CHIs or Closed Head Injuries can often have no immediate symptoms, but after an hour you could suddenly die. Yup, never think its just a headache. That is why EMTs plead with people to get checked out just in case - because until you see an MRI/CT scan you really just don't know.
I thought you weren't supposed to hold someone down if they're having a seizure. I thought you were supposed to move things out of the way in case they hit them during the seizure, and not to hold them down in case you hurt them even more?
At 1:03 we see the girl pick up the ball which could have been a real softball..then it cuts to Nicki talking.
The few seconds between her picking up the softball and her throwing the softball when the cam shows Nicki talking, she could have gotten handed a white nerf softball to be thrown.
The girl probably would have not been directed to throw a real softball to Nikki's head for the re-enactment...that would have her in the hospital all over again.
I think in the actual situation-not the re-enactment, the ball was not aimed at her head but was thown in her direction and accidently hit her head when no one could have known the ball could hit her.
During the re-enactment shown, I am guessing they could not miss the ball hitting her head, so they had to throw the ball straight at her head.
Had they missed the throw to her head, there would be another take or 2 to get the ball thown right. So they had to throw the ball right.
This segment shows how lucky this girl was. People play down head injuries of all kids & too often people die. You may SEEM fine for a while but after that crucial time passes, your chances go down.
Take Natasha Richardson for example. She refused help feeling what she thought was a "simple headache" & a beautiful life is gone. I partly blame the resort, they should have demanded she atleast get a check up & she might be here today.
kaylee and other people talking about the throw and if it was a accident. God people this is all ACTED OUT this time around. It wasn't actual footage.. sigh...come on people THINK.
Ok really, we aren't getting this slow are we people it was a reenactment....lol what u saw isn't how it really looked when it really happened.. sigh... reading some posts just make you wonder if people think before they type.
it just ticks me off that people don't realize this is a reenactment. Okay, I don't get that ticked off but that's like believing an actor really died in a movie. (if you were that clueless). I'm not calling anyone dumb here but c'mon, stop jumping into any conclusions right away before you say something.
I think she rushed her throw. I don't think she saw her right when she passed her and her mind was on the ball. I think she didn't intentionally did it on purpose, your mind can be focus on one thing that something else happens that you just don't think about it until it happens
I thought that would apply if the person if having a seizure somewhere where they could get hurt unrestrained, like in the walkway inside a schoolbus.
you people do realize that this was a reenactment and that it might have actually looked a little different in real life...oh and cinderella is not real.....and E.T. didn't actually exist....
That nurse is an idiot. Firstly light will not dilate pupils, but make them constrict. Secondly a kid having a seizure directly after being struck in the head is NOT normal. Epileptic or not, you should err on the side of caution and assume it is a direct result of the blow. I hope I never find myself under her care.
Pupils will fail to dilate if someone has brain damage. That's one of the ways we can tell brain trauma is evident. A common sign of brain damage is one pupil fixed and dilated while the other remains pinpoint.
You're right about pupils constricting when you shine light on them. The nurse probably said 'dilate' but meant 'react to light.' Another sign of brain trauma is pupils that don't react when you shine light on them.
I too am a Paramedic. I agree that pupillary response can be altered in the presence of a head injury, especially in late stages where extremely increased intracranial pressure can cause the brain to herniate through the base of the skull. What I was commenting on was this nurse's apparent idiotic ability to casually brush off this child's seizure as being merely epilepsy. Also, she failed to recognize the child's abnormal behaviour post-trauma. Should have called EMS.
yeah your right, we had to learn about the nervous system and if there is no reaction to light their is possible brain damge especially when the temple are hit., great example is phineas gage for eplespy and derek bently..
at my daughter's softball game a few years ago, a kid walked into a practicing player's swing zone (he was up to bat next and was taking practice swings.) the kid took a full force back swing to the face. blood flew and it was horrible. luckily, the ball park in maytown pa is directly between the ambulance station and the fire company so they got him off to the hospital fast. kids need to learn to pay better attention!
My neighbor wendy spencer, her husband and two boys were hiking in the mountains in Idaho and her husband slipped and fell down a mountain for a long time and they thought he was dead but he thankfully survived but i had remember they ended up on this show and it would be awsome if you had it! but i dont remember the title of the episode.
Are you sure this was Rescue 911 and not another show? I've seen almost every episode, and I know what happens in the ones I haven't seen, and I've never heard of that one.
they did, it was a reanactmint. all they did was use sound effects they reenact it cause there was noooo way cameras were there at the real scene duuuhhhh!!!!!!!
yes, mostly because this is just a re-enactment (not sure if i spelled that right). but its not the real video, and it does look like she did it on purpose.

Are you sure? I saw this segment when it was originally run and, watching this, I don't remember any part being cut out. Which part are you talking about?
I don't think anything was cut. This version of the segment was recorded from CBS (although it was a repeat that aired in 1995, the original aired in 1993).
That's what I thought. Pelsock is probably thinking about another similar segment, with someone getting hit in the head or with a blonde-haired girl that weaers glasses. No idea which one it would be, though, as it's been years since I watched Rescue 911.
well apparently softballs aren't really um soft.and she got hit so hard that it knocked her out cold and gave her brain mixed signals ans she had a seizer
ya, it hit her temple. really bad place to get hit. the temple is really sensitive and that is what causes this to happen. hit on both sides and she'd have been dead
This was so weird. It looked like she aimed right for her. What kind of throw was that for someone who is supposed to KNOW how to play ball since they're on a team!
That kid should get in trouble for throwing that ball. Its obvious that it was no accident. She had every intention of hitting that little girl in the head.
If you get hit in the head by a ball reay hard you should always go to th ER immediatley. Because you never know what might happen, even if you think you are alright.
HarryGobbleCock writes "I lost it at 1:05. hahahahaha." There is nothing funny about this. You wouldn't be laughing if it happened to you. This is why I never liked conventional sports. They're dangerous, and I don't even see what is fun about throwing a ball around. Of course the guys made fun of me in PE class, and the teacher wasn't much better. But it is not enjoyable to me to play football, baseball, soccer, basketball, or tennis. Bowling is ok, but the rest are silly to me.
That's hurts. That girl was lucky to live through the ordeal. I got hit in the head by a hockey puck in the stands during an NHL game. I was lucky it was a ricochetted puck. I had to have stitches for my head though.
CHIs or Closed Head Injuries can often have no immediate symptoms, but after an hour you could suddenly die. Yup, never think its just a headache. That is why EMTs plead with people to get checked out just in case - because until you see an MRI/CT scan you really just don't know.

They had to make sure the ball hit her head so that's why the girl aimed for her head..
In the real incident the ball probably hit her when no one else could have predicted it would happen. Freak accidnt.
happy7117 2 years ago
I think she purposely aimed for her head so she wouldn't miss...
In the actual incident, she probably never aimed for her head.
But for the re-enactment, they had to make sure her head got hit by the softball like it did in the real incident....
Plus- it very well could have been a Nerf softball-

xxxViiKatexxx 3 years ago
dat was a very bad throw!! WOW! she should've threw the ball when she gets to position!
LaosXAllison 3 years ago 4
this is very retarded, why the other girl threw the bar in her direction?
seploud 3 years ago
they just wanted to show that she clearly got hit wit the ball happens.cause i hope u know its tru but this isnt the real thing
lacross385 3 years ago
yeah i know, what i mean to say is that the Reenactment is very bad, the way they show the accident in a way that it looks like it was intentional
seploud 3 years ago
yeah, but they couldn't do it any other way.

Dude, shut up, that's not even funny,
How would you feel if that happened to you?
iggy64 3 years ago
Embarrassed that they made a reenactment so stupid/hilarious.

That girl that hit the ball on her head should be kicked out of the team.
Melmonkey89 3 years ago
That's hurts. That girl was lucky to live through the ordeal. I got hit in the head by a hockey puck in the stands during an NHL game. I was lucky it was a ricochetted puck. I had to have stitches for my head though.
