@cojocoolio I somehow doubt the coding of your game disc is different than the coding on the poster's game disc. He's just figured out the parameters of the collision detection of the lava.

this level is annoying for speedruns if you don't have a propeller suit.

I don't think the Propeller Suit is necessarily needed. I think it slows you down. You can jump straight through the fire and get hit, but it saves more time than your method. Like at 0:21 that would make you Super Mario again, and 0:45 would make you Small Mario, with a short invincibility moment to run through the fire at 0:50.

That's just my opinion. I'll try testing it later with Ice Mario.

well, this run was planning for a full game speedrun, and i would have propeller mario at this point. Did you see my new speedrun of this level? i beat it in 430.

if you can do any better than this while taking hits, i'd love to see it. i never tried it, and can't see that it would be faster than the 430 i got

Around 0:28, would it not be faster to jump off the down slanted platform? It looks like when you run off onto the up slant you hit a bit of slowdown.

i do slow down just a bit running on that up slant, but i need to do that to set up my triple jump over the lava fountain. It's the only way i've found to set up the triple jump properly, and i only lose about a tenth of a second anyways, so no big deal.

You couldn't jump from the down slant to the the small platform and then do a short jump onto the buzzy beetle?
