  • Does anybody know of any tabliture for this or video? Her playing is ace and I can't find out how she does it.

  • @fionnjapan just use your ears,bro :)

  • Talent and personality in abundance!

  • OMG, this is great! Thanks for sharing. I love the blues, but hadn't run across her before. EPIC! Thanks.

  • My band has "Rosetta" in it's name, and for years I would see Rosetta Tharpe's name in various alphabetical listings near us. But I never checked her out for some reason, even though I love the blues. Now I finally come here...and I LOVE it. She's so cool. And I agree with a recent comment - this is what makes Youtube great.

  • She makes me cry in happiness. And also, I´m falling in love...

  • She makes me cry in happiness

  • WOW!

  • I believe it Sister ! ! !

  • The 2 people that have disliked this are clearly dead inside...

  • this is the kind of stuff that makes Youtube great! U would never see this music any where else. I love it!!!

  • terrif

  • Very nice version of this typical song from her repertoire, and she lives it really...she certainly influenced musicians like Louis Armstrong with songs like "This Train", "Didn't rain?"...More people have to know about her...It's good to SEE her! Thank you for posting this...

  • beyond words !

  • She hears heaven up above her head. She was truely on fire on fire for JESUS. Glory to God!!!!!

  • There was nothing and that exploed in the Big Bang

  • I like the guitar attack, cool

  • nice guitar and singer and song.

  • Очень крутая тётя!)

  • Beautiful. Sister Rosetta Tharpe is a legend in rock music.

  • Hands the down THE FIRST QUEEN OF THE ELECTRIC GUITAR!!!!! WOOOOOO!

  • That's our history. She actually had the guts

To go out with a electric gutar and in front

Of the camera a sung. That's bravery right

There especially RIGHT SMACK IN THA

50'S!!!!!! I'll be scared some boys in a pick-

Up truck waiting for me outside

  • Wow just found out about her, she sent shivers down my spine.

  • That's so awesome!

  • It just does not get any better than this. Rosetta was beautiful !! Her vocals shook the room and her electric guitar work could melt Chuck Berry at three paces. She could rock Heavens gates!

  • @taildragger53 She was around before Chuck Berry and I betcha he was groovin on her before he started singing about gettin' little girls! hehe

Her Version of This Train in the 30's proceeded Chuck Berry. This woman was amazing.

  • Lord have mercy, this sister had it going on.

  • Such joy, what a beautifull woman, was she sister as in christian sister. Thanks for sharing.

  • @bigsamable1 She was for a while an evangelist for the Church of God in Christ.

  • I believe it too.

  • Amazing - want to hear more!

  • so so good!!!!!

  • This is too awesome for words! Most of the old time blues music is male dominated and although there were some female blues singers its great to see a guitar player as well!

  • ALL IN MY ROOM!

  • many people say that rosette tharp went to heaven ... then Tharp can not play guitar ... so it is in hell that there guitar and rock n roll

  • i hope to hear her sing in heaven

  • She makes me want to believe too!!

  • Thanks for sharing! I really needed to hear this today : )

  • this isnt an acoustic guitar.its a gibson electric and shes playing it through a electric amp.its very important because in her time alot of american christianity considered electric guitars satanic.

  • thats no an acoustic guitar, its a gibson electric through an electric amp.the guitar is some sorta double cutaway es model.its very important that we understand the guitar is electric because in her time and still in parts of american christianity, electric guitars where considered satanic.

  • I don't believe in religion, but Sister Rosetta Thorpe makes me believe in god and Heaven.

  • Definately a picker, not just a strummer.

  • If there is a "heaven somewhere" you can bet Sister Rosetta is on the bill. She had more music in her little finger back then than the entire industry does today.

  • holy crap! How did i not hear about her? She is unfreaken believable! AMAZING!

  • You never heard of her because nobody can make 5 minutes of room a day in their broadcast schedule for blues and gospel.

  • No kidding, I just discovered her today and wonder where the HELL I have been!! And I'm a lifetime guitar player...I feel like I've just woke up.

  • :) music to ur ears huh :)

  • Wonderful to see and hear this, just wonderful!!

    Thank you,

    Lena

  • what a genius this woman!!!!

  • What a beautiful woman!

  • I named my 2nd guitar after her ^__^..

  • @llennusz Good idea, think I'll do that too!

  • I just fell into a pool of musical love!

    Go Sister Rosetta Tharpe!!

    Thank you from Canada.

  • I love this clip! I'm keeping it on my desktop for when I want a little boost of happiness.

P.S. to Synap: She only said that "there's a heaven somewhere," which could be that little heaven you make for yourself right there where you are.

  • i believe in nothing

but she makes me want to

  • @synapsecracklepop I know just what you mean. Sister Rosetta does more in 1:20 that 18 centuries of Popes and all the tele-evangalists could never do for me.

  • She was incredible, love it!

  • I agree! I've never heard of Sister Rosetta Tharpe before, so thanks, Delancey Place!

  • WOW! what a lighting bolt of genius.

  • Gospel music is amazing live! Let Sister Rosetta open your heart to soulful gospel music. It's probably happening near your home soon.

  • This is the first time I've ever seen or even heard of Sister Rosetta Tharpe. But one thing's for sure, she is AWESOME!!

  • What kind of guitar is that?

  • the closest thing it looks like is a Gibson "Johnny A."

  • Sister Tharp The angels are rocking right now.

    She was a national treasure

  • a true original guitar player, and a great singer as well!

  • You never lied about that. Shes GREAT

  • Unbelievable! Who would have guessed.

  • For anyone out there that are King's X fans (if you're not look them up) one of their most famous songs Over My Head is based on this song.

  • if that dont put a smile in your heart then nothing will

  • Fantastic! That's real swinging spirituality! And I'm an atheist.

    Rave on sister! Rave on!

  • Beautiful track!!

  • Voice of an Angel - and guitar playing that shows No Fear!

  • One gets the feeling this woman know NO fear. What a great performance (of her many!)

  • Ms Rosetta Tharp, I wish I could play a guitar like her. I'd be the pied piper of feel-good music. And everybody would stop using drugs cause all they have to do to feel good is listen to my music

  • Don't you just want to go with her to whatever joyous place she's going? "Sister"- she's every soul's sister the way she embraces us...

  • Wow!!!!! i'm in love!!!

    Put her on guitar hero!

Really, if page had done this I'd be all over it. I'm more all over it than if some white english guy had played this well.

  • up above my head i hear music in the air ohh woo yeah!

  • kept thinking i heard her backing musicians...a second strummed acoustic guitar and even hints of a sax...but there's noone playing but her!

  • Not really acoustic, it's a Gibson hollowbody, which still classes as electric. But she was awesome. The version with the choir behind her was better in some ways, and this one was better in other ways. She was good either way.

  • YES... Acoustic this is an electric amplified acoustic guitar !! Do you really think that "Unplugged" from E.C. is completely acoustic? If so dream on your righteous dreams. This girl is more than stunning.

  • I'm not sure I follow, are you pissed off or agreeing or what? But this is an electric guitar either way, she's just using the pickup with the clean sound

  • A neat style of guitar picking! Legendary.

  • Pure music with heart and soul. And a real nice guitar too!

  • what a human- energy powerhouse....

it feels as if her body incapsulated the times and projected it through her voice.

    an her eyes....

    this is really dope!!!!!!

  • Just read about her in Guitarist magazine, she is amazing, I can't believe I've not heard of her before

  • owned

  • I discovered her on a BBC documentary recently. Sister Rosetta Tharpe was absolutely awesome. Her singing, playing, everything!

  • Man..that woman had class.

  • Oops, make that '35.

  • She's awesome...she sings a sensual duet you won't find anywhere online with Marie Knight that blows me away. Recorded at Decca in 1933. Sweeeeeeeet!!!

  • really nice...she reminds me of robert johnson. luv delta blues

  • Strange. I was a Rk 'N' Rl fan and knew a lot of Mahalia too. But never heard of Rosetta until today!!! Heck! How did that happen?

  • WOW! what a lighting bolt of genius.

  • SIMPLY THE GREATEST

  • Icebyte this Woman is a Icon in Jazz;Rock and Roll;Gospal,so what happen to the videos,Man the World need to hear and see what they missed;the worst thing about it,Sister Rosetta Tharpe died on my birthday,Oct.9,1973;She help started the stage format of the Performing Arts.(Esharpcool)Jazz Guitarist.
