  • This is amazing, just finished a casual book of drawings for uni, hope this impresses the tutor!

  • Wow. I'm going to try this. Question. What is the maximum number of text block pages that you recommend to be done with this binding technique? Thanks again.

  • A good idea if you want to hide the knot is start the stitch not from the back cover, but just inside the back cover. Then, when you get to the end, you thread the needle through the back cover so both ends of the thread/ribbon are between the last page and the back cover. Thus, when you tie the knot, it's hidden inside the book. It might not work as well with ribbon if it's too thick, but if you're using thread to bind, it works well, and it just looks much neater.

  • Wonderful tutorial. Needed a refresher as I got taught this in my first year of Graphic Communication. Thank you.

  • aww i wanted to see her flip through the finished book.

  • thanks!!

  • Fantastic tutorial. Thank you. I am certainly going to try this. A great way to use up scrap paper.

  • Thank you so much!! I'm going to make my friends wedding songbooks using this technique.

  • Thank you! Now I know another way of bookbinding! :)

  • lol. i just did a little one for practicing. really quickly one. O-O

  • this tutorial is SO MISLEADING - u say to take ur ribbon at 3x the size of the book's length, BUT you dont bother to add that the length of the ribbon also depends on the thickness of your book. OBVIOUSLY if ur book has like 3 flimsy pages then that length may be enough but if you have a good amount of pages, or your pages are made of thick card etc., then u need plenty more than just 3x the length.

  • @safi456 just goes to show that common sense is not so common. use your head.

@vanillajoy1 thanks for such a great tutorial!

  • hi, ive been wanting to make this for ages, but now that i am doing it, its so hard! i am binding a book with mountboard covers (yes, thick), but if that was not enough i have 15 pages inside, all folded so basically 30 pages...the awl has made tiny holes, and going into them twice is a nightmare! please tell me if there is an easier way to do thicker books...? thx.

  • Thank you this has been very informative.

  • your fingers are all in the way. good tutorial but i would suggest better hand placement ":D

  • what could you use instead of an awl to poke the holes?

  • With the finish of the binding you could bring the ribbon around to the front and knot then finish with a neat and tidy pretty bow. For an overall polished look, be sure to keep the ribbon straight when pulling through holes and turning at bottom of book. You did a great job with this video, remember to have fun.

  • Thank you, very helpful

  • thanks, nice vid. congrats!

  • this was....boring.

  • I loved this tutorial! I'm going to make one for my girlfriend and she is going to LOVE it! Thanks.

  • @penelopenorman I am sure your girlfriend will like it. These books make for a great gift.

  • Where did you learn how to do this?

  • @janmarinilashes I took a bookbinding class in college.

  • thank you.. you help me so much :)

  • nice video, easy and helpful, but i dont get something - the back of the book looked untidy and badly finished, nothing like the front - is it supposed to look like that??? i thought both sides should look the same, and be presentable whichever way u look at the book...?

  • @safi456 The back looks exactly like the front, the ribbon may have just been twisted on the back. You can easily take the time to make sure the ribbon is untwisted on both sides or let it twist as it will, whichever look you prefer.

  • @vanillajoy1 thx for the reply - just 2 more Qs if u dont mind: firstly, is there any reason why u cant use a paper punch instead of that thingy u r using? esp. if u have a large stack of papers to get through? and secondly, the length of the ribbon - u said 3x the ht. of the book - doesnt that depend on how thick ur book is? if uve got tons of papers to bind, then perhaps 3x wouldnt be enough?

  • thank you so much for this video. i made a really cool book for my visual arts course and it looks amazing!!!! :D you were very clear.

  • amazing i made a little book on paris for art but could not of done it without this tutorial. so thank you a billion xx

  • Thanks for making this. I've been working on a short story for a friend as a birthday present and wanted to present it better than as regular sheets of paper. I had an idea for what I wanted to do, but didn't know how to do it.

You present the in a great and easy to understand way with the camera at an angle that doesn't have anything obscure what you're doing. Terrific job. c: I can't wait to make it and give it to my friend.

  • hi all i can say is thank you so much.

  • This is amazing! You are so clear and easy to understand. Thank you, from Boulder, CO.

  • Thank you very much for such a helpfully clear presentation. I loved your choice of paper!

  • Thank you for sharing. I just took a class on book making. We did this book except we started at the last hole, that way, when you come back to it, you can tie and knot, or bow, and make it a decorative part of the book instead of trying to hide it. I like that way better, but like that you shared this in case I ever want to hide the end knot.

  • Very clear. Thanks!

  • thank you! very interesting video...will probably make one in future!!!!
