@DrMMHMD no those are standered procedure because if you loose an engine your supposed to pull up to mantain bgp but something must have knocked out the control surfaces. ps he didnt stall the aircaft lost control
Adverse yaw from single engine failure on an F-4 is mild. In fact, the FAA gives F-4 pilots a 'centerline thrust' restriction with their multi-eng cert. Actual cause was pilot error. The pilot, while an experienced avaitor, was inexperienced in the QF-4. He pulled too hard in the break and lost control. The compressor stall was from disrupted intake airflow due to high AOA exper. in the aerodyn. stall.
god bless the men and women who are srving us in war. And for all the sacrafices that they have made to keep are contry safe during bad times. R.I.P. to all the people who lost there lives serving us in war
@airforceguy123 WTF? How are they keeping us safe? From what? 9/11 was completely fabricated to provide us with an opportunity to invade the middle east. Pathetic.
@airforceguy123 USAF is rather a murder tool not a safety measure -- as such it's rather damned than blessed. The US lost to jews last century, and many didn't even understand that.
See watch?v=lUpZhhbKUBo by Aaron Russo (who seems to be one of the best of modern jews, RIP).
@anuraagvaidya9 Unfortunately neither of the crew survived, the one you see eject was actually the radar intercept officer, he was able to eject but the plane was too low for the chute to open in time. If you look close you see him fly straight into the fireball.. The actual pilot didn't even have time too eject, they were both killed from impact with the ground.... Terrible thing.... R.I.P. Navy Cmdr. Michael Norman and Marine Corps Capt. Andrew Muhs....
@jkr2680 Looks like the pilot wanted to make sure the plane wouldn't go into the crowd before ejecting. Even then there should have been enough time & altitude to eject safely, AFAIK all USAF have zero-zero seats so there must have been something else wrong too. A sad loss of two brave men.
@anuraagvaidya9 Well considering the guy you see eject immediately slams parachuteless into the ground behind his exploding aircraft at a couple hundred miles per hour, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that no, he probably didn't survive.
Catastrophic engine failure enough said anyone who knows anything about an F4 knows when the engine fails a Phantom comes out of the air like a "greased brick" got it away from spectators and ejected to low unfortunatly not pilot error
@Scorpac After nine months of painstaking examination of charred wreckage and videos taken by spectators, Navy investigators have ruled out mechanical failure, birds caught in the engine, and faulty maintenance as causes of the crash that killed the pilot, Navy Cmdr. Michael Norman, and radar intercept officer Marine Corps Capt. Andrew Muhs.
@Scorpac correct me if im wrong but it sounded like you just said it was engine failure. the accident report ruled that out. go and read it, it states the pilot was heavy handed and inexperienced in this aircraft and the cause of the crash was him stalling it.
@ash3rr its nearly impossible to stall a yet, even a phantom, flight computers always keep the plane steady, as you can see the engine has fire blow outs that means the engine is dieing and that was caused by a technical error or birds
@Scorpac let me tell u something it's clear u dont know about planes any airplane can stall even the one fly by wire or "flight computers" as u call them , keeping in mind the F-4 has no such computers , from what i see the engine falure caused the plane to yaw and dance about in the turn the pilot did not recognize this or reacted too slowly cusing the plane to roll towards the ground , if the wings were leveled at the first sign of uset the accident may have been avoided
@tug82 i guess you smoked a bit to much of your stuff over there in jamaica. stop being such a smartass and watch the facts. a jet engine cant yaw a plane when flaming out. dont know who told that to you
@Scorpac One of the first things they teach in aviation flight school is: "An airplane can stall in any attitude, at any airspeed." The F4 was one of the heaviest fighters ever devised, it was already at a very low airspeed and altitude making a turn. A flameout at a moment like that virtually guaranteed an immediate loss of control resulting in a crash.
I'm am very interested in combat aviation and appearantly what happened was he got into a compressor stall not enought air in the intakes and had both engines flame out
@beexsama He was probably trying to level out the plane before ejecting, cause it was rolling upside down. When it was upright, he ejected, but it was too late.
Most aircraft have the Aces ll ejection seat made, which use to be manufactured by McDonnell Douglas in Long Beach, CA. I Know because I worked next the little building where they made this seat. I was also a crew chief on the F4-G at George Air Force Base in CA. but I don't recall which ejection seat they had. If was the Aces ll than he survived. This the Aces ll works at zero speed and zero altitude.
@Stover36 After reviewing the video once more, It does appear that he indeed ejected into the fireball. But since I wasn't there I will assume he survued. Unless there is conformation on this incident stating otherwise. I never assume anyhting on something like this. I seen crashes that the piolot shoulkd have died, yet he survied.
I remember a line in a movie from a USAF flight instructor: "Gentlemen, this is the F4 Phantom, America's testament to the theory that given a big enough engine, you can make a brick fly."

OK, but the main problem was engine failure.
blue9z 2 years ago
@blue9z NO ! the main problem was the unauthorised pilot shut down both engines himself while banking the F-4 at low speed!!!
too low and too slow to restart the engines resulted in a crash.

He ejected but it was too late I think, when he ejected the aircraft was not more than 20 - 30 meters above the ground.
so I think he died or had some serious injuries
