  • In 1979 my older cousin's let me ride on their Nash banana skateboard. In the summer of 1986 I found a professional skateboard at a local garage sale for $5. US. I started skateboarding all over the neighborhood. I met a older skater & we hung out, one day I showed him my new drawing on the bottom of my skateboard, he asked who taught me how to draw. I said no one.

  • @TheSupersurgical & he pulled a paper back book out of his back pocket and showed me this underlined phrase: "et ignotas animum dimittit in artes" & asked if I knew what it ment. I said no, then he explained it roughly meant "he set his mind upon unknown arts". We wrote "et ignotas animum dimittit in artes" on all our skateboards and jean jackets for at least the decade. Ive come to learn that the phrase translates differently from translation to translation.

  • @TheSupersurgical Ever since then I have gone to great lengths to avoid seeing any visual representations of various styles of painting, although I love reading the history about them. My reason for this is to live by that motto "et ignotas animum dimittit in artes" & avoid poisoning my mind as much as possible.

  • @TheSupersurgical As of lthe past several years, I mos admit that I have thrown that to to the wind since I have become set in my ways as far as painting goes & developed my own style. I will never forget that day though. "Et ignotas animum dimittit in Artes!!!!!!" Thanks for Cubism info :)))

  • @TheSupersurgical Well...thanks for your interesting little story! 'Nobody' can be a very good teacher ! for sure. The *unknown Arts* you speak about are the very source that any *great* creator hits on within his or herself....you don't know where it comes from...but you do know when you hit *fountain* and it pours out. It happens to the few...and is not decreed by class /sex / or race.

  • @xyzllii . ...we all have our personal antenna's if we so choose to use them.

  • This is better than the Oxford English Dictionary! Ok... don't quote me on that, but seriously, thank you for the insight and inspiration. Delightful! "It all boils down" to bullion cubes. I think there is a poem in this... Not sure I can get it composed by the time you return from London though, but I'll keep it on the back burner and see what I can cook up. :)

  • @sonofwalt Sounds good Walt jnr...look forward to it...!!

  • Well I didn't know that about cubism - your vids are always so educational :)

  • @ljped I am a natural KNOW-ALL...!! haha...! Thanks for watching.

  • @ljped I know of Cubism, I had not know that old dirty bastard Picaso was involved with it though.

  • - Steff's right - but anyway...ahem ...French stock-cubes?....Nah, Cubism was actually begun by Paul Cezanne as his oblique way of seeing things through modern-day eyes (mainly) because of the recent invention of the daguerreograph (later termed 'photograph') which put everything into two dimensions. The 'cube' term, a 2D image thus transformed into 3D....which is ...a cube!

    - Braque and Picasso? ...Hmm ...probly a couple of opportunists methinks.

  • @Hellishcrusade You are being devilish..! I was talking about the term Cubism...coined by yer man.

Sure , Picasso loved Cezanne's later work...but he..Picasso said that it was his visit to the Humanities Museum where he saw African Art that changed the way he saw things...Great artists steal. Others copy. I am sure you agree.

  • @Hellishcrusade ...something funny about the Cézanne paintings that are credited for pushing cubism forward, well the 1 or 2 of them that is as being paintings he was like.... fuck-it,, & left them as is in a corner or some such.

Sure would like to know the providence on his pieces that fathered Cubism, something tells me they where found after he died in a pile of fuck-its.

  • I'm glad you shared that bit of trivia, I wasn't aware of it.

As one might expect from America, wearing one's T-shirt inside-out is a fashion statement. Just don't wear it backwards, that's nerdy.

As far as being caught on camera wearing your glasses, it's not your vanity that will suffer, just your reputation :-)

  • @Perroquet51 Trivia ! Trivia !! It is the most important revelation I have come across in ...DAYS. What is your name by the way ? Do I know you...? And as for my last comment...I am reassured that my viewers are of the highest caliber and intelligence and would understand what I meant...despite my slip...It was a live show after all...;-))

  • @xyzllii Those with sparkling reputations are not fit to be my friends :-)

Actually, it was a very interesting bit of information on Cubism. And you are right, it does transcend "trivia". I'm already trying to figure out a way to work it into a conversation. I don't think I can wait for anyone to unwittingly say the word "Cubism" so I can pounce on the moment.

  • @Perroquet51 I was only kiddin'...You could bring it in tho next time you do one of your 'cooking vids' if you could slip in a recipe with Cubes..!

  • I didn't know that either - nor did I know that your tee shirt was inside out until you told me!

  • @gypsyjazzer Thanks Gypsy...! :-)

  • ..what a nice and interesting lesson about cubism, thanks! It was fun to watch it and by the way - you really look great!!

  • @steffproductions Trying to catch up with your stunning-ness Steff...some chance...!! Haha !!

  • Aaaah, so that what the word cubism means...... Very informative. xyz. So cubes are handy for something other than making stews, or annoying us like that Rubik's thingy did for years!

I would'nt even have noticed your tee-shirt being inside out till you wrote it up! Who knows, it just might catch on! A trend-setter,eh?!

  • @poitinstill Yes...that Rubik thingy surely was a pain...but then I would say that...cos I couldn't do it at all !! Tanx for stopping by...

  • I know nothing about art at all, so I really enjoyed this!

Ahem... We've been at the lake without our sons this year. *wink* I grabbed my husband's shirt off the floor to wear shopping and it wasn't until we were in the store that we noticed I had it on inside out. hehe

On a sad note, both the boys will be coming with us went we return. *pout*

  • I hadnt heard that story before, interesting. Love your t-shirt:-)

  • @1DRock37167 Thanks for stopping by...thought you might have a cook's interest in it...I know you don't like to be called Chef...!

  • @jvforever72 jvforever yeh !! Thanks....

  • Thanks for sharing that very cubic moment with us and I must say you are looking fab

  • @77nova454 Well 77....we do what we can for art....sigh......haha...and thanks...

  • I love fascinating connections like this--art and gastronomy meet. Yes, inside-out T-shirt is noticed, noted, admired, especially with the earthy jewelry. My son's T-shirt fashion statement is to take the front end, lift it over his head and have the shirt only covering his back and arms--but he's 14 months old....

  • @HerAeolianHarp Sound a great style A.H. but I do not think it would suit me...somehow...y'know...walking into the store with bra to the fore...no no......besides..Sister Whatzit who the others refer to...would never do such a thing...!!

  • I didn't know that! Thanks! I enjoyed learning new things daily...and this one the thing I learned today! Yesterday's was about how celery can lower blood pressure. Such and interesting life I live....LOL I didn't notice the Tshirt until you mentioned it. I'll have to try that and make my fashion T statement...:-)

  • @GreatGig1 Well thank you GG...I too like to know new things...celery and blood pressure...hmmmn...last time I had it done ...about a decade ago ?? I was low..prob not now tho so off I go for bunches of the humble veg..

  • That's the shot rosspot! Slan!

I think!?!? Been googling Irish slang, had to stop & laugh quite a few times, being quite the neddy mongo sap & all.

  • @MidiPunk Is that Shot Rosspot..,? or just Rosspot ? And maybe I should say Slainte ;-))

  • very cool video... thumbs up!

  • @DavidRandallCurtis Ooops...it's you...! Thanks David

  • The Cubist Epoch is a must have...

  • @AxeMoose Interesting origins of the name all the same

  • @xyzllii It is at that - I think I heard it before... But I am not sure. By the way the thing I mentioned last post is a book...

  • You are very adorable with your inside out T-shirt. That was a fascinating bit of art history. I couldn't help but notice the doll head in the background and wondered what story might be attached to it. -Steve-

  • @OceanTownPictures The dolls have been props in various things..will send you one cos I can't remember it's name just know...duh...At present they serve as wig stands...haven't worn those in vids for ages...I have calmed down and not sure that that was a such good idea...? Artistically speaking...of course...thanks Steve.

  • Every bit as informative as Sister Wendy and scads more alluring -- you might have a new career ahead ... don't worry about the glasses, they add authority -- heheh.

  • @liz1060 Jayzus...who is sister wendy...aaah...!

  • @xyzllii ooo ... you must google Sister Wendy -- she's adorable!

  • @liz1060 I will Liz...I will...have to sus out the competition...!! I might get into the habit yet....oh now i AM BEING SILLY....!
