Good playmate for my rat? :P I would say my hedgehog, as well, but he gets startled easily and could hurt the monkey with his spikes when he rolls up into a ball. :(
dont let her sleep with you! you might roll over on her and kill her! that is how my parrot died.. my dad fell asleep with him on the couch and he crawled down to snuggle and my dad rolled over on him in his sleep :( i miss him so much.
I believe the same about freedom but you can't speak on beharf of them that particular marmoset looked very happy as if the owner was an older sibling.
i think monkeys are so cute! im totally obsessed with them! my mom was crying when she heard the marmosets are suffering.that is probaly gonna get her an idea of buying one. :)
I Shocked to know that these animals are sold in the US!! only because they are cute.. :( the are living animals and need proper care!I work with these animals and I know the are cute. but they live in family groups, it's a stupid idea to keep one or two at home! I love these monkeys but the do not belong in a home...
Yea but you have to be qualified to buy one you cant just go and pick it up at a pet store like a hamster! I have a marmoset and he has a great home and love us and is a great addition to our family
I've had a couple of these adorable creatures and i can say they do need a lot of attention. Mine used to go to my bedroom every morning to wake me up, and follow me around the house. They never use litter box. So you gotta keep cleaning the house all the time, or it's gonna get a characteristic smell from it's urine. And get used to scratches and bites on everything made of wood of any soft material. It's advisable to keep at least two of them, so they don't feel so alone.
Here in Brazil they can be easily found in nature, speccially on the northeast region, where the weather is tropical. Unfortunately a lot of people buy them illegaly and don't take the special care that it needs. Here to buy it legally you gotta have a special auhtorization and buy from authorized dealers also. It costs around US$ 1000.00 each.
I really want one!?! I can afford one but my parents dont seem too happy about keeping a monkey in a cage (even though I'd buy a large cage for it and keep it out when im around) :(
I'm thinking about getting one from the local pet store.. but I have a question.. do they use the litter box? or do you have to put a diaper on them like other monkeys?
they can become agressive. Especially if they are kept by themselves without others of thier kind. once they reach maturity they change. Also many suffer from emotional and psycological problems due to lack of proper care, not enough stimulation and enrichment, and other factors.
@wavecookies: If you're like me, and socialize with animals (I have to do so with my two ferrets and my bird), such as these, they can make great pets. These animals naturally live in groups in the wild, and unlike animals such as chimps, can be restrained whenever they are giving you a bad attitude, due to their size, and lower levels of other hormones in their bodies. You have more control over animals at this size.
Owning a monkey is like having a child. You have to spend lots of time with it and raise it to be emotionally strong or it will be an agressive monkey. Also if you have two they will do better. But like I said, you have to dedicate all your free time to them. Full time job son!!
Do they make good pets?. and could they trained ? Are they messy? Let me know Please I always wanted a little monkey. I love them . They thave the cutest little faces.
btw!! its a common marmoset not a pygmy marmoset isnt it?? its the same breed i had and that a common marmoset also known as a white tufted marmoset and again shes gorgeous.
omg!! the sound of its cries. how tame it is!! everything. i miss my baby boy. chonga is sooo beautiful. i lost my baby a few months back =(
i was gonna get more but feel as though im replacing him so im not now but oh my god. seeing your vid just reminded me how much i miss having a monkey around =(
No..its pretty much globally illegal to have any primate as a pet..but the exotic pet trade continues obviously bc there's big money to be made..I don't advocate it, but as long as its owner does not abuse and takes care of its animal then thats all that counts..
they are not pets, they should remain in their habitat

indeed
they normally live in families of up to 15 so it seems a little cruel to keep one or two in a home
