  • my fuel pump does the same wineeeeeeeee

  • @88rex1 Big pumps are loud. :-) Mine is rubber mounted, but at the time this video was filmed I had not put the interior back in the car. Now with the Dynamat and full interior it's just a slight hum inside the car.

  • I thought you were not allowed to run open exhaust at Sparta.....

  • @midgetmayo I don't think that they do.

  • Lol @ 5.0s and us in 1.3s :)

  • idk if you still read these, but did you do the apex upgrade to the larger 3mm apex seals?

  • @vdub2002 I'm running Atkins 2MM apex seals. 3MM really isn't much of an upgrade because they are only marginally stronger, don't seal as well, and the machining needed on the rotors damages the groove that is hardened at the Mazda factory. Really the only reason to go to 3MM seals is if the rotors are already 3MM (older 13B/12A) or the rotors are too worn to accept 2MM seals.

  • @aaroncake

I have an S4 block in my 89 GXL, and I've been resisting the urge to turbo it due to high compression. It's street ported and N/A isn't slow at all (surprising i know!).

Just wondering since it does run rich in the low end could I run 6-8psi and not need a EMF, maybe just rtek?

  • @vdub2002 At 6-8 PSI, an RTek would do just fine and you'd probably see a 50 HP gain. But the compression on the S5 engine is 9.7:1, which is pretty high for an ECU that only gives you basic controls, so you'd want to stick to low boost (assuming stock HT-18).

  • hahaha I love the commentary on the mustang.

  • loose your buddy that will make the car go faster =p jk

  • aaron............i have talked to you before and i got to say.........................your site is amazing!!! all the work you did to get this thing to where it is now. i am going to start out like you did and see where it takes me. what is the max amount of boost that you pushed at the track in this video?

  • @bluerotary22 Just 13PSI, which puts down a little more than 400HP at the wheels. The issue here is primarily traction, or lack of it, caused by the 215 tires and open diff. An LSD took 0.5 seconds off my times, but the small tires just kept spinning. :-)

  • lol great video guys.....and u gotta loose the passenger lol are u using the stock turbo?

  • @badassalf As the description says, the turbo is a GT4088R.

  • @aaroncake we need to race

  • lol great video guys.....and u gotta loose the passenger lol

  • Way to cocky for such a slim win

  • nice car man no doubt

  • Just curios how much money you spent vs. the mustang. Seems like "too many mods to list" is quite expensive.

  • @MrJowee No, it just means "too many to list". I spent some money for sure, but much of the stuff I fabricated myself. The thing is, his car was modded too and on some cheater slicks. I just pulled up without a burnout on 215 street tires, botched the launch, screwed up the shift and was still faster without trying. :-)

  • i've seen your page and how much you have put into your car. i admire what you have done. now get a two way limited slip already! :)

  • what was the mph from your runs?

  • @ctgreddy I don't have the time slips in front of me now, but from memory, I am thinking between 175 and 185 KM/H at the end of the 1/4 mile.

  • What's the point of having a fast car when Its engine is the same size as a milk carton, it looks like crap and sounds like crap . yes its reasonably fast, but soo, every thing else is wrong with it

  • @beno7398 Everyone has their own tastes. I personally don't see any value in many of the cars that most others like, such as old muscle cars.

  • in response to the mustang criers.. 1.3liters. that is all.

  • you are mad epic!!!! much respect!!

  • Cool rx-7, i think I like the older models better myself too, My n/a maxima can run a 13.3, did you ever get that during any of the runs? And was the fox stang stock like these people claim it was?

  • got news for ya. a stock 5.0 and your braging about it? there not sposed to be fast stock I dont care if its a big block. You have bosst to his motor and you barley beaT HIM.race him when hes got boost then talk lol

  • no. ill say get some tires and LSD then make use of that GT4088R.

  • @ry1991ca You're missing the joke. I launched horribly, missed two shifts, had to back off due to wheel hop and only ran a 14.6. Yet it was still half a second faster then the modified 5.0 Mustang. That's where the funny is.

  • @aaroncake yea I got it. The only point I was making is that there not shit w out mods. stock they prolly only go 16s to 15s. mod um and they will suprise you however.

  • @ry1991ca At the drag strip, I don't worry too much about being slower then a car set up to run the 1/4 mile. Unlike those big block equipped drag cars with massive meats at the back, my car also turns and stops.

  • @aaroncake says:

"You're missing the joke. I launched horribly, missed two shifts, had to back off due to wheel hop and only ran a 14.6. Yet it was still half a second faster then the modified 5.0 Mustang. That's where the funny is. "

---Excuses for sucking dick. Your bark was substantially less than your bite. Grow up.

  • @launchpaad88 Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed. We were BS'ing with the Mustang owners all night, it was just all friendly banter. My former boss was there with his heavily modified Cobra. Though it is interesting that I had street tires, an open diff, shifted like a 16 year old and was still faster then almost every modded Mustang.

  • @aaroncake

When are you gong to stop telling us how much you suck and just let us watch your video and witness it?

  • @aaroncake that is funny bc a mustang 5.0 would kill that shit hahaha

  • You barley beat a stock 5.0

  • Yeah, but that's the joke. He had an exhaust, a nice set of tires and possibly some stuff under the hood. He also did a burnout and launched well. I on the other hand was on low boost, skinny 215s, no burnout, launched like an idiot, missed two shifts, had to let off due to wheel hop, only ran a 13.4, and still beat him. Therein lies the funny.

  • haha yeah I'm actually thinking about getting a Second gen rx7 but Like i don't know jack shit about Rotarys All i know is i love the looks of the FCS Figure I'd venture out of the domestics... I have a 94 SN95 and a 88 5.0 LX Rotarys have grown on me in the past few months.

  • I had a 5.0 and have an RX7 (FB) now. I would NEVER trade back.

  • @stangalltheway 1.3liter

  • Nice.

  • haha my friend has a mustang almost like that one, and i have an rx7 lol this exact same thing is goin to happen very soon :D

  • +1 on abusing 5.slows. The owners tend to be ignorant rednecks.

  • really nice car ..I'm wanting to get an rx7...looks like a hard shift to 2nd though...really jolts ...guess that's just powershifting for ya lol...but nice runs

  • Lazy shifting. 2nd gear on FCs is always a bit weird. The syncros wear out fast and even when they are in good shape, the shift is not always great.

  • Dude... nice car... I like those old RX7's. Should be excellent when you get an LSD... Times will be easily 12's. But seriously, that tyre spin you can "hear" when you changed into 4th was not your car, it's the next car in line doing a pretty lame burnout attempt. In the last run, you hear what sounds like clutch slip into 4th, which you have pointed out is traction loss, but no audible squeal.

What do you mean by TURBO-NA??? Isn't "NA" Naturally Aspirated, which of course a Turbo isn't NA?

  • As I was in the car, I watched the tach shoot towards redline when the passenger side tire let loose. Unfortunately with the poor quality of the video you can't see the wisp of smoke from the rear tires. The noise of my engine was drowned out by the guy doing the burnout. Don't worry about the clutch slipping because it was not. It's a copper 6 puck with an upgraded pressure plate. By "turbo NA" I mean an NA engine with a turbo added, as opposed to a TII swap.

  • sounds like your clutch is slipping going into 4th on that last run, cake.

  • That would be the open diff letting go. On the street it's a tire fire through 1st and 2nd, the traction in 3rd, then tire fire in 4th. :-)

  • Dude, i want to commend you on your amazing fab work. You have any suspension mods in mind??

  • Thank you! I took care of some of the suspension last spring. The car is running KYB AGX shocks and RB springs. I also upgraded the front brakes to 4 piston, used Hawk HPS pads all the way around and installed braided stainles brake lines. At some point I'll do the bushings as well.

  • nice

  • Comment removed

  • This car is a turbo 6 port, not just another TII swap.

  • OMG amazing full boost at 3500rpm "Drools" how much boost are we talkin here?

  • At the low boost setting I run 13 PSI. I have not raised the boost yet because honestly, just over 400HP is fast enough for now since I can't get traction.

  • oh. =]

  • clutch sounds weak.

  • It's nothing short of amazing that over all the background noise and the poor quality of the YouTube audio, you can hear the clutch to make a determination that it's "weak". The clutch is a brand new copper 6 puck. I'm shifting slowly in the hopes of maintaining traction.

  • Bye Bye Mr. Mustang... I love that.. My 4Port loves the Stang!!!

    Better Box LOL

  • Can't wait to see what it does with traction lol.

  • i have an extra diff from my rotbox parts car.

  • oh, and i enjoyed the commentary, it's a shame you cant have a passenger.

  • You skip the burn out and wonder why no traction??? the burn out isnt just for looks; thats why every drag racer does burnouts, except for jet powered

  • No point doing a burnout on the open diff. Until it's replaced with an LSD I'm not going to worry too much about drag times.

  • didnt they come with limited slip under the hood of mine only shows limited slip(oil specs)

  • If you are looking under the hood of your RX-7 for an LSD, try the other end of the car. ;-) The TII, GXL, GTUs, Sport and GTU (optional) came with LSD. As my car is technically a base model '86, it came with an open diff.

  • I dint say I was looking under the hood for the differential, I looked at the spec sticker for oil and it only showed for the limited slip

  • @96ekcivic

Good point, but this arrogant asshole probably has another excuse for that as well. The entire video this idiot couldn't keep his under-bitten jaw shut.

  • Are you still running on stock N/A compression? If you are thats a lot of PSI but it looks like its holding it well though. Nice car, would like to know more about your setup.

  • The car still runs the stock 9.4:1 S4 NA rotors, and 6 port block (though with some porting). Info can be found on my website. Google "aaroncake project tina". It's the 2nd hit.

  • nice rx7 but your shifting suck

  • The car spins the tires until 4th gear, so there's no point abusing the transmission until I get actually get the power to the ground. Next upgrade is replacement of the open diff.

  • u need slicks.lol

  • nice car we do it a bit diferent in Australia and im n/a all the way . good luck ..smoke those mustangs

  • KM/H

  • Just curious, what kind/size of tires were you using?

  • Sumitomo HTRZ II 215/45Z R17

  • he probably used six port side housings with turbo housings and rotors!

  • No. The entire block is S4 NA including the housings, irons and rotors.

  • @aaroncake

Seems you spent a little too much time dumping Daddy's money into your car instead of learning how to shift.

  • @launchpaad88 Daddy's money? No, actually I have this thing called a "job" and these other things called "investments", from which I get money I use to buy stuff and more "investments". I was shifting like a wuss as to not destroy the drivetrain and to try to keep some traction. Now I have a much stronger transmission as well as an LSD, so the next set of 1/4 mile videos I post should at least show some 12 second runs, if not high 11s (will be limited by tire).

  • @aaroncake

    More excuses...

  • @launchpaad88 Well I've read a lot on Aaron Cake car project, he is not only "dumping" a lot of money, but also a hell lot of time in that project. He's doing everything by himself. Even if he doesn't shift like a pro drag car driver, I would be ashamed not to respect him for the consistent quality in his built. Just for that fact he has some reason to be proud of kickin' some V8 ass with his long term 1.3 liter project.

  • @sterone

I'm not blaming him for not knowing how to shift, that is not my point. My point is that he continually has excuses for everything. Sometimes you need to man-up and say "I need more practice". But this faggot walks around saying "blah blah blah this is why I was't fast".

  • @launchpaad88 Learn the difference between an "explanation" and an "excuse". I'm simply explaining what is in the video. With an open diff, shifting hard just blows away the tires. Consider that I am able to pull 1.9 sec 0-60 times and 8.5 sec 1/8th mile times out of a car with an open diff, 215 tires and at that time, 400 RWHP. Hell, even with my LSD, the car just puts the tires up in smoke on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. And there's no need for the insults. You don't see me insulting you.

  • @aaroncake

AGAIN all you are doing is talking about how fast you can run and then you continue to tell us why you didn't run faster. Anything else new? Oh wait, you didn't run faster why? Just to make sure everyone understands.

  • @launchpaad88 Yes, that is exactly what I'm doing. I'm doing that so that people actually realize what is in the video and then don't make silly comments on their misunderstandings. Finally, you get it!

  • @launchpaad88 Well when there is a good explanation for something, it is no excuses. If your unable to understand what he's explaining to you, you may also need to man-up a little bit and accept that you are wrong by judging him.

Give the guy what he deserve by building a really powerful engine: Some due respect! He also need respect for answering you and your ignorant commentary even if you insult him. Calm down a bit and breathe dammit! Learn and respect that's it.

  • @sterone Thank you for the positive comments. Sadly, launchpaad88 seems far more interested in trolling and insulting then actually understanding what he is seeing in the video. There are always people like that out there, and YouTube seems to concentrate them. Some need to understand that drag racing is not just about flooring the pedal and holding on, but knowing how to actually drive within the capability of the car, especially the tires, and the track.

  • would you tell me your references to how you did the na to turbo? im havin trouble findin some help

  • Very nice,I've never seen such extensive mods on a six port engine,as far as I know they aren't too popular.I'm working on a 13b from a mazda cosmo that's to be dropped into an 85 GSL-SE which thankfully has an LSD. Just closed up the engine yesterday after changing all the seals and giving it a nice hefty streetport. To be installed:Haltech comp system,Aeromotive a-1000 fuel pump, and a HP 72 Turbonetics turbo. Nice work Aaron!

  • Or an NSD - No Slip Differential, aka welded. :P

I know you'll hat eme for making the suggestion, Aaron, but I drove around on a welded S4 NA diff for almost 2-years, every day with pretty much bi-weekly track events and it held up. Didn't even need Pat to weld it for me. ;)

Anyways nice car, and I'm glad to see it not only finished but making runs. Much respect.

    Marc

  • It's just plain unsafe on the street to have something like that, and I expect my car to drive in all situations, not just for some 1/4 mile runs. :-) I'm not willing to compromise one part of the car to gain in another, sine that nullifies the gain. In all the work I've done to Tina, the only thing I have lost so far is fuel mileage. :-)

  • Oh comeon, you know better than that. It wasn't strictly for 1/4 mile performance. Besides, it sure is fun taking wet highway on-ramps at 30-degree slide angles. :P

Regardless I understand your desire to keep it 'streetable'. So what's the plan? Turbo-II 4.1?

  • For now, probably the GSL-SE LSD, or my existing diff with an aftermarket LSD.

  • you rlly need a lsd dude

  • Yes, yes I do.

  • man u inspired me to buy me a 86 rx-7

  • Need some drag radials and faster shifting could probably be running 12s nice rx7 I only once ever hit a 15 in mine n/a and it was like a 15.98 lol

  • The biggest issue right now is the open diff. Without an LSD, it's kind of difficult to put almost 400HP down to the ground on any tire. Just an LSD and a little bit of a burnout should get the car into the lows 12s/high 11s without too much effort.

  • Yeah my car was an open dif also they suck! I got a locker in my 4wd though is bad azz. My lightning has a really good LSD also but I cant get it to hook up to save my life almost got 500 ft lbs to the ground

  • The Lightening has such a light rear end that I almost don't see the point of it having that much power. Luckily the RX-7 has a perfect weight balance so once I get a decent diff in there I should be able to take 2 seconds off that time. Drag racing is not the primary purpose of the car, so I won't compromise it's handling just to get a faster 1/4 mile.

  • I wouldnt either my car handled very well I only got to auto-x it once but was very impressed. I hit a 14.9 in the lightning once lol not very fast for 350ish horsepower and almost 500ft lbs of torque

  • you cant take 2 seconds off that time with an LSD.

You probably wont even take .1 second off. LSD cant make tires any stickier.

You look like you shortshift badly. Hopefully you improved this.

Also, its best not to talk crap about cars in your video and then miss two gears.

  • I shortshift 1st gear and keep out of WOT to try and maintain traction. It's about the only way to get the wheelspin under control at the moment. A burnout would help a little of course. It sounds like I'm shortshifting the other gears because the engine builds speed so quickly. Rest assured I am shifting at the overrev buzzer. The "crap talking" is all in good fun. We don't mean any of it. The mis-shift was a funny mistake which is why I left it in the video.

  • Now, as for the LSD, you're totally wrong. Trying to put 400HP down on an open diff just doesn't work very well. As soon as traction becomes marginal, one wheel starts spinning and that's where most of the power is shunted to. Maybe if I had more tire out back it would mitigate the problem slightly but the real issue is a diff incapable of assuring power to both wheels regardless of slippage. 400HP RX-7s run in the low 11s all day. Next year the car will get a diff upgrade.

  • ive been giving you a hard time in your other video but i TOTALLY vouch the LSD statement, an RX-7 is NOTORIOUS for shaving off ATLEAST 1 second "STOCK" with the LSD, when you break 200-300 horsepower in a lightweight car on open differential say hello to 0 traction and shitty times, ontop of that the only thing about his shifting that i can say is. he does granny shift a bit but he knows hes going to beat all those cars. he also knows he has the lead. why screw up a clutch with a win???

  • Your film crew isn't very respectful of anyone else's car.

No need to pick on anyone.

  • It was all a joke. You should have heard the stuff I cut out. :-)

  • im buildin a 6 port turbo fc also...but i enjoy all ur vids and nice ride

  • AWESOME CAR!!! nice work on the engine dude!!

  • mrfc3s from teh forums

love the vid man :D great commentary too :D

knew that thing was going to be a killer

  • There's actually a far more interesting commentary on the rough cut, but I had to edit it for public consumption.

  • 1.3 liter 5 liter eater

  • NICE! -finishline
