  • I just want to say thank you for taking the time to make and post your tutorial videos. I learned a lot! (will upload some vids later) Saludos desde Texas!

  • @Emmycontamboo nice! pleae keep me posted on your progress! take care

  • nate the lessons r great . i live in new jersey if u r in the area do u give private lessons

  • Conguero73, if you think you're a better teacher, grow some and post a video, carajo!

  • Awesome Nate - thanks so much for breaking it down and allowing people like me to be able to understand how to play this rhythem. Thanks again man! ;)

  • Look into listening to more Los Munequitos, yoruba andabo etc. It is good that you are donating your time to share what you love. It looks like you are a straight ahead player but it looks as though you are not utuilizing the other hand(left hand slap) to create more "chambo" Learn Habana and Manticedo and work on describing them both and the different nuances. You sit a little low, maybe sit a inch or so higher, it might help a little. Hand look pretty good. Need to work on your swing. Nice.

  • How ignorant some people are!! I think the lessons are fantastic!!

  • Thank you Nate for your videos; they are very helpful. I'm glad that you're not paying attention to "congero73". Like you said Nate, he's a poser and I say he's a hater.

@congero73, "conguero" asi se escribe, no estas en nada, how many videos you have on youtube showing techniques. GET A LIFE HATER.

  • Saludame a la huelepinga de tu vieja

  • @congero73

It is obvious that you are jealous of Nate and ignorant at that. Everybody knows you're acting a fool.

  • "I am a Puerto Rican, New York Born"??!

  • @congero73 pahah, son you're such a poser. You talk all this mess but I dont see anything of you up here, you even deleted your channel or blocked me? lol, now whose gay? Keep the comments coming though because its hilarious and its entertaining me as I do my homework

  • My son is getting a set of congas for Christmas and I'm looking forward to the day he can play them for real. I will definitely be showing him your videos... They're brilliant! I love, love, love seeing young people who are passionate about Latin music. Keep up the good work and God bless!

  • @EllehMayo thanks a lot!...wish your son well, and just encourage him to practice his hardest!

  • hey nate wasup man. i like ur style i think ur very good. 1 ? tho, on the guaguanco, y has the bass hit on the 2nd clave hit been taken out by the puerto rican percussionists? im just curious especially since no1 can seem 2answer that 4me. i been learnin from cuban players n they all use the bass on the 2nd hit of the rumba clave. anyway, maybe u can shed some light on that1. look fwd 2more lessons from u. thanx bro!

  • @leo2mona check out my lesson 9 and tell me if that doesnt do it the way your talking about?...Its just simple variations that people do

  • Ha ha, hey man, good stuff! I learned a different way to play guaguanco and modified it with my left hands heel/toes and mine sounds just like yours! :)

I'm excited to see your previous videos. I wish more people would get into latin percussion.

  • lets get a dialog going

  • hey nate how about taking a trip here to naples where there are just old white people, mexicans, and one PR me, I need your help and could use some private lessons?

  • @empesando09 haha...i would if it wasnt way too far away

  • mmm too precise.

  • EXCELENTE !!!!!!!!

  • 6/5!

  • Hi Nate

Man I can't tell you how good it is to have someone like you out there. I for one cannot afford classes and bro you are the Bomb! I have learned all the hits (tones) from you Now I am trying to play rhythms. My only problem is I can't seem to tune my congas. They don't quite sound like your's . Could it be they are new? Keep it up.

    God Bless

    Drum on........

  • That is great to hear! Im glad I could be of so much help...but there are different factors that could be contributing to the difference in sound i.e. drums, skins, brands, tuning techniques etc...hope this helps

  • Best way I've seen to learn Guaguanco! However I'm used to toe/heel/toe instead of finger/slap/finger. I hope it's not too different. It's just what I'm used to. Any feedback on that? Anyway , Gracias Nate. Dale duro.

  • Thanks nate Your videos encourage others to play and keep alive our latin rithums. keep out the good work Bro...

  • sweet man nice teaching style. would you happen to know the traditional 6/8 afro cuban rhythm im trying to figure it out

  • Nate these videos are the great. I started watching them last year. Now I bought my set of congas, and play with two diffrent bands!!! you're the best bro, thanx a lot!!!

  • man thats great to hear...I still have yet to find a band to play in! lol

  • Man.... very helpful... thanks you very much......

  • not a problem...i love doin it

  • Hey brother,

Your lessons are so helpful and has kept me practicing over and over, lol.

    Your the best!

  • great to her!...keep it up

  • Nate keep up the great work, Your Lessons are very good I am enjoying practicing my tones, and my tumbao is coming along, looking foward to practicing with two drums and then moving on to the guaguanco. Nate you have given me a reason to live. lol :) just kidding. Remember Nate there will always be haters, F..k them. Peace.... and much thanks.

  • Thats wzup man...hope they can help you more and yea i know there are always haters...but from experience i already know that the ones that hate are the ones that know the least...but keep doin your thing bro!

  • Great lesson. Nate, thanks for making it easy to follow, learn, and practice.

  • great to hear! let me know if i can be of any more help

  • Comment removed

  • haha this looks a bit harder than the salsa rhythm but it sounds good! man ive checking out your stuff for a while haha! would love to practice this rhythm but i have only one conga and no tumba :/! ill practice it when i go to guitar center haha. been practicing on my tones and been playing for about 3 months haha. love these videos man

  • how that practice coming along??? Able to get another conga to practice?

  • AWESOME!!! Funny, I knew the rhythm as a whole but not playing it (i.e the 1-and-and pattern)

    Can you add mozambique?

  • Hey Nate, these are great lessons, really clearly and patiently explained, much appreciated.

I'm curious about the left hand, and how much to focus on hitting the bass hits with the whole hand - ie at what tempo players start to alternate heel-fingers instead of hand-fingers. It seems to be necessary when playing at higher speeds but the feeling is totaly different, less fat I guess. wha'happpen?

  • very important is the BASS note you are Missing in the second note of the clave!!!

  • sorry, not sure what u are speaking of...mind you there are tons of different ways to play guaguanco and none are the "correct" way

  • si asere, many ways of playing guaguanco, but if you refer to guaguancó Cubano tradicional, then you need to teach it traditionally and that´s not the way.Learn the basics first

  • I never referred to it as "tradicional" and thank you I do know the basics. I definitely am not the best player, however, I do know what I am talking about. And if you feel so strongly about my videos then you can easily post your own to show the "correct" way that you so much proclaim to know. Thank you

  • also, if you listen I said this is the EASIEST way to play it not the "traditional" and if you look at the next video (#9), then you will see that there I show it the TRADITIONAL way which is a little harder!

  • Nate you are great! I will like to see you add another camera so we can see you strike the skin from a different angle. It's confusing to follow you when we are watching you from the front angle. As you can imagine i am a beginner and trying to follow you to the t. "Ache pa ti"

  • I love your way of teaching. Can you tell me How did you tune your drum. (Tumba - Conga - Quinto) C E G?, G C E?

It's a good idea to make another Conga tuning lesson.

    Cheers,

  • Thanks a lot, but I actually do not tune them to any specific tone...I just do them by ear!

  • I play congas and and also an avid drumset player, and I just learned the guaguanco on the drumset, and its cool to learn the same rhythm on both instruments!

  • cool man...hope this helps

  • just wanna let you know there's all kinds of conga lessons on the internet, but yours is the best! in just a few days, I've got the basic tumbao down;) and I'm starting your guaguanco lesson today.

just one thing might help if you can list the strokes in the description so we can memorize easier...had to watch in slomo to get them all (I think). seems it's OhohfohfOfhfsfhf with the upper case strokes played on the low drum.

keep up the great work! thanks again!

  • thanks a lot for your compliments, and Im sorry about not saying the strokes, but these rhythms do get a lot harder and I dont want to continue showing it so barney style...the first tumbaos should be like that for beginners but eventually you should be able to pick up the sounds, which will make you a WAY better percussionist trust me!...Thanks and hope to hear more positive from you in the future!

  • u make great videos can you make a video with examples of diffrent transition movements.thanks

  • lol...

i mean I'm not sure what your looking for

  • Hola Nate, gracias for the guanguanco! I have been looking forward to learning this pattern, as it is mixed in a lot with salsa musica. So yeah, now I can play basic the basic Tumbao pattern with variations, and the basic rumba pattern as well... which is great! I have been dancing salsa for years, but now can also accompany the musica for all my amigos to dance to... which is muy bien :)

  • Aaaahhhhh sh*t.... My man is back with La Bomba!!! Yo Nate this is what I've been waiting for... Good looking out..

Pa' lante loco.. keep it up...

  • I hope so too. My girlfriend doesn't ;-) Me playing the Conga really makes her freaking out. And now I got something new to work on. I hope my relationship can stand the Guaguanco. If not I have to bring the Congas too our dance-studio ;-)
