@davidlenander Definitely. He thought it wasn't the Holllies' style, and he was right... but the group was more into showmanship than original, heartfelt songs with a message, which was more of what Graham was all about.
Truly a waste of time and effort. The brass is awful. Maybe if they'd stuck with the banjo, it might have been a curiosity-- Mighty, mighty Quinn, king of the wild frontier.
I reach out to my friend Jeff and dedicate this song to him..I remember that he loved this song! Bless you Jeff and thanks for being a big part of my favorite childhood memories.
@dylanizer1 dylon was great like that... meaningful word put together so perfectly and beautify you could understand it all and still be mystified by them. He was a poet

@MissYooHoo74 I agree about that wonderful voice. But we know why the great Graham Nash could not - it grieved his sensibilities so much for the Hollies to sing music they were not suited to.
Nobody covered Dylan's music like Roger McGuinn and the Byrds BUT, with that having been said, I do like a couple of the Hollies' efforts on Dylan stuff including this recording and their version of Bob's "My Back Pages." Check it out if you like this.
I can`t blame Nash for leaving. If they were going to go away from their self penned songs (Clarke-Hicks-Nash) that represented most of their big hits and then to cover a Dylan song in this kind of mainstream pop flavor, not their proudest moment. I often wonder what they would have done if Nash had stayed. His last album with them was a real nice record.
I could not imagine Graham Nash having sung a Dylan song 'in the Hollies style' apart from the ones he had already done. This was not right for him; not quite right for the Hollies, either, as Nash maintained.
But, oh, how Nash praised his old mates and Terry Sylvester when 'Hollies Sing Hollies' came out!!!!
wow, i've never heard this version. my name is Quin, so you know I gotta love this song, no matter which band is playing it! how many people cover this? I know Dylan wrote it, manfred man did it, and i guess these guys, the Hollies. never even heard of them. does anyone else cover this song?
Has more of a Civil War Feeling 2 it? Some say Dylan wrote this about a type of LSD? Butthen w/Dylan songs U can never tell? If you Listen to The Beatles and Lennon's "Everybody has something to hide 'cept 4 me & my monkey" from their Wht Album it is basically the same structure based on this tune.
He escuchado covers muy buenos de temas de Bob Dylan pero entre los mejores están éstos de The Hollies. Los coros nos brindan armonías casi angelicales.
"In 1814, we took a little trip..." Seriously-- this is "Johnny Horton Does Dylan!"
