Speaking as the person who shot this video back in 1990 or whenever, yes it is in poor taste, although not entirely disrespectful if you are aware of the context. The event where the video was shot (entirely improvised, no script whatsoever) was a "Come as your Favourite Dead Rock Star" party, where everyone dressed up as a deceased music legend. I took my camera around the party (dressed as Ian Curtis), conducting mock interviews for fun. It was never meant for public distro.

I understand the wit behind this video and I think it is amusing to an extent, but i swear Dennis Wilson would surface from the depths of the ocean and come find whoever made this video if he could. Dennis wilson along with the rest of the Beach Boys were very tallented musicians. They went through hard times and should be appreciated for the roles that they play in Rock n Roll history. Along with the Beatles, they truely were the turning point in music at that time. So I for one thank them.
