If I had a great idea for a sitcom/drama series and I had the cash I'd put a pliot on the Internet myself. I don't know why some of these rich retired entertaiment guys lie Eisner and Turner don't fund startup shows to put on the Internet. Once you get a loyal following, you could charge so much per show or season. If it becomes popular enough, you go to the studio/network and write your own ticket.
rigelnigel is the kind of person i simply cannot speak with.
so i shall type instead.
i write. i love to write. i live to write. and these people, as well. no doctor can save my life more successfully than a truly magnificent story. and you know, no one deserves to be ignored.
I propose we destroy the Hollywood system all together; i think the average person doesn't appreciate the sick amounts that actors get, so why not boycot hollywood altogether and we'll make our own films and tv for now on and put it on youtube for free. everybody gets nothing
What is YouTube? Who owns it? Why would you use them for distribution? What happens if you film/content is longer than 10 minutes? How are you going to pay for the cost of production if you aren't making any money for your artistic endeavor? What is in the YouTube agreement clause for posting content? What is in the fine print? Etc.
I'm under no false illusions that i know how a new system should run; rather the current system is unfair and she be razed to the ground. Hollywood's a dead dinosaur in my opinion, fat off the misery of others.

No hollywood writer should make more than a doctor, or a nurse, or a police officer, or a teacher. We live in a rather ridiculous world, in which people can sell fiction (ideas on paper about imaginary scenarios) and actually get paid more than the truly valued members of society. This is a treasured time for people to turn off their televisions, disconnect from the udders of hollywood, and advance their intelligence - rather than their grasp of some fantastic world cooked up by wanton writers.
The writers of good television shows deserve as much respect as any book author. Even though writers do not save lives, they do make lives a little bit better. They earn more money because they work for more people and because the entertainment business gets a lot of money. Actors, Directors, and producers are not the only ones who should get money from DVDs, w/out writers they have nothing to work with in the first place.
How lovely it is that you've decided for the rest of us what's truly important and valuable in life! The burden you must shoulder on a day to day basis is staggering, after all, it's a big world you're looking after; no wonder you haven't time to both watch television and read a book. Oh, as long as we're chatting, are there any books I shouldn't read? Just thought you might be the person to tell me what's offensive and what's acceptable. Thanks in advance.
We live in a free economy where people can compete for what ever the market will produce. How would determine what people are supposed to make? In a free economy the market determines this. If enough people turn off their TVs then you have writers making very little. But in the real world there's a great demand for talent. You might want to try the nearest totalitarian regime.
i'm not arguing against the market per se, just the unequitable way the wealth is distributed. The writers make this creation, and the actors, directors, producers, and the studio eggheads reap the rewards from that creation. The writer gets dick. Say you invented something but only the people that market and distribute it make the money; wouldnt you be pissed? Get rid of the current system. It sucks.
Agreed Darth look at the series "Friends" so MAtthew Perry is a talented comedic actor but would he really be funny at all without the talented writers that wrote for the show? Now I'm sure they all cashed out (writers) for many millions, but it pales in comaparison to what the marginal actors made. Theres a reason you see very few of them on TV/movies anymore except Aniston.
Precisely my point. History remembers Sophocles, Shakespeare, etc. Who acted in those productions? Actors are important, but why are they more important than the person who wrote the thing that's making their career. 20 million for 3 months work just to pretend you're someone else, which I'm sorry is human nature. Give me a break. The true artist is being ignored.
I wholeheartedly applaud the style of your production, especially the scintillatingly amusing innuendo of the "interim agreement". That had me laugh in delight.
I am afraid my fellow YouTube commenters usually do not elicit the same response. My guess is that it has something to do with them not knowing the word "elicit".
Press on! Or, if it's financially feasible, produce your own shows =)
How often do you hear 'girls', and, some women complain about how spineless men are? Typically they fall for the most shallow players with the bragging>looks and no substance. Then they go out and do it again and again. I can't judge because I wish I had the looks, game or the money to exploit them.
Well, that's an articulate, well thought out argument. You presented your idea in a way that is compelling and thought provoking, while managing to remain completely accessible. It has a certain style, a verve if you will that I can't quite put my finger on. Very impressive.
hahahahhaa okay okay because you replied to my asshole statement I'll be nice and say sorry it wasn't thee worst thing I've watched all day just not of my taste so I am sorry
Maggie Gyllenhaal has taken part in a mock lesbian orgy for a video campaign supporting the Writer's Guild Association's strike.
The Secretary star stars in Speechless - a short film about three girls who all arrive at a hotel room to discover they are dating the same man "AMPiTePa", who has stood them all up.
AMPiTePa stands for Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
The film was made by Factory Girl director George Hickenlooper, Alan Sereboff and Jill Kushner.
The girl with the hoop earrings chewing the gum is Allyson Sereboff, the other girl in the elevator is Zoe Kazan. The pizza girl was played by Diana Paschal.
I think the writers need to stop striking... if they don't one of two things will happen: 1) The shows will get new writers (kinda like the air controllers strike way back when lol) OR 2) Nothing will happen! The shows will probably go on, new stars will probably rise. Hey - I guess we should thanks these guys or new talent might've never been discovered!
and how exactly do you see it? they won't find new writers. it's all about solidarity. here you are writing for a great show and you get shit? that's why the writers are on strike. who would want to work for no pay? or shit pay?
AKA the AMPTP - Association of Motion Picture and Theatrical Producers... the other side who walked out of negotiations with the Writer's Guild. The greedy bastards.
