Buddawg 1960 is Spot on. Remember when VHS Tapes came out. The movie industry was fighting Tooth & Nail against them. So what happened to the Movie Business? It became bigger & better than ever. Resting my case now......................................!!! LOL
This kind of music is being recorded all over Texas still today (Darrell McCall, Tony Booth, Curtis Potter, Amber Digby, Justin Trevino just to name a few) but the assholes with all the power ignore it.
try also on youtube ERNEST ASHWORTH singing TALK BACK TREMBLING LIPS now that is real country wow its the way he turns and a happy face and good voice you will love it
To be honest with u, the steel part isn't good here, it sounds inexperienced or just with out good technique.
But Dickey is one of the best now, don't know how long it took him to develop his style, but google Levi Mullen, and hear the steel Dickie plays on all 3 of his albums, it's aaawesome!
Levi had the site set-up where u could hear the first 1 1/2 minutes of each song, and the intro and solo to most of those songs are killer, and have a very distinct bakersfield or something sound to them
I grew up in the most magical age of country music and bluegrass. This is a piece of the magic. Thank you jannelong for posting this song. I love to hear and sing Faron Young
Faron could do things with his voice like no other country singer. So smooth while singing behind the beat with crazy vocal control. He could dip his voice & move around so effortlessly with it. He had perfect pitch too. I sing along to all of the greats & he may be the hardest to match up with when singing along. The ultimate practice for singing harmonies in a country song is to sing along with Faron. Thanks for posting this. It's a shame more people don't know how amazing this man was & is.
I agree with all the nice comments about "Real Country!!" This new stuff doesn't interest me at all but the bright side is I have really developed a taste for the British rockers like Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Mark Knopfler et al
I completely agree. I know people have to protect the rights to their prformances, but surely the opportunity to see artist like Faron, Merle, Buck, George, Patsy (the list is endless) in their prime - as well as the fantastic musicians that backed these artists - is more important, particularly where a younger generation who are showing signs of wanting to look back to a time when music possessed a certain style and substance is concerned.
I have to agree with all the comments here about how classy country used to be, and how pop it all is today. If I have to endure another bout of Taylor Swift and Kelly Pickler I don't think I can stand it. So many of the new country girls look and sound just like the pop acts like Britney Spears!
If only these bad taste record producers would record country music in the 60s like we hear it here. Its so great to hear the great Faron Young with a natural backup with alot of feeling for the music. Some artists were prouduced very well, but alot of raw talents were so disrespectfully produced
Another great song by Faron. He was such a wonderful singer and his personality made him so special. I do miss how classy the entertainers looked back in the days of actually dressing like entertainers. The gorgeous outfits of the guys and the gals added to the whole performances they did I feel. Faron could always do ballads so well but still do his novelty songs putting fun into them. Everything by this talented man is wonderful. Thank you for posting. - Paula
Thanks for posting.Leon Sutton was a friend of my fathers and it was great to see him again.Faron Young was one of the greatest.Again, thanks for sharing.
I really don't believe many people know how good country music was at one time. Some of it was doctored up too much, but it wasn't the nonsense we have today. Faron Young, Ray Price, Willie Nelson, Bobby Bare, Paycheck, Merle, George, Loretta, Johnny Cash and of course, Jerry Lee Lewis
Just an open letter to those who demand that these videos be pulled because of copyrights: after seeing the Homer&Jethro and Faron Young videos from the "Second Fiddle To A Steel Guitar" movie, I ordered the DVD. After seeing this performance, I am going to order the "Nashville Rebel" DVD!Having these videos on U-Tube doesn't rip anyone off- they advertise your product!
Also, they arent for sale, they meet the "Fair Use" statute... and it is the only way thousands get exposed to the greats of country music when it was real country music!
I haven't seen the Nashville Rebel movie yet but I can tell you that this clip is on the "Road to Nashville" movie. It has performances by Connie Smith, Marty Robbins, Faron, Waylon and many many more. The performances are amazing!! And speaking of Dicky... I have had the opportunity to be on the same stage with him a few times and let me tell you it is the most amazing thing ever! He is the best. As is Faron... to me they are what REAL country music is all about.
This clip is from the 1966 Waylon Jennings movie, "Nashville Rebel." Deputies were Leon Sutton, Darrell McCall, Dicky Overbey, and Cootie Hunley. Faron and the Deputies were in three movies that year. You can learn all about Faron in his biography, "Live Fast, Love Hard: The Faron Young Story."
This songs tears the heart out. Faron Young was the first concert I ever attended. I was 8 yrs. old. Saw him many times over the years...also served him some drinks! He was a lovely man. He can't be replaced.
dicky overbey "the steel player" is also the steel player on hank williams jr's family tradition thats always played on the radio, hes also on the whole album
This sort of music is among the greatest.Nashville has pushed it out.Dale Watson tries to keep 'em honest.
So all you Honky Tonk music fans, check out Dale.
I was listening to WSM on my way home from work when the announcement was made that Faron had committed suicide. What a X-mas season 1996.Thanks for putting this wonderful clip up,Faron was a true great!
During the '90s, Young was stricken with a debilitating emphysema. Depressed by his poor health, he shot himself on December 9, 1996, and passed away the next day. Though he was underappreciated toward the end of his career, Faron Young was a groundbreaking vocalist during the '50s, and he remains one of the finest honky tonkers of his time.
Yes, Faron is dead. He committed suicide.(I can't spell)because he felt that he did not get the reconition he so deserved for his music. Don't remember what year it was.
Faron is simply the most(maybe not the most)cheesiest country singer of them all.If you want greats, check out merle haggard or marty robbins.(you are aware of faron's ultimate fate)
John, you are entitled to your opinion, of course..as are the many thousands of us who disagree with you. If you don't like him the solution is quite simple. Don't listen to him. By the way, I also love Merle and Marty (especially Marty) but I still think Faron was the greatest. Yes it is very sad that he suffered from depression and eventually put a bullet in his head and an ache in the hearts of his many friends and fans. Rest in peace old friend.

This had to be filmed after 64 as Emmons guitars weren't made before then and that is what Dickie is playing. Possibly the Touch My Heart Emmons?
