If I had a great idea for a sitcom/drama series and I had the cash I'd put a pliot on the Internet myself. I don't know why some of these rich retired entertaiment guys lie Eisner and Turner don't fund startup shows to put on the Internet. Once you get a loyal following, you could charge so much per show or season. If it becomes popular enough, you go to the studio/network and write your own ticket.

What is YouTube? Who owns it? Why would you use them for distribution? What happens if you film/content is longer than 10 minutes? How are you going to pay for the cost of production if you aren't making any money for your artistic endeavor? What is in the YouTube agreement clause for posting content? What is in the fine print? Etc.

No hollywood writer should make more than a doctor, or a nurse, or a police officer, or a teacher. We live in a rather ridiculous world, in which people can sell fiction (ideas on paper about imaginary scenarios) and actually get paid more than the truly valued members of society. This is a treasured time for people to turn off their televisions, disconnect from the udders of hollywood, and advance their intelligence - rather than their grasp of some fantastic world cooked up by wanton writers.

The writers of good television shows deserve as much respect as any book author. Even though writers do not save lives, they do make lives a little bit better. They earn more money because they work for more people and because the entertainment business gets a lot of money. Actors, Directors, and producers are not the only ones who should get money from DVDs, w/out writers they have nothing to work with in the first place.

We live in a free economy where people can compete for what ever the market will produce. How would determine what people are supposed to make? In a free economy the market determines this. If enough people turn off their TVs then you have writers making very little. But in the real world there's a great demand for talent. You might want to try the nearest totalitarian regime.

i'm not arguing against the market per se, just the unequitable way the wealth is distributed. The writers make this creation, and the actors, directors, producers, and the studio eggheads reap the rewards from that creation. The writer gets dick. Say you invented something but only the people that market and distribute it make the money; wouldnt you be pissed? Get rid of the current system. It sucks.

Agreed Darth look at the series "Friends" so MAtthew Perry is a talented comedic actor but would he really be funny at all without the talented writers that wrote for the show? Now I'm sure they all cashed out (writers) for many millions, but it pales in comaparison to what the marginal actors made. Theres a reason you see very few of them on TV/movies anymore except Aniston.
