Guy reminds me so much of my 5yr old the way he talks and how fascinated w. the conveyor belt. thanks for sharing i have to get my lil guy to help more at the store i think he would enjoy it.
I have read alot about GF/CF diets, my wife and I have researched just about every option. After alot of trial and error we found it was better to feed our child what he would actually eat even if it isn't always the best thing for him. We tried the various diets and found no change in his attitude or behaviour. He is too smart sometimes and knows what is and isn't real sugar...lol pretty much if it is healthy for him or he doesn't want it he will starve himself.
Very nice video i like the music at the end to. How long have guy and Isabella been autisic. How old is guy. How old is Isabella in the video. What kind of diaper is Isabella wearing. Does Isabella wear diapers all the time.
@4VGDG Guy is now 12 and Isabella is almost 9. The vid is from 2007 and both of them have matured quite a lot since then -- for example, neither of them use diapers now. They were both born autistic.
true my child has autism and she was found this head lice and her hair is down her waist the nurse advise me to cut it off to make it easy for me to claen in well may be with a typical child it took me three days and nights to clean her hair her sister's long hair and the entire household but i dindn't cut no hair and i got them clean
Do people sometimes mistake your son for being a girl with as hair as long as his is? Not that a boy with long hair is a bad thing... It's beautiful hair, but very long, almost like mine was at that age.
I think you are a wonderful mom. You kept calm when she didnt want to move to the back seat and you stated you point clearly, in a calm and mature manner while giving a calm explaination as to why you wanted her in the back seat. Also, having your kid help in the supermarket gives kids confidence and the feeling that their choices can be trusted. You also compliment them by saying "Good...good job". In my opinion, this is great parenting all round.
I saw somewhere that lice like really clean hair so give them a break. He could have gotten it at school. I was wondering if you used car seats your daughter looked young, in my state you have to use them for a long time.
you have your children on a diet that contributes to autism. your food choices were all poor. what happened to GF/CF cookies, pasta and pop tarts all contain wheat flour. my kid has autism and i would never give him artificial foods.
@wpcary1 Autistic kids who do not have medical issues do not need to be on a GF/CF, or any other xF diet. My children do not suffer from celiac disease or lactose intolerance or any other disorders that are treated with modified, or elimination, diets, so they do not need to avoid wheat or dairy, or any other sort of foods.
u have your hands full! bless guy guy isabella, hes a cool dude and has a very enthusiastic voice! kinda sounds like a child entertainer on a kids cartoon. love it when he said OH Dont cry isabella Cheers up. TRy him with a piano or something he may become a producer
i like, that you let guy do so much on his own even if i sometimes takes a bit longer, like at the conveyor belt ^^. and that you keep so calm with isabella in the car. i think you do great as a mother as far as i can tell from one video :)
Your kids are adorable! My son is 4.5 and Autistic as well. Seeing how much Guy not only spoke but used conversation rather than scripting and repeating really gave me hope! I can't wait until my Eric can talk to me more. Thanks for being a ray of sunshine on an otherwise dark day.

You need the parenting program called Love and Logic. It works for ALL kids, with a dx or not. I certainly hope Guy is on an IEP at his school. School is so important for these kids and not having them clean so they may be allowed in is a terrible tragedy for this child. It's actually pretty darn disgusting. And the school is NOT to be blamed for not letting him in!
First of all Margaret didnt blame the school for not letting him in, she actually looks very concerned and intends to solve the problem. Mom1ds: I think you dont really know how to deal with this sort of kids: I do.
I agree and there's no excuse for head lice. That is disgusting. And I hope this mom has read the research on food consumption and autism. We are not sure what all goes into processed foods...we do know that processed foods do contain (formaldehyde, red dye (beetles and dung). Maybe she'll think of that next time she's buying poptarts, leggo waffles, honeycombs, candy...etc.
There are these things called vegetables, grains, protein (and not chicken nuggets).
I really think that you should have kept your ..."enthusiasm" and "excitement" about this for yourself, in my opinion: out of place, momto1ds. Thanks and regards.
@momto1ds Love and Logic does NOT work for ALL kids. Especially when you have a child smart enough to figure the system out. The school and I both tried it with my son (aspergers) and we both found it pointless with him. He doesn't think like other kids the program does work with.
@momto1ds Dewd... If you know anything about lice, they actually prefer CLEAN heads, not dirty ones. Your insinuation that her child is dirty is unfounded. He is clean or he wouldn't have gotten lice and he probably got it from another kid at school. Lice is a common occurrence in public school. I'd keep my mouth shut if I were you or Karma might find you... Kudos to you Margaret for the courage to care for two auties. I only have one, love him to death and can't wait till he is verbal like Guy!
@momto1ds "Not having them clean"?? Did you even watch the video? Everyone looks clean to me. Mum is well-dressed. Kids look good. No clutter in the car. Children get lice from other children. One does not need to be unclean to get it.
Watching Guy-Guy was like watching my Granddaughter. However, I always thought our Granddaughter was absolutely normal, just a little on the intelligent side...
Guy is absolutely amazing, my son's hair gets long too, he really doesnt like having his hair cut, neither does my daughter, they are both autistic. I have the same problem with finger/toe nails (sensory issues). I think they both did great at the supermarket, Guy was so helpful what a star!
Cutting an Autistics Hair is not something that is done easily. Equally as tough is putting the hair "up". Some Autistics Find it "Painful", real or percieved, to have their hair cut. My Autistic Daughter did not have a haircut until she was 4 years old, that was one of the most challenging days of our life with her. Now she only gets a haircut 2-3 times per year she is now 13. Help raise Autism Awareness at Zazzle.
Complete agreement: whenever I try to comb my 6 year old daughter's (autistic) hair is a big scandal and neighbors think there is a butchery at home! With the psychologist's help we tried change her attitudes and we are getting a bit better every time, but it's hard. Still she would not let me put any kind of hair clips in her hair.
@TShirtBlitzCo My son is five and has Aspergers and he panics, screams, and then faints when we try to cut his hair. I would rather have my son with long hair than put him through cosmetic torture!
when guyguy is in the supermarket he needed his diaper changed bad , may i ask why you didnt change it before you went in ? the other girls diaper was ok why not his ? other than that well done and you have done well with your children but please dont leave kids in a wet or messy diaper for that long .
you must be a bad mom,you shouldnt say ur kids have lice,i wonder how hes going to feel when everyones makeing fun of him when hes like 10, it will,he'll get embarressed because you said he had lice, tell him, see what he's gonna say. No offence, its a good video..
He wasn't allowed in school because of lice so you take him to the supermarket where all our food is? The long hair is gorgeous but it needs to be clean.
Wow I have one daughter with autism and that's difficult so I feel for ya girl! Keep going and don't lose your head with all the stress you have to deal with. Thank goodness your older one is such a good helper! I hear lots of praise when they do a good job and that's so wonderful to hear.
Why in the world are you swearing at me for? I don't know what I have said that would make you swear at me?? I have seen many autistic children and I was saw that Guy had many strenths! Was it the long hair comment or something? I found him to be very sweet, and very well developed in terms of being Autistic. Please don't swear at me please anymore!
I found Guy's speech was very well developed for an autistic child. His autism traits were very evident with his toe walking, his hand flapping and jumping up and down. His interaction with the girl's tantrum in the car was very sweet! My daughter has autistm and I know that life is a challange! The only negative of the video that I found is that Guy really needs a haircut. Everyone think he is a girl & it is huge pet-peeve of mine to see boys with long hair! CUT IT!!
I agree, my nephew is an 8 year old autistic child and he can barely talk at all. He needs to be encouraged tremendously just to say Hi. This video was absolutely HILARIOUS! As for the hair, come on!!! BFD...it's cute.
WoW Guy needs a haircut...I thought he was a girl....I heard you call Guy a HE at the part where he is stimming (hopping up and down) at the conveyor belt...so I got that HE is indeed a HE. I too have an autistic child....Life's....interesting, challening but great. You daughter seems more cranky and typical as far as tantrums go in a NT child though....of coare based on what is seen in the video....who knows how her behavior is otherwise.
Watch the guy scratch its head before he picks up his first supermarket packet. I think he needs his hair checked again (hheh), but seriously you have the patience of a saint. Great work. You are blessed.
I just go to costco once a month and if my husband wants any extra junk, he can get it on his own! I only have one kid, and it's exausting enough to go as infrequently as we do! I come home, leave everything in the car and have my husband unload and put it all away! I must be a terrible wife!
I have a son who is autistic.Bless you it can be challenging. He also teaches me things its amaizing the little things we miss in life. That he notices. He just finished studying the united states map.And now he is working on countries.
The kids were very good once they got in the supermarket. The car is always the toughest. My young brother has bipolar disorder and can be very violent and also has severe OCD. I truly understand the hardships and think that you handled Isabella's tantrum well.
I have two Autistic children, your trip to the store was uneventful. Like most typical children. But, I understand the fear that comes with going into a public place that big and hopeing that all will go well and you won't have to deal with a tantrum or such. We have to watch what we do and say with my autistic child or he will have a fit and then the stares happen. You did a great job with them and you know how to control them with words.
i know how the stares are. I have a two year old littel girl and she has lost all of her words that she had when she was one years old. but if we are in the store and i stopped moving to look at something she will scream and wont stop till I take her out of that place and to the next place. sometimes I can get her to stop and some times I cant. she is having thearpy for speech and we also have a lady that comes in to help her do things like build and learn sing language.
It's a day in the life of autism at the grocery store..which is just like any other family goin to the store. (kids actin a fool :))But YOUR kids were really acting cool. Not to deflect from what you go therough day2day but it all seems to be workin in their favor as well as the divine plan
"The other basic Guy Guy food group" can I die laughing?! My son has PDD and when we shop, we have to make sure there's enough cheese in the cart. For the record, I think your kids did GREAT! We recently took to a clip on iPod (to block out all the supermarket noises) and sunglasses (to combat the flourescent lights) we also let him help like you do with Isa. Makes a WORLD of difference. You are quite the model and I'm impressed.
That was some good quality screaming by the girl. "We got all that food; now it's time to pay!" was a good line, too. It sounded like an advertisement.
"Dont cry isa, cheer up" Sweetest thing ever :)

I just go to costco once a month and if my husband wants any extra junk, he can get it on his own! I only have one kid, and it's exausting enough to go as infrequently as we do! I come home, leave everything in the car and have my husband unload and put it all away! I must be a terrible wife!

The only thing good about supermarkets is the frozen food section. Thats where the fishsticks are.

The kids were very good once they got in the supermarket. The car is always the toughest. My young brother has bipolar disorder and can be very violent and also has severe OCD. I truly understand the hardships and think that you handled Isabella's tantrum well.

aww your children are beautiful. My youngest is Aspergers/ADHD and eldest is Full blown, non verbal. Trips to the grocery store are hell!!!! lol

Not to deflect from what you go therough day2day but it all seems to be workin in their favor as well as the divine plan

what is so strange about this trip to the grocery store? It looks a lot like my trip to the supermaket with my none autistic children.

Ben is almost 6, still have to keep him in the cart, he would run if I didn't, but he shares the same penchant for the conveyor belt!

Your Guy-Guy reminds me of my youngest with the conveyor belt.
