  • Richard Dawkins has gone off the rails:

search for Richard Dawkins and male privilege on Phil Plait's Bad Astronomy blog.

Participating in flaming a woman because she dares to say 'don't objectify me at a conference'? Poorly done, Dawkins.

  • @8yankee I did indeed search for it and read the comments in question. It was rude, trivializing something that legitimately upset that woman. However, the subject of this woman's upset was something truly deserving of ridicule. A man asked, using appropriate euphemisms, whether or not the lady would be amenable to having sex and then respected her choice not to. Yeah, awful.

  • OMG, thats him!!!! Been trying to remember this dude for ages, thanks richard.. for both bringing entertaining and intellectual guest speakers!

  • @ youneekk

    No he wasn't

  • what is that trash around the actor's neck?

  • Ha, ha! They do have such bad hair, don't they?

  • What is he supposed to do about the Prime Directive?

  • So what, I liked it! It was just my time to learn more about (whatever it is)

  • did i have free will to choose to be created?

did i have free will to choose to go to the garden of eden?

Of you tell someone thast free will includes being banished to hell i doubt they d still want to have it. They would exercise their free will to vote against having free will. Or at least give them the chance to. i didnt have that chance.

  • @omnissient Of course no 1 chose to be created. It's impossible.

  • @Strangerinasland If its impossible then it cant be done. But if God is all powerful then he can do it. So if its impossible then God is not all powerful. Pwned again noob.

  • @omnissient Something that doesn't exist cannot choose to exist.

"Pwned again noob." What? Are you 7 years old?

  • Hey at 5:15 isnt that Jacob from LOST?

  • How can a topic so rich for parody result in such average material?

This is a genuine low point of AAI 2009. Without breaking their strides on their relative subjects Lawrence Krauss and Christopher Hitchens get more, better and smarter laughs.

I'm glad that this kind of thing is out there but it's a pale shadow of what could be achieved.

  • And there's the rear view!

  • Having a total disregard for life and your fellow humans isn't normal; but on Religion it is.

    RELIGION: NOT EVEN ONCE

  • Brian Dalton used to be a Mormon? Mind blown. I <3 Mr. Deity.

  • @sheldonwh they site homophobia and violence against gays as a bad thing in their videos and In their comments as a bad thing. How can you not see the satire? Polit ical correctness is out of control. Is there a list somewhere that says "you can't crack a joke about these people"? If there is, I'm sure all of the worlds religions are included.

  • Great quotation: "The idea that anyone who doesn’t believe as you believe is going to burn in hell for the rest of forever is probably the worst idea in the history of mankind." I put it on my facebook profile! Thanks for a great talk.

  • that was good, strong ending comparing the progress of humanity between christianity and secularism. my necks a little sore, but very entertaining.

  • Imagine for a moment that Brian read some joke emails that began with, "I love Mr Deity, but why does God have to act like such a nigger?", and continued with, "I love the idea that God acts like a watermelon eating Black guy..."

If that offends you, then consider why so many people laughed when he instead said, "acts like a fag," and "acts like an effete homosexual." Why is bashing gays acceptable, when using racist comments is not? Very disappointing, Mr Deity.

  • @Sheldonwh Then it would still be satire. If you noticed the email in question was supposed to be from an asshole christian, what did you expect it to sound like?

  • @xSolraccarloSx It was supposed to be from an asshole, yes, but he's using it to get cheap laughs by using a term that is HIGHLY offensive. In the second one, he's also reacting to it as if it's a BAD thing to be called an effete homosexual. What's wrong with being an effete homosexual? Or ANY kind of homosexual? Why get upset, and why use THAT along with the other one that uses the gay-nigger word "fag"? And WHY DO I HAVE TO EXPLAIN THIS AT ALL? It's incredible that Liberals don't get this!

  • @Sheldonwh

The joke is that although he thought he'd be reading comments that were complimentary, they were in fact, not so. Get it?

Never has anyone ever meant the term "fag" as a compliment . Also, although many people are openly and matter-of-factly gay, I don't think any of them would be happy or even indifferent to hearing themselves described as an "effete homosexual". So instead of reading comments meant to laud him, he was reading comments discribing him in a disparaging way. See?

  • @Maargen I really don't need you to try and explain this to me. You should probably step back and try to understand the different communication channels this dual message is being sent on. I don't think you "see" what's happening here. But then, if you're not a minority, why would you?

  • @Sheldonwh I don' think that was gay bashing. It was satire.

  • @SgtDICTION It never ceases to amaze me how HARD it is to get through to people about this issue. Even well educated, well meaning people simply CANNOT see homophobia when it's right before their eyes. They make exactly the same excuses for it that racists still make in the South about using the word "nigger." "Anyone can be a nigger. I don't mean Black people." Bullshit.

  • This last part is wonderful. Dalton's presents a great response to people like Dinesh, who claim Christianity is the foundation of just about everything in our society. He actually tries to derive ideas like the separation of church and state, equal dignity for women, even science from the Bible. But the simple fact is Christianity had a long time to build the just city, and it took enlightenment thinkers. The American founders were more like Hitchens' and Dawkins' than people think.

  • I got an error when I opened the video. However, switching to any resolution other 360p plays the video normally.

  • I'm glad I am who I am

    I'm glad I know who I am

    I don't want to be

    Anybody but me

    I'm glad I am who I am!

  • Brian, you are awesome, but for the love of Mr. Deity, STOP PACING!!! lol Great presentation, nevertheless.

  • 25:05 Some good advice for mormons who want to leave the church!

  • i thought i married the devil, but it turns out my wife did.

  • "Tell that to jobe"

    LOL

Leaders with bad hair. lolz. So that happens everywhere.

    45:00

that was a nasty one. Love it.

  • @moonlightbateman So you are saying that the only thing that you can believe in is god? That there isn't anything else to believe in? So Christians, Jews, Atheists and all other people can't believe in abstract concepts like honesty, integrity, commitment, love, bravery, responsibility, etc.? Because by your logic these things are "nothing" or "boring".

  • @IndigoMisfit just saying...atheism is the belief in...nothing

  • @moonlightbateman wrong, why do we have to explain what Atheism is over and over again lazy butts? the info is out there and is not that hard to understand. Thesim= belif in a god or gods. A= without. Atheism=without belief in a god or gods, period, that's all. So where the "believe in nothing" part comes in? Atheism regards belief, different. if Atheism is a belief then not playing basketball is a sport, not cooking a pie is recipe and... bah, I'm wasting my time you just don't get it.

  • @DocStrange0123 so what you are saying is that atheism is the belief in...nothing

  • @moonlightbateman are you slow or do you have some sort of difficulty with your reading skills? example: do you believe in Vishnu? (supreme God in the Vaishnavite tradition if Hinduism) yes? no? probably not. what does that makes you? let's call it an AVishnuist. Does your lack lack of belief in Vishnu changes something about your wold view? no, regarding belief the only difference is that we go one god further. If you're gonna talk about something learn what that something is first.

  • @DocStrange0123 so what you meant to say is that atheism is the belief in...nothing (lol)

  • @moonlightbateman what I mean at this point is that you are mentally deaf. What a waste of energy and atoms to form a human being like you. Hope you'll be happy in wonderland with alice. I'm done with you, I have very low tolerance for stupid bullshit.

  • @DocStrange0123 I see, so atheism is the belief in...nothing

  • Don't feed the trolls, buddy. Don't feed the trolls.

  • @moonlightbateman ok, I see... mentally deaf... I'm done with ya...

  • @moonlightbateman

    you're stupid

  • @SGplayer3 and you believe in...nothing

  • @moonlightbateman

and you belive that you're clever or going somewhere with this

  • @IndigoMisfit Actually, although you are right, many dictionaries and lexicons define atheism pretty poorly, if not completely wrong. Oftentimes they presume the existence of god by noting "denial of" in the definition. How Fail is that?

  • @hpholland so true, like people who try to act like being an atheist implies any belief structure beyond an unwillingness to commit to the god hypothesis without evidence

  • @hpholland It's a damn sad thing, indeed.

  • damn....you're retarted! hahaha....

  • @moonlightbateman

yeah cause basing your life on the believe of something is better!

    derp

  • @moonlightbateman its a rejection in god or gods

  • Haha you have problems!

  • I don't think he's the one who's ignorant.

  • How are they half truths? What facts do you have to back it up?

  • It's funny how it's being held at a Marriott...the Mormon hotel that puts a Book of Mormon in every room.

  • Atheist Alliance International. Did you try googling for that?

  • I love this. I didn't know that Brian is an ex-mormon too.

  • The certainly hate knowledge all you have to do is teach.

  • GILF

  • LMAO at @ 39:12 he's like "and make em clap on 1 and 3"

  • 11:45 "Down in front!"

  • @miniges

What is that, somebody's hat, or a microphone?

  • Brian Dalton is amazing! I love Mr. Deity!

  • Good job Mr. Deity. I need to share this with my Mormon friend.

  • i liked seening thet episodes live..that was really good.

  • Loved it. What kind of camera was used?

  • @subconcioussongsvid one manned by a person incapable of keeping him in the center of the frame.

  • Mr. D is truly da man.

  • They gotta put Mr. Deity on NATIONAL TV PRIME TIME SPECIAL!

  • @moonlightbateman

Something coming from nothing is not in fact a scientific impossibility.

A couple of videos back, Lawrence Krauss explains why.

  • @transfixedtornado: While religion is out there comforting millions, it is also terrorizing millions of children, telling them that they will burn in hell forever if they're bad, scarring them for life. You may think this too gruesome to be true, but I was one of those children. I am 43, and my mind tells me that there is no god, but I still get really scared when I think about death. I guess I'm like Mark Twain, who said, "I don't believe in God, but I'm afraid of him."

  • yes, it is not right to terrorize children. I choose to be firmly against that myself.

We need to be alert to these things - science changes when it makes mistakes too.

When we learn more about how we work and who we are. we can start to treat each other better.

    Does that somehow contradict spirituality?

    I don't think so.

  • @transfixedtornado "Spirituality", no. Religion, yes.

  • i think all religions are aware of the problem of "institutionalisation" that you are probably referring to here.

I think most people would like to have an alternative to that.

But that's just a gradual change because we know better - not the end of "religion".

  • You mentioned science changing with new information... There is no "new" religious information, so changing the "unchangable" would be not only stupid, but more fraudulent than the basic religions themselves. There is no room for superstitious non-sense in the world, institutionalized or not.

  • This is how you would like things to be because your intention is to discredit religion.

Most religions are far more flexible.

A "superstitious nonsense world" is something you are inventing because you seem to belief everything is identical to its scientific explanation- world is not sufficiently cared for by calculating your way through equations however- it is made up of the reality you are dealing with. How are you going to create the world in the next moment - what are you going to do?

  • Religion has discredited itself. And please name a religion that is flexible with it's beliefs. "Most" religions are definately not flexible in any way.

And what is your superstitiously nonsensical explanation for everything? By the way, I am not "inventing" anything. That is you. I'm just calling you idiots on your bullshit.

I am going to do whatever the thousands of chemical reations in my body have me do. In any case, I am unaffected by anything supernatural.

  • you are just an illusion of yourself - your brain is an empty shell full of firing neurons.

I don't think there's anyone in there to talk to

All just little resonant neuro loops.

And then the matter with properties goes and argues with me! LOL :o)

  • lol, It is a bit of a mind fuck...

  • The "scriptures" may not change, but the church isn't this way because it says so in the bible, it grew over the centuries and millenia with the people who believed and their cultural contexts.

In the last 50 years "the spirit" wasn't fast enough to catch up with developments - We seem compelled to take ourselves out of the equations and just trust in maths.

The church is like a biosphere, it can be destroyed it with your ignorant science polutants if you're fast enough, just like the rainforest

  • Religion is like a building on stilts by a river. Science is erosion. DO THAT MATH!!!

  • If I may respond with another metaphorical construct that implies another answer to the same question -

Science can erode away religion like Led Zeppelin can erode away a toaster oven.

    :)

  • ...

Play it loud enough and maybe you could disrupt the molecules of the toaster oven.

    BOOM!

  • yes, if YOU PLAY it loud... like REALLY REALLY REALLY LOUD :)

  • I have a feeling Krakatowa would have nothing on that. I have a feeling that it would not only make you instantly deaf, but it would probably liquify your brain.

  • But, you could make Led Zeppeling sing - "toaster ovens are stupid, you press the switch and then they don't work because the cable isn't plugged in" and make everything look really absurd! :)

  • Quite Monty Python....

  • Exactly. Led Zeppelin would rock that toasters FACE OFF!

  • drugs bring comfort too does it make it right? Stop being a coward accept the truth, you chicken shit.

  • @bumfire007 Well, it doesn't make them wrong either. But it is still cowardly to do drugs, cling to God, etc. because you fear life and death.

  • Mr Deity Rocks!!!

  • Comment removed

  • He sure does

    BIG G

  • Richard dawkins should definetively make a cameo on mr deity show!

  • Wow, he has a great speaking presence. Great presentation.

  • Nice,

  • At 28:21 there's a laugh that is either Penn Jillette or someone eerily like him.

  • nope... no... i was this close... but nope. nah. no. not even sorry... just no

  • Brilliant!!!! - Love in particular the show around 41 min...

  • Love to see God out of character. Wish we could have got glimpses of the other actors...and OH! I always thought there was loads of chemistry between God and Lucy. Belated congrats!

  • Sorry for misterdeity, I wouldn't have put it so rudely if I would have realized you'd be reading these comments. Maybe your style appeals to American audience better. Seinfeld was more of an American thing also.

  • Comment removed

  • HAHAHA

  • So, come by, we'll have a cup o' coffee and chat. You'll end up loving me. I know it!

  • Really, who doesn't love Mr Deity? The only way I can describe it is: It's like the bible meets Seinfeld.

  • This is how my manager needs to pitch it. B

  • I never thought I'd find anything on YouTube as entertaining as this. It practically pitches itself. Keep up the brilliance. :)

  • Are you really Mr deity?? I sent this link to my father, a mormon, and said that you reminded me of him. He sent me a full page defense of mormanism in response... not all bad though because he prefaced it with the thought that he appreciated that I felt I could share it with him. This resulted in a reply about science and reason of course, but you should know that you have given me a vehicle with which I can have a discourse with my father on things - in a relaxed way.

  • you just gained a new sub, Mr D(evil) :p

    the show sounds awesome

  • You know the feeling when there's a guy who posts stuff you just cant' stand for some reason? Basaltq is one of them. He just seems so full of himself judging others its annoying as hell. Maybe he's a nice guy when you get to know him, but the first impression from his post is so off-putting.

  • 9:04 That seems familiar! XD

  • Been subscribed to them for a while. Nice series.

  • I loved the star trek reference XD

  • Mr. Deity is subscribed to me :D

Its amazing... thank you Mr. Deity, great Conference

  • HAHAHA CELINE DION LOL!

  • New caddy? Wear'n'tear?

This appeals to my sense of humor.

  • lol "error bars"

    yum

  • God-"Show him the pictures."

    Adam-"I'm in."

Story of our lives right there, haha.

  • "And here's a shot from the rear." ;)

  • I'm in!

  • education is the best way to know your common sense, but for ppl who are so fucking!!!!!!!closed minded....they believe in god and yet....the school they go to is fucking easy...trust me....but the discipline is harsh. all the questions you answer is always god or something to do with god....who made the plant? god did it, who made the roads? god did it...im so fucking tired of these egotistical fools. Educate yourself. god is not going to save us when a catastrophy comes by.

  • you know i was thinking something like this last night, how it would be so easy to just say God does and makes everything. i went through a fit of laughter at the idea. just think about it. it's so simple to answer everything with God, very simple minded indeed. basically you can replace 'God' with 'I don't know', it's very interchangeable.

  • I knew from the show that you were intelligent and educated. Its interesting to hear your views when youre out of character. Very thoughtful.

I agree youre doing great things, making people think and question and laugh!

  • you say that noboby well equilabrate would do kill of honor well here in quebec a few moth ago four of five girls were kill for the same reason so no it happen the guy with his son killed those womwn in ontarion but they were from montreal just next door of if and how grotestec it was it gave me the propultion to kill them back if it was not for my strong moral value

  • What language is that?

  • Its nice to see satire's but i didnt think i would ever see something like that on an AAI meeting. How about some hollywood stars while your at it? I mean every atheist has a story and if your running story's might of wel make a real impact with somewhat big calliber stars. The satire's that the new athiest's all watch nowadays are edward current's. Mr Deity might not be enough to question oneself. Its certainly entertaining if your allready are an atheist. imho.

  • Damnit Jimbo

  • This was great! I was especially impressed by Mr D's statements in the couple of minutes starting at 44:15

  • Official English translation ...not the Very first translation I think the very first translation was by John Wycliffe, however the King James version was the first "official" English translation....

  • Go Mr. Deity! Thanks for the great presentation!

Keep up the great work! -EMF

  • Many do not even realize they are following a Bible that was revised by King Henry so he could bang a different woman....

  • Don't you mean King James? I think he was after King Henry and ofc after Queen Elisabeth.

  • The King James Bible was translated into English and it was the first english bible, however the English version of the King James Bible holds the "adjustments" to the Bible by king Henry....So King Henry Changed the Bible so he could divorce his wife, and the King James version was translated into english with King henrys revisions....

    Is this more clear?

  • whats up with the audience, is he in Germany?

  • Full of himself? I don't see that at all.

  • @SLRL1A1

Ofcourse he`s full of himself. He`s God.

  • I used to be mormon too, lol.

I left church about 2-3 years ago and they are still calling me and sending missionaries/home teachers to my house xD haha

  • hmmm...I am kind of torn from being thoughtfully supportive of this Mr. Deity theatre and from being more honest to say that this pales compared to the gently courageous creativity of the ol' Monty Python troupe. Humour is important in all communities and that I am certain that this Mr. Deity may serve well in someone's home. Forgive my critical trespasses.

  • mr. Dd

  • 21:00 to find the theist web site responsible for immoral stoning of women and supporting that idea, google:

"critics of the bible must be careful not to impose"

  • farvision

    Thanks for posting that!

I was curious and wanted to look it up too, so thank you for the tip.

  • you're welcome! using google is like learning to type or ride a bike ...

  • Are you fucking kidding me!!!

Washington was a deist who drafted a treaty with Tripoli, which specifically stated the United States was in no way founded on Christianity.

Jefferson flatly called Christianity nonsense and the wishful thinking of weak-minded people!

I'll give you Bush & Reagan, but I wonder about Reagan's sincerity.

If you are going to make pronouncements about the positions of former Presidents you should get your facts straight!

  • Even IF a president WAS Christian, this does not imply that they were necessarily "good". Bush would be the most recent example of blatant stupidity. Palin could have been another.

  • hyperseauton, if you really think Jefferson was a Christian - then you clearly know NOTHING about the man. If you read the Jefferson bible - you'll see he removed all references to any supernatural activity. He openly said that the virgin birth was as possible as Athena bursting forth from Zeus's head. I suggest you do some more research lest you continue to look ignorant.

  • hypersauton: Shame on you for displaying such blatant ignorance. You must have gotten your education in sunday school....lololol

  • roflmao, I'll give you a quote that summarizes it all: "When I make a campaign, I never make it for intelligent people. Intelligent people, there is about 5% to 6%. I do campaigns for idiots and I get my votes in large amounts." -Georges Frêche

  • excellent quote. another:

"Just think of how stupid the average person is, and then realize half of them are even stupider." George Carlin.

  • obama used that same strategy and it worked very well

  • Jefferson- NOT A CHRISTIAN!

  • HE'S TAMPERIN IN DORKSIDED STUFF

  • You're correct.... It seems that Jefferson was a Christian as a young man and as he grew up he was conflicted by the teaching of the Church...He did extensive research and found that the Nazarene's precepts were "the most pure, benevolent, and sublime which have ever been preached to man."

So Jefferson rejected the "Christian Teachings
