I think that about 200 cm is the longest I would recommend you to do. The longer you make the instrument the lower it´s basic key tone will be. So if you are going to make a really long didgeridoo make sure that you also make it with a big opening bell (at least 12-15 cm inner diameter). That way you will kompensate for the lengt and make the basic key note higher and richer in it´s vocal variation.
The shorterst length I would recommend is about 110 cm. Mouthpiece always 3 cm inner diameter.

hello there i just checked out your website, you have some vary nice didgs,im in the middle of making my own out of a birch tree and i have a couple of ?s to ask ,the first one is ,will it work with using a fresh cut piece and not crack on me?,and what are the carving methods to get the different keys.
But make certain that you start hollowing out the log half immediatly when you have it inside the house, it starts cracking of the dry air otherwise. Store the logs outside the house if you intend to start working on them later. The longer you make the log the lower you get the key note. The wider you make the bell opening the higher key you get. Be sure to make the upper part of the didj narrow, 3 cm wide inside to get a good back pressure.
i have a question...i'm going to make a didge whith eucalyptus wood...how much time does it take to the wood to dry since the day that it's cuted from the three until i can strart making a didge???
i want to make a didge out of agave, and have a very long length.
what would be the longest that you would make a didgeridoo?
and what would be the advantage or disadvantage of a long one?
could you recommend a hole size at either end please?
cheers!

It works very well with a fresh birch log.

I split the didgeridoo in a big band saw.
Then i hollow it out and finally glue it together with wood glue.
