  • I couldn't care one whit about what environmentalists want or don't want. These modern-day hippies are against everything; finding fault with everything and contributing nothing. They piss and moan about how fossil fuels, or nuclear power, or coal "destroy the environment", but they expect power delivery to their homes so they can enjoy air conditioning and such.

Fuck environmentalists. You wanted wind power. Live with it.

  • wind power is a huge scam that makes a few rich guys, richer. does anyone know how many conventional powerplants(oil, coal, nuclear) have closed because of windfarms? ZERO! the power from a turbine is not at constant so when it is fed into the grid being powered, there is still the same old generators running in case the wind dies. most all turbines are made in china. in the lifespan of a turbine, it will never replace the energy it took to build the thing. then has to be shipped, then trucked.

  • just wait till news footage gets around of people in low lying areas having their homes flooded. i detest these protesters who worry about their precious views while whole country's infrastructures are at stake.

  • @gurusomb You have no idea what you are writing about. This is much more than a matter of"precious views". These people are protesting because they are being forced to live in an industrial development without any compensation for loss of health and property values. Whether it's a coal, oil, or wind company it is wrong to have your life dictated by a corporation who is in this for profit alone without any regard for other humans. Look into the issue before you make frivolous comments.

  • @78greenie I can understand that with something like an oil plant/ nuclear station, but these wind turbines don't damage health- and what would you prefer, a town losing property value or cities flooded and tens of thousands of homes destroyed?

  • @gurusomb Wind turbines do cause health problems. Google "wind turbine problems" and you'll find lots of info. Groups like American Wind Energy Association say there is no problem, but they are just promoting and selling a product. Regarding your second point, it is apparent that you believe the installation of wind turbines will mitigate global warming. This simply isn't true. Humans use electricity 24/7 and wind comes and goes so none of the traditional power plants have been shut down.

  • @78greenie oh yeah sure , bad bad wind turbines, let's go for the healthy nuclear shit

  • Green energy is great when it is done responsibly, taking the valid concerns of the local residents into consideration, and coming to a consensus about what should be done in the best interest of BOTH the environment and the people in it. When these projects are given license to force their projects to go ahead without studying potential heath risks, or when they manipulate the rules to avoid proper environmental assessments and secure their profits, is this the spirit of Green Energy or greed?

  • Ugly is when an irresponsible, so-called "green" project wants to put wind turbines in a fresh water lake right near the water intake valves that provide the drinking water to tens of thousands of ppl, like the proposed project for Kingsville Ont., Can. The toxins resting deep in the sediment include cadmium, a carcinogen that can also cause kidney failure, and turbines would stir this into the water we drink. Mandatory health studies done at 10.0 MW of output - this proposal, 9.99 MW. UGLY!

  • Ugly is working in a coal mine. Ugly is what coal emissions are for lakes, human health and polar ice caps. Ugly is a nuclear power plant that has dangerous waste you can't do anything with. Ugly is fighting and dying in a war in Iraq for energy. I think that the wind turbines are beautiful because of what they do and ugly is not an argument.

  • Would like to add however, Turbines should be planned so they don't upset the esthetic of the community... there should be public discourse.

  • Yeah - that's kind of the point here. There was zero meaningful public discourse and these turbines are being located near heavily-populated areas.

  • I agree. Wind Power rules!!!

  • Silly... WIND POWER is here to stay... better than a coal refinery...

  • It would be if it actually worked at an industrial level. Better discover the truth before we sell out the whole state of Ohio to a bunch of farmers and wind developers.

  • Are wind turbines noisy? I've never heard that claim before...

  • They are if you live 914 feet away as these people will do. The turbine manufacturer, Nordex, recommends a distance of nearly twice as much for homes due to "noise and shadow flicker" - a direct quote from their own website.

  • Another NIMBY special

  • Way to go protesters! Let the Governor know these turbines are not clean or green (unless you're talking about the green that the wind company will make from taxpayer subsidies).

  • Stop The Wind Turbines In Champaign County...!!!
