there was a game just like this for Genesis, but you flew in a spaceship. it was not a side scroller. I only remember the one "sandworm-ish" creature you had to shoot at.
@dumbfk12 This was an older video before I obtained the necessary emulation & software. Many of the videos You see have been sitting on My hard drive for a while before I upload them. >_<
I used to have an amstrad and this shit was another game, nothing to look like the arcade, you couldnt even shoot trees, very poor game!!! I think the spectrum version even looks better!!!
Excellent! I love the Master System version regardless of what anybody says. I used to play it for hours! I played this on many platforms. The Gameboy Advance, C64, NES, TG16, and Game Gear versions were missing alot of the mojo and vibe. The 32X was the closest. Saturn's version was perfect, but the continue option was changed. Too bad the 360 Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection version was flawed with the incorrect music pitching. That alone made the game unplayable. Wii's DLC version? 100%.
What's sad is that the best port of all -- the x68000 port -- never saw release. Graphical and sound differences from the arcade were minor, AND it had Haya-Oh like the SMS and NES versions!
ZX Spectrum, C64, and Amstrad CPC were fine systems, but trying to port "Space Harrier" to them was just asking for trouble. Same goes for "Outrun" and many other mid-to-late-1980s arcade hits. Oddly enough, one game that did seem to port well was "The New Zealand Story"....
I like how the Sega Master System had a true exclusive final Boss. Not even the arcade had the Final Twin Fire Dragons. It was also the first version I played so I was able to easily appreciate everything about the SMS version.
I had fond memories in the SMS version.

Those things in the Famicom version look like fortune cookies.

If you consider the size of the screen the GBA version is 100% perfect

The best version is the SEGA Dreamcast port. Go into the arcade on Shenmue and you can play this and Hang On.
Arcade perfection of those games on your home system.

@wrestletube1 Saturn Version is better. And I think 32X also.

8.Turbografx-16 Brings back the Arcade Version Perfectly WITHOUT Fucking it up and it looks a little better than the Arcade
9.it looks ok just like the Arcade again but a Little Crappier
10.The 32X Version looks like the Arcade yet Again but nothing much to say about it

My Predicition on all 10 Versions:
1.Arcade is Good!
2.It's still is the same but it looks like Shit and there's no Music
3.wtf is this? A Cartoon?
4.Seems ok but you can't move left or right to get the full 3D Effect but it still is ok!
5.wtf they didn't Floodfill anything they just sketched it out and put it in the Final Version Good Job..... IDIOTS!
6.looks good but what with the sound?
7.still looks the same like the Game Gear but with the Sound Imroved
To Be Continued.....

i disagree Space Harrier on the Sharp X68000 is the best port
it fails to maintain the speed of the Space Harrier arcade game
32X and Saturn were the best versions of Space Harrier arcade

The 32X version is almost perfect. I own it, and its probably the best port I've played.

The USA version of Space Harrier for the C64 looks much better due to the quick and simple addition of raster bar effect for the floor :o)

I'd love to see you do a second part to this, as there were TONS of ports that a lot of people would like to see you cover.

I just loved it!
Slowpode 11 months ago
@Slowpode True, it reminds me of the never ending story, its like Sega took that and added the one eyed mammoths.
