John Barnes - probably one of the best players of his generation. My idol in LFC and the english team in my teens. Always a member of the LFC legends.
It says something about Digger that even when he aged and started slowing down he was still able to school most of the players in the league, an absolute legend!
barnes and beardsly made some of the first memories i have about football...thinking back how it felt to watch them perform and electrify the pitch...they added another dimension to the team
HE WAS A GENIOUS ON THE BALL!! The best player I have ever witnessed, playing for Liverpool FC or any other club for that matter. Far and away he was outstanding and would have tore Europe apart had Liverpool been involved at that time. If he was at his height now, I believe he would have definately been the first player to smash the one hundred million pound mark, he was THAT GOOD!!! How I wish we, at Liverpool, had someone like him now. He was better than anyone I can think off
@rizlaspark lol, yeah, I also hope so... I guess it's the right time to unleash Raheem since our wingers are shit... Downing at 18M... wow... what a waste of money... bad business Kenny (:
The balance of a dancer. The strength that comes from dedicated training. Effortless pace and a football brain to give him that extra split second of time. Wonderful close skills and a clinical accuracy to his passing/shooting. John is one of the best wingers I've seen in nearly fifty years of watching, he was far and away the best player in the country in the late eighties, unstoppable and so exciting.
What an amazing player Johnny Barnes was. I remember my bedroom covered wall and roof with LFC posters. Our man JB was and will always be my hero. Incredible player. YNWA.
First 3 seasons at LFC Digger was the best player in the country by some distance, Gazza, & Robson included....he was the stand out player in a brilliant LFC side.
I was on the Kop for a derby game where a big group of Evertonians were in the Kop and threw hundreds of bananas at John Barnes. The atmosphere was explosive, but John Barnes was calm as anything and just picked up a banana and ate it. A legend.
Awesome player, I remember him when I started watching the premier league in the mid-90's, he was still in Liverpool, still doing his stuff despite being over 30...incredible player and a charismatic guy.

My era so I'm biased, but my favourite LFC player. A gentleman, wonderful ambassador for the club and sport and a thrill to watch. Truly inspiring.

There were few greater sights in football than John Barnes running with the ball.

Unfortunately I only started watching football in 97, when he was already at Newcastle. But man, at 34 he was still the fastest player on the pitch.
