Amon Amarth Forever....btw, please do more with amon amarth, i dont think there is better music for the sca, as a LOT of members are vikings or northmen of some kind....ALL HAIL TO THE ALLFATHER!
@DarkRaven7000 They dont use swords. They use sticks so its not the sound you might be expecting. More like a bunch of clacking and thumping. Still cool but Metal makes everything better.
@DarkRaven7000 Well for one, I didnt have the original audio to work with, and two there are thousands of videos already on here where you can hear banging and wind and people talking and everything else you get at fighter practice or events. Also since this is a video of a war, you wouldnt hear hits so much as a constant clanging, banging noise clipping as it peaked over the acceptable range of whatever mic was being used. You'd get the same effect dumping a tool box down the stairs.
heavy is alright but fencing actually has a proper way of scoring SCA doesn't unfortunantly, you see in fencing it is a true sport of swordfighting because it has electronic scoring SCA doesn't, if the SCA had electronic scoring for every player I'd fall in love with this sport but unfortunantly it doesn't.
@Dimitri0809 I don't properly understand what you see as a 'proper' way of scoring, as people are meant to honestly take the hits they believe would kill them or disable them. You don't really need electronic scoring to feel like you're getting hit :P
The rapier fencing in SCA is quite fun, and people tend to take hits fairly, I've never seen someone not take a fair hit, but there have at times been issues with light cuts I suppose.
Why wouldn't electronics last in the SCA, Why is it impossible, not everyone is going to be honest about taking their hits and that is what the downside about this sport is, when you hit some you want to know that person has taken a hit it's stupid to rely on honesty because not everyone is honest this is why electronics would properly suffice a scoring system that works!!
@Dimitri0809 Because in SCA heavy, it is up to the person to judge whether the hit is strong enough to kill them, if the hit is too soft or glancing, the rules would say that it isn't a killing blow and they act accordingly. Electronics wouldn't last that long because it would be constantly pummelled. Maybe the Rapier fencers could use it, but the heavy fighters would just wear them out too quickly. And in this sport, you know you've hit them because you can hear and feel it. Hit harder if no.
But even if you can hear and feel it is still better to have an electronic display on the suit indicating to you that your oponent has been hit, for example if I you hit me then the lights on my armour will light up and it will show you that you hit me and therefore I also know that I have been hit, trust me without this I wouldn't be honest about it I would just let you keep on hitting me and I would not care if I take a death or not it is better to have some sort of electronic cont-
@Dimitri0809 cont- electronic indication telling you that you have been hit because it is more reliable and trustworthy than a players concious honesty about being hit, honor systems just don't work in games like these..
People that aren't honest and dont take fair hits dont stick around for very long. They aren't well liked and no one is afraid to show it. On the armored side if you dont call a hit they just hit you harder until either you call it or you fall down, for Rapier the possibility of injury is so high that you dont want to give someone a reason to hit you harder. For most people Ive met (in rapier) winning takes a back seat to having fun so theres no real reason to cheat
@Dimitri0809 Apart from what Korrinath said, I'd like to emphasise the harder hits. While people normally strive to hit hard enough to 'kill', they're not intentionally just whalloping you. If you refuse to take their simple hard hits, they WILL hit MUCH harder. If it was truly too light or iffy, don't take it, but they'll hit harder and faster next time. Some of these guys are pretty big, too, and the bigger and the fatter the harder and faster they can hit.
You still don't get it.. It's better to have some sort of indication system in place letting you know that you have been hit or you have hit your oponent similar to the sport of fencing because the first time you hit someone you expect that person not to hit back instantly after he or she has been it like in fencing. as soon as you make contact woth your sword agains't your oponent the electrnic system on the players show you that they have been hit therefore you know they be hit.
have you ever fought in the SCA? I think youre going on a lot of assumptions about how combat actually works with us. We rarely have any problems and dont need an electronic referee adding to price of our gear, and like Aserox said that kind of equipment would just get demolished in armored or rapier, driving the cost up more.
@Dimitri0809 Judging from what you've said and how you perceive SCA fights, i'm guessing you've never in person been to a tournament or training (with SCA) ? As Korrinath said, we usually don't have problems with it. If you've never been, go and talk to your local group, get into armour and just try a few bouts. You'll learn quickly that your not eager to receive more of a beating than you're already getting, unless perhaps your a glutton for punishment :P
I'm SCA but I'm a history buff as well, not into Dungeons and Dragons. My armor is as authentic as possible for a soldier of the 12th or 13th century, which makes me an oddity down here. My pet peeve are those friggin' helmets with the bar face guards that look like the grille of a '51 Buick - I hate those things! I've lost fights because I can't see as well as others, but at least I look the part and I don't wear Reeboks during battle. Nice vid tho - thanks!
Man my love for heavy armor n European martial arts increase with every video I c and this 1 made me fall in love <3 that was fucking brutal fucking awesome
@hollowsraaa the guys marching at the begining are the orkneys they are pretty beast and this is sooooo much fun...im a twig like im 6'1 and only weigh 140 and still go out there with these guys and kick ass you just got to realize that it does hurt at times but its soooo much fun
@hollowsraaa i know how you feel...size does seem like a big issue but trust me once you get out there and adrenaline kicks in you would swear you were 7 feet tall and could shoot lighting bolts out your arse hahaha
