instantly as a massage therapist you can pick on client behaviour.we observe this as 1 of our main skills is observation, depending on the situation i would either ignore it, ask if the client is ok and would like to continue and explain that some nerves can be innovated to cause this and it is a common thing that can occur.
It's only natural response with a male relaxes. Depending on the clients' respond:
if he is calmed: ignore it; if he embarrassed, then I would place extra covering or ask the client to turn over-anything to make him feel at ease; or if he begins to act on it-advances; then I would step back and firmly warn this session will be terminated if he doesn't behave.
i try to always explain before hand that its perfectly natural to become erect during massage because the body is relaxed, and if it makes the client feel more comfortable, he's welcome to a pillow
When a client has an erection, I would ignore it. This is a very natural process, it has nothing to do with arousal, he just has become very relaxed. I bunch the sheets up anyhow, soooo...this should not be a prob. only address it if he does first.
I always always always "bunch" the sheet up in the groin area when doing massage on a man... I will never know they have an erection in the first place..unless they tell me then its off the table they go..and it makes some men more comfortable to know you cant see the shape or outline of the groin area.
Also as a female therapist you should be aware that sometimes too light of a touch, almost feathery can irritate as well because it can be mistaken as suggestive or even ticklesh. I'd shrug it off and just say "Sometimes that happens, how about turning over to work on your back. If client is looking for something else you'll know and You should terminate appt. You have back up on this as no Spa owner wants to lose their license either. You should never be made to feel uncomfortable.
If a client is embarrassed by this, maybe I'd find an excuse to leave the room for a while. Or maybe I'd offer him to change position - to lay on a stomach for a back massage..
I've been worried about that as a client, even while having my shoulder and neck region done. It's like you have to meditate or use mind control to counteract the "erectile hormones". After a while, the awkwardness goes away and the sensuality of it all disappears.

I'd ask to turn them over onto the other side (to say, prone) and ignore it as much as possible...

I'd excuse myself from the room for a moment & then maybe have someone else do it.
