Was it his acting? Becuase it looks like the same thing from the eleventh hour when it exploded? No offence, Mr. Smith, but even if it did burn you, you made it look realistic like something did explode in your hand.

No, he was fine. He says so in an interview that him getting hurt when the sonic blew up was a rumour.

he got burnt because the explosion caused sparks from the umbrella because he was holding it too close. he was seen by the medical team then he carried on .

He wouldn't have been allowed to do the stunt, if it weren't safe. Health and Safety is very strict about such things...and, they aren't about to let their lead actor get hurt, as that would be a disaster! No, he wasn't hurt, and the stunt was carefully planned...rumour from set is that Smith was merely startled, as it was a one-off stunt, and he wasn't quite prepared for such a big bang.
