Im not a drummer but surely that wasnt a 'roll' his hand was playing individual notes. Thats why it wasnt fast. Maybe Im missing something

Definite Moon Gel necessity. My snare rang out really bad and I put one on and it sounds amazing now. My toms don't really need them (I have Evans EC2 heads for toms), but it helps to get that really low tom sound that I love

little sticky gel squares that are used for dampening. you just stick them to the drum head usually by the edge. youtube it or something :)

yes, but you dont have the buzz of the snare to cover up the sound of the rim so you get a lot of clicking. there are other techniques though.

dont use moon gel and waste your money. if it helps, fine but you can always fold toilet paper or tissue paper and put a peice of duct tape over it

Duck tape ruins the head (you can't play with brushes) and you get a significantly better sound and even muffledness (word?) from moongel.
