Hate all you want but the movie versions of the songs, new & old, are what are going to be remembered by the public. I did like the original show version............but the Film will always be thought of first.
Please, help me!!!! How and where can i watch Grease with this original cast?? I refuse to watch the movie, haha... Please, if someone knows tell me... Thanks a lot
@MissusFingerBottom Good luck - the stage version has been HEAVILY censored and revised to reflect the movie. No "fuck"s and "shit"s, and no "Alone At The Drive In Movie" or "All Choked Up".
@MissusFingerBottom Oh yeah, it was definitely an R-rated affair. Next year in Chicago, they're actually reviving the FIRST stage version, which was for adults only, and had *none* of the familiar songs - instead, they had songs like "Boogie Man Boogie" and "Kiss It" that were never used again. God, I can't wait.
@NyeTunes I went to go see it, but they cancelled the show that night. Since we were in Chicago for only that night they let us watch the rehersal, meet the cast, and even meet Jim Jacobs, them man who wrote this play based off the real people he knew as a kid.
incredible night. There is so much about the show we didn't know about. Originally "Kenickie" was the new guy in the group: young and foolish. No he didn't own a car. That was Miller, Danny's best friend and right hand man.
@NyeTunes My high school is doing a more (but not completely) original stage version: edited for language, but no "You're the one that I want" or "hopelessly devoted to you", and "All alone at the drive in" and "All choked up" are back in. And before you say "oh, its just a crappy high school version", give the kids a chance :) our theater program is a little above average
@trooptpt80 My old high school did a version that most resembles the original stage version. Not a word has been edited out. NOT. ONE. WORD. Honestly, when I saw it, I thought it made all other high school productions of GREASE look like, well, high school productions of GREASE.
I hear the man voice more. Both the movie and the original cast were good. I like both of them. They are different in various things but they are both really good.
i like this guy... the girl doesn't match the interpretation i feel in this song, but it was really good
oh and elgatogarcia032678, Travolta was not the origonal. This was actually the origonal. The movie was based off this play. my school's doing it this year.
As to the microphones: If you look at the description, this wasn't actually from a production of the show, but some "reunion" deal years later. So, I doubt the mikes were an actual part of the original staging (although they could have been, I don't know, I don't see Grease as being quite that 'alternative' though), but rather just something for this standalone performance (which also explains the very non-Grease-ish set they're on. That's my explanation, anyway.
The reason they used hand held mic's is because the play takes place in the Rock and Roll era. If you look at the original script the show was actually written so that Danny, Sandy, Doody, and the rest of the gang turn into "Rock & Roll Stars" when they break out into song.
I think its very different and creative. My High School director played Danny on Broadway in the late 70's early 80's and decided to use them in our production of Grease. I thought it was a cool addition to the show =]
Huh. Well, I stand corrected. Interesting, I didn't know the OBC did it that way.
That's cool having a director with that kind of experience, though. Lucky to have gotten to work with someone who's done that, clearly not many people have.
I don't understand: people are saying that they needed microphones like that because there weren't any cordless mikes back then. But we know for a fact that's not true, there are lots of videos of broadway performers singing without handhelds that were taken before this year. Oh well, I don't suppose anyone really knows why they did it this way.
Depending on when Barry Bostwick and Carole Demas were on Broadway. I may have seen them on Broadway as Danny Zuko and Sandy Drumbowski. I was visiting NYC and went to see Grease on Broadway in October 1975. Anyone know when the 2 were actually on Broadway? If so, please let me know. Thank You Very Much in Advance. :)
1985? 13 years ago? This is early 1972!!! Barry Bostwick created the role. Travolta was in the cast as was Jeff Conaway and Adriane Barbeau. And I was sweeping up at the back of the Eden Theater.
But i LIKE how they make it there own and not how they sang it in the movie version cuz the same thing with Derek Keeling in the revival of Grease when he replaced Max in the song Summer Nights he try to put that hih voice and im like OH-GOD! can u make it ur own
Wow, this was great! Thanks for posting it. I LOVE Barry B, and it is really nice to see Carol Demas in this role. She was one of the girls on the childrens program "The Magic Garden" that aired in the Ny area I believe, for many years starting in the 7o's I think.
Hey Barry- Pretty fancy footwork...Do you know how to madison? LOL
Carol- "It's nice to say Hello..Hello!..and how do ya do! "
We are doing our production of Grease like the original Broadway cast, using Wire Mics and everything, I wasnt conviced it could work, but after watching this, im sure itll be fine.
