point, but my counter-point is, while this isn't my site this is my upload to my channel which I handle the way I like it. As you can see on my other videos I don't delete critical comments or comments with an opinion I don't share, but insults I take the liberty to delete, simply because I would like to have a clean channel. Not many channel owners do this and personally I find it a shame as a good video or channel can lose its reputation from insulting comments.
I wouldn;t take analogue gear out out the road, it's a nightmare to keep going. I've got analogue gear, but I use digital synths for gigs, cause they work flawlessly.
I used a Juno-6 live and it was a nightmare, having to set up the patch and make sure it's in tune, much easier to gig with a "digital monstrosity". You've got to move with the times, or get left behind
The video was from an unofficial satellite record of the cinema broadcast. Before you ask though, nothing illegal, there was a free-to-get DVD of this. To see this in better quality though I recommend you wait for the Rome DVD as this one is no longer available.
Great song. I love it!!!

I believe that's Mike Rutherford playing guitar on this, but, do you know the names of the other players? Thats not Tony Banks on keyboards is it?

@stradaveriusfiddle You're welcome, I'm sure you'd also agree that German "Ich werde dir folgen, wirst du mir folgen?" wouldn't quite fit in here ;)

"Critics" like you just crack me up. Know it alls. What the fuck are they supposed to be doing on a ballad like this? "Lacks passion". Just ignorant.

Nice, but why on earth did Tony Banks choose not to play a classic synth for the lead, rather than the soulless digital monstrosity he plays here?
mcan4287 3 years ago
Tony stated in an interview awhile back that he never liked lugging around older analog synths and Mellotrons. Too unreliable.

i agree, instead of taking all the analogue stuff i try to take either a digital synth or a vst version.

@matthehat nice videos man. well maybe you could give me a hand on synths. lol

@matthehat I agree - analogue gear is good for studio sessions, while "digital monstrosities" are better suited to live shows. :)
