I was there. The line up was Molly Hatchet, The Babys, AC/DC and Cheap Trick. I remember the Babys being boo-ed off stage. Angus came out into the crowd on someones shoulders and the place went crazy. All tickets were General addmission and sold for 12 dollars (I have the stub). There were about 70,000-80,000 people in attendance. Many came to see Cheap Trick but left AC/DC fans. Does anyone have photos, video, or more sound recordings of this concert? I want more.
@edzackery1 This was not recorded at Pecatonica, IL the show you reference above. Although it was a great show (I have pictures of Bon with Angus on his shoulders) and the local newspapers, Rockford IL and Freeport IL both had aerial shots of the crowd estimated to be 40,000. Put in a youtube search for Rockford News 1979 and you will find a news clip regarding one of the greatest rock shows. The clip was recorded at Sioux Falls, three days later on 7/7/79,
The only time I saw AC/DC was when they were a warm up band for Cheap Trick and Ted Nugent was the headliner. Went both nights at Seattle Center Coliseum (key area now). I think it was in 79.
Cheap Trick? I've heard this one before. But then it was said that it was AC/DC (Bon, Angus, Mal...etc.). But this is really Bon and Cheap Trick then??
this was at the pecatonica fair grounds in illinois on july 15, 1978. i was there and saw the whole thing. ac/dc opened the show, and this was the first time in almost a year that ct had been this close to their home town. needless to say it was a PARTY. robin had graciously left the stage to watch one of his heroes perform with his band only to return quickly as bon was too drunk to finish.
Excellent!
Cheers from Canada!
