Evans talks about the numbers game...Such were the holes opened up in the Racak case by Milosevic during his trial that the ICTY dropped all charges against the other Serbian leaders when their trial started in 2006 in relation to the so called slaughter....
Evans takes slimeball to the level of caricature, it's incredible. Chomsky caused quite a stir when he came to Australia and ripped into the Australian government involvement in the East Timor deal - replays on national TV etc etc. followed by much hand-wringing and fingernail staring by the Honorable Mr Evans - with no consequences for his career or a jail sentence.
@vontswiristein11 Evans used to lead the International Crisis Group...this is an NGO that has pursued a political agenda on Kosovo's political status supportive of the pro Kosovo Albanian lobby and Western interests (that also supports Kosovo independence)...it has been consistently anti Serb...I want to do a Phd thesis on this.
What makes it so hard for press is the editors. Everything comes down to the editors. When the editors of newspapers/tv-news have the final say on what articles are printed, and what spin is put on them, you end up with a very easy way to control the press. Historically leaders controlled their populations through violent persecution. But in the West where this is not possible, the populations are controlled through what information they get.
It is depressing. How it will change .. I dont knkow
I think one of the nice aspects of Chomsky's responses has been his focus on what the press, the very audience he is addressing, can do, and do better. It's not clear to me that the folks in the room will be happy to hear that they are failing, or at least that their colleagues are failing - but they still need to hear it. Thanks for posting this.
3:45 Kapow!! chomsky is fantastic, Evans has got serious issues of moral inconsistency - check out his role in supporting genocide and the robbery of East Timor: check out John Pilger's "Suharto, the model killer, and his friends in high places"
Look at Chomsky's face around 4:00 when Evans tries to counter Chomsky's ownage! hahaha!!!

Notice how Chomsky wants to look at Gareth Evans when he says "there are analogies".
