What I love about this scene and this movie is it shows that there was "another" hip crowd in the late 60s. Yeah, there were the hippies and psychedelics and that's fine. But there were these people too. They dressed nice, they drank cocktails (maybe even smoked a little weed), they had taste, and they didn't get up into people's shit. Totally, totally cool.
In April 2011 If you get put on hold while you're waiting to talk to an Unemployment person they have a tune that ain't far from what they have here...its right outta that era. Of course, they could make kick butt Health Care ads with what happens to Bullitt with the edge of the menu!
@70Kenny Yes, I would trade all my tomorrows for that time in 1968. Not to mention how the scenes in Bullitt had some post modern styles at that time.
Bullitt is a perfect star vehicle for cool guy Steve McQueen. I love this now classic scene in the restaurant... She smiles at him first then he smiles back.
Steve McQueen is the ultimate Mr Cool!! A real hollywoodstar & Bisset is a wet dream!! On the sountrak there is this song, its name is "A Song For Cathy by Lalo Schifrin
It is released next month by Film Score Monthly on a limited edition CD of the entire music for Bullitt -- all the film cues, plus the rerecorded album tracks from 1968. This piece is called Cantata For Combo.
@ricadus Hey, tell me more about that since I've been looking for this track just about my whole life. I am also trying to find other jazz of this kind but no one knows what bands or artists to reccommend.
This song is not on the soundtrack, its by an obscure jazz quartet called Meridian West. Featuring guitarist: Larry Vogt, bassist: Nat Johnson, flautist: Julie Iger-Roseman, percussionist: Al Pimental. They only ever released a couple of albums
come on guys have u not watched bullitt they are an item from the begining of the film they are out for a meal he goes by her work to see her my god sometimes i despair of ppls ignorance
great cinematography. bisset is supposed to be oblivious to the entering flute. the focus on bisset when she looks over her right shoulder as bullit looks at her, acknowledging her beauty and the good it feels to be her companion. great scene. women take note: we do appreciate your essence.
where can I find a copy of this track and are their artits /albums of this type I can get. I really loved this music when I first say the movie as a kid. Please help!!!!
this is my favourite part of the movie, a love scene with no sex. And man it's a powerful look her gives her when there staring at each other, Steve McQueen the best on screen actor ever
hey jamie1402, im also 23 and this has bn one of my fav. movies since i turned 18!!! i ve always had a thing 4 mr mcqueen:) haha xxxxx this is also one of my fav. scenes in the movie...godddd....they dont make movies like these anymore!xxxx im proud 2 say i own this on dvd!:)
My favourite scene in Bullitt. I'm 23 and this is one of my favourite films. The song is not actually on the soundtrack album, but the cloest thing to this on it, is the song called the architects building by Lalo Schifrin.
great tune, and i've been trying to find out the name of the band as well. i DO BELIEVE i've seen the jazz flutist in another movie. if anyone knows who the band, or she, is, please let me know.
and, yes, miss bissett easily falls into the 'hottie' department.
I think this is the first time that they meet each other on the film. Very nice scene, excellent cinematography too. And Bisset looks stunningly beautiful...
No! Watch the film again - they know each other from the beginning. Earlier in the film Bullitt visits her at her workplace where she asks him to help her with the printing of one of her jobs - they meet later at this restaurant for dinner.

Sadly, one of the few good things to come out of 1968, if I recall correctly.

Great music! Just flute, guitar & rythm section, so soft & tender, yet so dynamic at the same time!
Great film-making! No words & dialogues, just images & music, yet so expressive & atmospheric scene!
A masterpiece of sight and sound!

This was always the scene that did it for me, Lt. Bullutt and the Jacqueline Bisset character enjoying after-hours jazz.
McQueen had trouble signing on to a 1958 flick about an establishment charachter (a police lieutenant), perhaps this scene confinsed him it was OK.

It's actually "The Architect's Building". "Song for Cathy" is a much slower, melancholy song.

it can be because it´s played at live instead of a cover version.

Pity though, it would be a better script idea - their looks suggest that they actually see each other *in a romantic way* for the first time.
