I saw this movie a few years ago. It was in French with no subtitles, but I could still sort of try to figure it all out. It was probably the most violent movie I've seen in my life.
very good review mate, got it spot on imo.... except comeon, gore gore gore woot woot woot :D....exploding head was excessive? he can't shot in the head with a shotgun, of course his head is gonna explode!!... the zombie cop was the only stupid part of the movie imo
@Stupidsquire her airway was compromised for some reason or another, my guess is the toaster to the face made her airways swell, possibly to much blood. she stabbed a hole in her trachea (trachaeotomy) so she could breathe.
This movie was very well done but I wouldn't watch it again unless someone paid me. Although I respect all the work that went into making the film, I just didn't enjoy watching it, I like slasher films but I'm more into the camp than the gore. It's not a slam against the film at all, it's just the older that I get the more unsettling films like these become to me. I would have loved this when I was in high school though, definitely.
Inside disturbed the hell out of me, but Martyrs took 'disturbing' to a whole new level and left a dent in my psyche for weeks. Easily the most emotional and disturbing horror movie ever created imo.
one, its not very 'new' movie, but ok XD have you noticed in majority of french horror films there are only female main characters ? your dialect is cute, very nice voice to listen to :)
P.S. the cgi baby didnt look that bad honestly, and it was there to represent the stress being put upon the baby during the struggle, it worked for me.
The best thing to do with this movie (from personal experience) is to show it to friends who arent huge horror fans, or people that easily get scared or grossed out. You are sure to get some hilarious reactions.
Personally, I rank this in my top 5 all time slasher / horror films. I understand some people have mixed reactions due to the brutality of the film, but you cant say it wasnt an intense ride.
Hey guys, not that the filmakers gave any thought to this, I'm sure the actresses felt assuaged by their paycheques, but dare mention the "m" word.....misogyny? So agree with the crappy c.g.i. It's up there with the "shrek" like dark seekers from "I am legend". Less is definately more, trachyotomies not withstanding. Is this director or "Martyr"s director going on to direct the remake of gore/mutilation extravaganza "Hellraiser"? Martyr is still tops!!
You mention the moodiness of the pregnant women. Well, Considering she is pregnant, her husband died tragically AND it is Christmas, I would be moody and I don't think someone would 'grow up' or grow out of that fairly fast. I know things happen fast and unreal in films, but I felt it was done well if you can see things from her perspective. Great review, the cgi baby stuff took me out of the film, probably the only issue, otherwise super violent/gore-filled film. Martyrs is tops, though.
Hey Snowman, Agree entirely with the appraisal of Beatrix Dalles performance. Remember her from betty blue? Men of a certain age. Love the sequence when she freaks out outside the bathroom door and kills the cat. She fills the screen. Loved the sequence when the disfigured police man turns around. However i did not care for the ending one bit. Some taboos may serve some purpose. So not "the road".
nice review, as a french guy, i've got to say i just don't like this movie, i like the gore but the way how it been filmed no (looks a really cheap DTV movie) and i really don't like the actress (the crazy one) on movie or in real live
but if peoples like him it's cool, he had better critics on the rest of the world than his own country
An interresting review on À l'intérieur (Inside) and I can agree with you on the outrageus violence and that it is "to much". But as i´ve mentioned in my own review from Martyrs; hopefully no one needs to find out how much a human being can take.
Hope you´ll do reviews on Frontier(s), and Ils also some day.
I just watched this movie and I didint really care for it all that much. I was going to turn it off at about 30 min untill it started to get mega gore out the ass and for me that is what saved it. the way the film ended was rather shocking and I found my feelings split on it
Does anyone understand why the officer attacked sarah?

A brilliant french masterpiece, incredibly atmopshere and the like. Yet the UK gets the awesome Box art! ;p

why does she stab her own throat and then tape it up at the end?
