@102bac I honestly dont know, but since it's on the hand that would rub against the strings while he's strumming, my guess is he's trying to prevent a nasty cut or blister from forming there and making it a bitch and a half to riff like he does.

@102bac for many reasons, maybe it could enhance the tone of palm muting, but then why wouldnt james do it aswell, also was torashmeatball said so that you dont get a cut or blister, but personaly ive only ever had one cut from palm muting, and plus that part of your hand would strengthen. Also maybe that he palm mutes a bit also with his solos, so the thinner strings could cut through the hand, thus why james wouldnt tape up. Many different possibilitys :D
