  • LOL yes Davisons class! :)

  • what up davisons class haha

  • @OriginalWhippy lol hello

  • but old people dont like me

  • Super valid point Mr Mercer, students/education is so 'left-of-the-radar'!

The government needs to do better for education before its too late. Jpb creation is as important as healthcare but they(gov) don't see that.

  • Maybe political parties (Conservatives and somewhat Liberals) don't really want students to vote because most young people tend to have more socialist views

  • lol and not your fact ID

  • Could one not say then it is students own fault they are not a priority? If they all bothered to vote, and it was seen by politicians they can make a difference, then you could be sure they would be payed attention to.

  • @SilverstoneZED

ummm yeah? That was the message of the video you just watched.

  • Mercer for prime!

  • youth.greenparty.ca

  • Education was mentioned by ignatieff.

  • @arsenelupin123 this is from 2008 -_-

  • @xxMustardTigerxx

    Oops, my bad.

  • Wheres the one for 2011?

  • I want to clarify to everyone that happens to check my profile, I am not affiliated with any political party. I just want to encourage everyone to vote, especially the younger generation of Canadians to vote. They are the ones who are most likely not to vote this coming federal election. You will probably say, "Oh I only have one vote so I won't go to the polls." Do you think one person doesn't matter????

  • Youth really need to start voting. Things will never change. Your vote will make a difference. It's tim

  • vote vote vote!! ^_^ come on students! show the politicians we're here!

  • I'm going to vote in my first federal election :) Come on, if more of us vote, they might actually care and lower out tuition fees which are rising for no reason. I noticed during the debate ( the part I watched anyways) none of them were really serious about education.

  • rick mercer, why arent YOU running for prime minister, id vote for you in a heartbeat <3

  • What Canada needs now is more Mercer.

  • hell yeah!! Students, let's get out there and vote!!

  • who the hell are these people who don't like this, for real?!

  • 'Vote out of spite'. I love this guy. I would vote for him.

  • he just walks up and down the same alley!

  • awesome!

  • ROCK THE VOTE!

  • this is amazing

  • what does he mean by "official looking mail"

do I need anything other than like, my license and social insurance number card?

  • @jmbtake6 he means a bill, lease, whatever that has your address on it - vote!

  • @jmbtake6 license and SIN card will do perfectly,,,something with an address i think

  • Much love for this and Rick, THANK YOU!

  • Rick mercer for prime minister!!!

  • It's a shame students don't realize how much their vote actually matters.

  • High tuition fees = Less competition when I grad. Good good.

  • @Halfno unfortunately this isn't true because with almost anyone virtually guaranteed a student loan, students will be able to 'afford' post secondary regardless of high tuition fees get

  • @jiveturkey86 Yes because we all love being 20+ thousand dollars in debt when we first get out of school.

  • @Jizznaught higher demand for post education due to easy loans in a limited space raises prices...schools take advantage of the fact the government will loan you money to go to school...if the cdn government gives you easy home loans do you not think it will inflate prices in the real estate market like it did in the states?

  • When a company makes a product that doesn't sell well, they don't blame the consumers for not buying it. Why blame the youth for not voting when we don't like what's up for offer? I will always vote, but I can certainly see why so many youth don't. Have you seen what politicians today are doing? What we need is a leader/politician that has an "it" factor. It's time to work on the product, not blame the consumer.

  • @Angeepantz because it is too much of a risk to try to pull in the student vote, when the vast majority of us have no history of voting or known desire to do so. Either way, do you think politicians care about the process as long as they are in power? If politicians were thinking about fairness we would have things like proportional representation (of some kind), compulsory voting, etc.

  • Ironically university students do vote. It is youth of the same age cohort who do not go to university who do not vote!

  • @heavytank89 I don't go to university, and I vote.

  • @koffeeben Maybe not you but statistically in Canada they vote where other age cohorts of students used to.

  • @heavytank89 Students barely vote, in any elections. Why do you think that nothing in the platforms are for 18-25 year olds?

  • @heavytank89 Students barely vote, in any elections. Why do you think that nothing in the platforms are for 18-25 year olds?

  • if you got rid of canadian student loan program, tuition fees would go down by 50%

  • also, why would anyone dislike this video... do they not want students to exercise their rights?>

  • student here, and i couldnt agree more with what he is saying. I just posted this video to my fb and will make sure to flood my friends' news feeds with comments telling them to vote on the days leading upto the open polls.

  • Thank you Rick. We need informed voters who ask questions & demand respectful answers without any 'double speak'.

The harper government was just shown to be in contempt of Parliament .Harper was largely responsible for the dysfunctional Parliament. Canadians deserve better.

  • I would love to vote for YOU, Rick!! Seriously, we need someone who cares about the people and has a voice... YOU would be such an amazing Prime Minister!

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!

  • ignore the thumbs down...meant to click thumbs up...lol

  • I can't wait to vote :) I'll be 18 in a few months, so call in election :P

And thanks for telling me how simple it was, I thought I did have to register.

i think I'll put this up on facebook in the week preceding the next election.

  • @Ivory623 an election has been called. it's gonna happen in just over a month because the financial budget was not passed.

  • @1854218542 Thanks, I hadn't heard anything about it. I read its May 2? I won't be 18 by then. At least I can encourage some of my friends to vote.

  • @1854218542 Important correction - the Government fell on a non-confidence vote not because of the budget, but because they were found to be in CONTEMPT of parliament.

Contempt of Parliament means one of (1) deliberately misleading members of parliament or a parliamentary committee; (2) refusing to testify or provide requested documents to MPs or committees; (3) attempting undue influence over an MP.

  • @aidolonYT they were found to be in contempt of parliament because they weren't fully disclosing all information about certain spending in the budget.

  • @Ivory623 You DO have to register.....however, it is NOT a big, complicated process.... and you do NOT have to register in advance.... you just register a miinute before you vote...so basically... as long as you show up to vote, you'll be fine :)

  • @ammarios oh okay, thanks! (I'm to young for this election aways, but I'll remember for the future).

  • @ammarios You do not need to register. I went out and voted today without registering. Like Rick said, you just need a photo ID and a piece of mail with your name and address on it. Everything is taken care of at the voting area.

  • @krunk485 Yes you do.... if you have never voted in the riding before and are not registered there, then your name is not on the poll key, and you have to go and register .. it takes a minute and right afterwards you can vote..and it's all in the same room too... I worked during this election with Elections Canada as Information Officer... it was my job..I was not allowed to admit anyone to the polls who wasn't registered to vote ...you don't have to be registered in advance though

  • I might vote out of spite. As a general rule; I hate higher ups.

  • I would just like to say, that the single NDP riding in Alberta is the University of Alberta area...clearly we care!

  • It's because of non-voting students that the Conservatives got to power. and are still in power

  • hmm......I think anyone who is eligible should vote, I might not agree with every canadian voter and who they vote for but I respect the democratic system and the party that wins the majority in a fair election, Although I might not agree with the direction of that party it has the largest amount of support from canadians. Personally, I can't wait to do my first vote since I am now eligible, So I state again, in my opinion anyone who is eligible should take the time and vote.

  • I used this when i was in my computer class this year.

  • @AFarCryDistantMemory no it doesn't.

  • Men died on the beaches so you could vote - Amen to that!

  • You all know what, this is actually a very good public service announcment. This should be played at campus' across tha nation. Take a million votes and then maybe 17 to million eligable voters. Your talking upwards of 5% there. Anyone recall any results that ca,e with 5% in the last election?!?Oh, about 20. That could have changed the balance of power. People, don't ever think that your vote doesn't count, it really does and could change the face of the next governement.

  • My comment below is @MEpianist:

  • education is provintial... not federal

  • It's mostly provincial, but the federal government throws in a bunch of funding.

  • The proportion of federal funding has decreased over the past 3 decades. Both of you are correct. I do wish they would invest more money in education. My highschool English class of 31 students and half of them didn't speak english properly. 1 teacher 31 students, lol.

  • Well then that's up to the provinces to invest money in education. If you want more money to be invested in enducation then ask the provincial government.

That's why schools in Ablerta are more funded then schools in Quebec.

  • Yes, you are very correct. Alberta has (well had, hopefully will still have) the luxury of having more money to invest, since they do have additional revenue generated from their energy sector.

I live in Ontario, and our province has a record 24.5 billion dollar deficit, since our manufucturing sector has been trashed and taxpayers needed to bailout the big 3 and there's no money for additional investment.

    .

  • Well that's what happened when a province is dependent on exporting to one country in ression. Try producting things that can be exported to china or Japan, there economy is booming.

  • But I know that other provinces have had it worse. I know this guy that said when he was a kid in Newfoundland they had to wheelbarrel in 1 tv if a teacher wanted to show a educational film. The entire school only had 1 television and basically 1 apparatus for any class.

  • So the school I went to had one TV. Why does a school need more then one tv.

  • Students need to vote!

  • On a provincial level yes but on a federal level that's not gona make any difference.

  • Why do Canadians need a fake ID? Don't they have a rational drinking age?

  • It's called a joke.

  • The fake IDs are to get into the bars; as in, they are used to trick the bouncer out front. Drinking ages are set provincially- the drinking age in Ontario is 19, so naturally, you may have an 18 y.o. trying to use his older bothers ID, for example.

  • the drinking age is 18 and 19 in some places

  • @MEpianist to drink earlier thats why. we start young up here.

  • I'm glad to see you've matured since your six, I think you'd be better to cover your ears and say "lalalala". Because that's what your doing. Go to the poles and vote, men have died for you to have this right, not doing it is a slap in their face!

  • @Xyno1100 without federal/provincial funding for universities tuition would triple, as they provide 2/3 of funding. Also since universities are public institutions government can make them change for example pay for textbooks like they do in high school.

  • You don't even need a piece of mail, just your drivers lisence :P I wasn't registared to vote in advanced and that's all I brought :D

  • If you live away from home (i.e. not what's on your drivers licence) you need a piece of mail saying that you live in that riding (area).

  • I fake id says I'm from Wisconsin. I wonder if elections Canada would have a problem with that ;)

  • Agree!

  • I LOVED this rant. In fact, I used it during my teaching placement with my grade 5s the day before the students took part in the vote. It made them realise THEY as a collective, could make a difference. Thanks!

  • @MyFatDiaries good job lying to the next generation of canadians, making them think they have a choice when it comes to who controls their lives.

  • @MyFatDiaries WTF you use this with a grade 5 class? did they even know what the hell was going on??

  • Very Good, Need More Serious Yet Entertaining Rants like these.
