First off, yes, those 45 countries combined still wouldn't be able to beat the US in a war. You have to remember that the US military budget is almost as much as the rest of the entire world COMBINED. The commonwealth is a group of countries that share an incredible past and share the same great values which America also shares, being a former colony itself the USA should take pride in its history as the others do, but it doesn't. Instead its to arrogant to recognise its history.

You obviously underestimate the power of the US military. The US navy has more tonnage of ships than the next 13 largest navies combined. The US navy is the 2nd largest airforce in the world, behind the US airforce.

Wales has a terrific national anthem. But it was written fairly recently, possibly why it's devoid of jingoism/imperialism etc but is about it's own land. The Welsh anthem is beautiful and is a pleasure to listen to as a Scot ihave to say the same cannot be said of Flower of Scotland we have an ancient and beautiful anthem in Scots whae hae why we do not use that I cannot fathom.

Also, on the note of the Welsh language, recently, the Welsh Language Boards initiatives have done a lot to promote the Welsh language within schools, where it needs to be promoted the most. I, myself, live next to a thriving Welsh language school, giving me hope for the future generations of Welsh speakers :)
I, personally, think you're confusing nationalism and racism. Being proud of your country, and supporting said country, doesn't need to include denouncing others. As a Welsh person, I would say I am very proud of our traditions and culture. This, however, does not mean I don't value the influence of other cultures.
Petty nationalism makes for failure. I do not doubt that the UK was full of Welsh Celts running around until invaded and defeated. The broad mix of Normans, Vikings, Saxons, Jutes and others have made the Uk into a success. As long as we look forward and take the advantage instead of whinging we might get somewhere. Having lived in Wales I am certain that the promotion of the Welsh language is a major factor in the failure of Wales.

But as a linguist, I can only say that Welsh IS a celtic language. Just look at the similarities between Welsh, Breton and Irish Gaelic: dog = ci,ki, cú; fire = tân, tan, tine; black = du, du, dubh; etc...
As the Welsh (Britons) came first and the Celts later, picking up their language on their travels. Is it not more correct to say that Celt and Gaelic are Pictish and Welsh languages. The Welsh have been around a lot longer than the Celts and succesfully fought off Celtic invasions. Your studies of language will tell you that the dominant user of a language does not nececissarily mean they were the developers of the language. English and Latin languages come to mind.

My father's side of the family is from Wales my last name is Powell. I have heard this is from a ancient line of king of wales not sure if this is right or not said the name wasn't Powell originally it was something I could not pronounce. Later on though it became AP Howell then later the A and H were dropped to become Powell. If anyone has knowledge on this let me know I am American so yeah not sure about history over there.

The English dont have a National Anthem. "God Save the Queen" is the anthem of the United Kingdom (and the Commonwealth). So technically any country within the UK (and Commonwealth Countries) could sing GSTQ.
Perhaps England should choose a National Anthem, and choose one thats a bit more uplifting and quintessentially English. Theres a few possible ones:

Wales has a terrific national anthem. But it was written fairly recently, possibly why it's devoid of jingoism/imperialism etc but is about it's own land. When you think what a wonderful anthem Scotland could have had - given the pipes and their musical tradition - I think Flower of Scotland is, well, not the best. Just the same old hatred.

@asmodeon in belgium you have everyday 9 ours class included with the break time, its 4days mostly from 8:20u to 16:45u and 1day is a half day with 4ours, so we are drilled from are youngest years to be a big man, every fucking information we have to know like different language we learn/ some children can't handle this in the begin, also myself had few troubles but here i'am talking englisch, french, and netherlands (not german)

Also, on the note of the Welsh language, recently, the Welsh Language Boards initiatives have done a lot to promote the Welsh language within schools, where it needs to be promoted the most. I, myself, live next to a thriving Welsh language school, giving me hope for the future generations of Welsh speakers :)

Petty nationalism makes for failure. I do not doubt that the UK was full of Welsh Celts running around until invaded and defeated. The broad mix of Normans, Vikings, Saxons, Jutes and others have made the Uk into a success. As long as we look forward and take the advantage instead of whinging we might get somewhere. Having lived in Wales I am certain that the promotion of the Welsh language is a major factor in the failure of Wales.

The Welsh are not Celts or even cousins of Celts. They are the original Britains and were on this island long before it became an island and definately before the Celts invaded.
The Welsh fought back all invaders and were only succombed to massive military investment by the English, where it took only a few shillings to pay the treaturous Scotts to plot among themselves.

But as a linguist, I can only say that Welsh IS a celtic language. Just look at the similarities between Welsh, Breton and Irish Gaelic: dog = ci,ki, cú; fire = tân, tan, tine; black = du, du, dubh; etc...

As the Welsh (Britons) came first and the Celts later, picking up their language on their travels. Is it not more correct to say that Celt and Gaelic are Pictish and Welsh languages. The Welsh have been around a lot longer than the Celts and succesfully fought off Celtic invasions. Your studies of language will tell you that the dominant user of a language does not nececissarily mean they were the developers of the language. English and Latin languages come to mind.

My father's side of the family is from Wales my last name is Powell. I have heard this is from a ancient line of king of wales not sure if this is right or not said the name wasn't Powell originally it was something I could not pronounce. Later on though it became AP Howell then later the A and H were dropped to become Powell. If anyone has knowledge on this let me know I am American so yeah not sure about history over there.

@mrmudmouth erm...your wrong on both of those. I lived in wales for 3 years and have many welsh friends, The national anthem is amazing, the passion welsh people have for rugby is top! However, just chanting wales, wales, wales is so repetative and boring. So no, I am not 'weak' or 'jelous' just putting my point across like millions of others on here and I love getting comments from low lifes like yourselves :)

The English dont have a National Anthem. "God Save the Queen" is the anthem of the United Kingdom (and the Commonwealth). So technically any country within the UK (and Commonwealth Countries) could sing GSTQ.
Perhaps England should choose a National Anthem, and choose one thats a bit more uplifting and quintessentially English. Theres a few possible ones:

I'd take either of these over fucking god save the queen and I'm English. I don't care that flower of Scotland is about the Scots beating the English in some ancient battle, it's got a damn good melody. I'd probably be more happy with Bread of Heaven. Man, if I could do one thing with my life it would be quite something to make Bread of Heaven the national anthem. I wonder how one would go about this?
