There are many words for being black for example, just as there is for being gay, but it would be considered racist to make african-american mean dumb. First off the orignal Definetion of "gay" is "cheery: bright and pleasant; promoting a feeling of cheer" but people changed the word gay to mean homosexual... So it's no different then what people are doing now

Yes i know the original definition, but didn't you understant what i wrote!? the meaning has changed into something more significant and is now defining a group of people. To change a word rather neutral into signifying a group is one thing, but to then change it to an insult is wrong because it will then become synonomous with that group of people. It is used as an insult because of its current definition, projecting a negative image onto gay people, that is not simple language development!
