These careless and inconsiderate people who use mobile phones while driving deserve to be filmed and shamed. A worthy 'upgrade' to this type of video could be of delivery drivers, builders etc, being captured using their phones while driving. Showing the company name and telephone number on the side of their vehicle on the video could potentially give them bad publicity, which has a chance of affecting them financially. That that loss of earnings could be considered a fine, for braking the law.
I don't see the problem in having a mobile in the car... just aslong as it's in the glovebox and locked away like mine is no matter how many times it rings... am only 21 and act like a 50year old lol
Drivers like this are a problem for all road users becasue their concentration is broken which means a collision is more likely. Many times when I have been driving, cycling and walking I have encountered situations like this.
@magnatom *Grammar. Correct me if I am wrong, but are you not a learned man? Quick to criticise others when it comes to spelling and grammar, practice what you preach and get in the gutter you freeloading parasite. :)
@magnatom It's spelt grammar you stuck up cunt. You act as if you are the best thing since toast and your sarcasm is really funny. Learn how to spell before you judge others you fool!
@Omblad00n2007 'arae' is usually spelt 'are'. But I'll let you off this time considering your born and bred in Mordor with your six fingered family, prick. Feelings mutual then?
@Omblad00n2007 is that a confession to using your hone whilst driving? most of the numbskulls hurling abuse at magnatom seem to be guilty of simillar incidents
@Omblad00n2007 is that a confession to using your phone whilst driving? most of the numbskulls hurling abuse at magnatom seem to be guilty of simillar incidents
Bloody mobile phones.I was riding along the side of a straight main road (we don't have primary/secondary here, so basically was riding in the gutter so I wouldn't hold up traffic) when some twit roars up from behind me and turns left in front of me to park his car in a parking space outside the front of a shop. There was literally less than a second between his car and my bike as he turned. Why did he do this?Coz his mobile was ringing and he *had* to answer it. Wtf is the answering service for?
i was hit by car on a pedestrian crossing, the guy came over to me saying he was sorry and that he had been using his phone, (although he denied this later and the only witness disappeared) i went blind temporarily, spent a week in hospital with a knackered leg which still hurts in the cold and i get frequent migraines. these people dont realise how dangerous it is!!
mine too, i was knocked down on a pedestrian crossing, the guy was too busy on his phone to notice the red light, he came running over to me saying he was sorry and that he had been on his phone of course when police questioned him he denied it and he got away with it. i went blind temporarily, spent a week in hosptal with a knackered leg and still get pains in the cold as well as frequent migraines. Bastard!!
Did he actually drive off through a red light too, or was it a left turn filter lane?
According to RoSPA's report, driving while on the phone carries the a higher risk than drink driving. It's just that one is still socially acceptable, while the other is now universally regarded as the bahaviour of morons.
What has my sexuality got to do with posting cycling videos on the web? Your comments are homophobic and suggest that your intelligence is so low that instead of resorting to reasoned argument you have to, attempt to annoy me homophobic insults. I wonder is it me or you who is sad? I wonder.....
A hand held device is something that "is or must be held at some point during the course of making or receiving a call or performing any other interactive communication function"
No mention of holding it to your ear in the legislation is there.
So what you mean is that you are the internet police? Certainly not a real officer! LOL!
Im a probationer with nearly 2 years service, I obviously know a lot more than you. It doesnt mention the holding up to your ear however the deifnition of "USE" does. It must be in held up to their ear for it to be "use". I suggest you stop googling "mobile phone laws" and actualy ask someone in person. And you still avoided my "how is he obvlivious" ? You have a helmet cam!
You're absolutely correct. I did google. I googled again and have had a look at the legislation itself (The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) (Amendment) (No. 4) Regulations 2003). No mention of use constituting having thephone at your ear here.
Note:
"a mobile telephone or other device is to be treated as hand-held if it is, or must be, held at some point during the course of making or receiving a call or performing any other interactive communication function"
Hello? Are you serious? Honestly? You really are thick. I suggest you stay off the internet and actually take a car to work. You obviously have no clues about law.
Oh and as for oblivious. He is oblivious to me peering at him from right next to his car. Do they teach you observation skill in the internet police....sorry I mean police! LOL!
Sorry, is he supposed to be paying attention to an everyday cyclist looking at him? Didn't think he would care too much. Also, reply to my comment about "why are you cycling at top speed when your puting yourself at danger due to the fact that you could fall off - on your "bikes are slow" vid.
Dont agree with the mobile phone whilst driving thing.
However, would love to know how the stats are calculated!!
There was a tv show on recently with Quentin Wilson who proved that driving whilst under the influence improved driving skills by making drivers more cautious, contrary to the figures which the government published.
Again, I dont agree with the driving-spliff thing.
Frakking BMW drivers.....

When someone can afford the running costs of a 5-series, is £30 for a hands-free bluetooth unit to clip to the sunvisor too expensive for them?
Personally I'd double the fines and points for drivers caught on the phone - it's dangerous, selfish and no-one bothers about the current penalties.
Keep the videos coming - maybe naming and shaming some people online will make them take a little more care with their driving.

Nobody cares about people who use speakerphone. It's not illegal. It's illegal to hold it up to your ear.
cheers.

Wrong.
magnatom 2 years ago
Actualy I am right. I am in the Police you idiot. The legislation states that "use" of a mobile phone means holding it up to your ear.
Also, if you can't make out the registration in the vid - you saying the registration is irrelevant as you could be making it all up anyway.

They apply to england, not scotland.
In scotland you want to be looking up s.41 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 or Construction and Use regs 100.
