  • Life is so fuckin sad these days good song anyways

  • i cant understand what there syaing in some parts but one of the best songs ive heeard in along time

  • Dead Oceans

  • simply one of the best songs I have ever heard....

  • idk moon&antarctica one of the best records i've heard. fuck new modest mouse though. this, ya it reminded me of them when i first heard it. just puro instinct i guess. but anyways, thanx for pitchfork's best albums list for showing me some magnificent music.

  • Uhhhh I'm tired now

  • Califone got to be one of the most singular bands going on out there, with such a brilliant beautiful sound.

  • actually modest mouse brought me here, they play a song together called "south of heaven" its a cover of a slayer song. look it up its really good

  • Grande canzone...evocativa

  • it reminds me of a folk version of modest mouse

  • @TucanSam81

They are friends with and have toured/collaborated with Modest Mouse but have been around much longer.

  • @rhinovb14 yea i just stumbled upon this band and fell in love with em their pretty bad ass

  • @rhinovb14 They've been around for that and much longer - check out some Red Red Meat to see them at their infancy. Amazing group. California is lucky to have Tim Rutili!

  • @sassmouth11 the name has nothing to do with california

  • @Drtano I know that - . last I heard Tim Rutili lives in California doing soundtracks.

  • @sassmouth11 "California is lucky to have Tim Rutili!"

I assume you are talking about Tim moving to California to work on film scores? Some people aren't aware of that, which might explain some of the responses to your comment, but others show up here and they think the band's name is California. But Califone or California or whatever people are saying isn't enough:

The UNIVERSE is lucky to have Tim Rutili. I am very lucky to have found Tim's music, which is like the soundtrack to my life.

  • @mickycisme:

Yah... you're probably right! They are great. The music brings me peace.

  • @TucanSam81 That's probably because the main member worked with Isaac Brock in Ugly Casanova.

  • @TucanSam81 Tim Rutili and Isaac Brock made an album together actually; Ugly Casanova

  • @TucanSam81 ... I have to say Modest Mouse can't touch the brilliance of this song (IMO)

  • @corybott you should take another listen

  • @corybott

No doubt at all, Califone stands alone in being one of the most amazing bands today.

  • @corybott check out the microphones!

  • @lopati0 i know, huh? awesome!

  • @corybott I'd have to say that your dead wrong, considering that Modest Mouse has quite a library, in which every song(quite literally) is exceptional in one way or another(or many more ,) and that doesn't exclude the fact that the majority of their work is on par with this or even better. The song is lovely and so is the band, but Modest Mouse has been as brilliant as this a few times over

  • @cloverfield23666 well, i said 'in my opinion' , and you can have your own, but i think the vocals are miles beyond MM , and that makes it for me.

  • @TucanSam81 I can't believe you just said that. MM is brilliance at it's prime.

  • @maymay1229 so true, modest mouse is a legend. modest mouse is life. literally.

  • @TucanSam81 i saw calfone open one time for them in chicago :P

  • @TucanSam81 Just listen to Ugly Casanova.

  • I fuckin..love it I've had the most terrible few days .and these guys just open the door to sunshine even with their mellowdramatic concepts....fuckin love em

  • this song was wayyyyyyy better live.

  • @mikeoxlong11

I agree. As was evidence and Bunuel

  • Call it minimalism, or call it low-fi, I've been listening to this band since the days of the first Red Red Meat album...whenever that was. They're bloody fantastic. Each song, you can pick 'em straight away, but that tempo is just magic, and like a lot of american stuff (I don't want to admit it...) there's a real pathos about a lot of it. AND @kd350, some of those lyrics are really profound; just poetic. If you can't manage to get that, it really is your loss. Califone, COME TO OZ!!!

  • Four four time, four chords over and over. Downstrokes on an acoustic...what's the big deal? No slide, or finger players. Sounds like a home recording...

  • @kd350 Lol obviously you don't like music in general. Some of the best songs are simple chord changes. idiot.

  • @neobob187 For example: "the Passenger" by Iggy Pop the Stooges.

  • @kujoalt That's just Iggy by himself, no Stooges present :)

  • @kd350 They are a folk band...its a different style recording process...

  • All my friends are half-gone birds

  • This is awesome...love it.

  • Wow surprised to see so many people aren't more aware of this band. Maybe its because I live in Chicago and they are extremely popular here but I've been knowing about this band for a minute. Get the album they did right after this one,,,

  • Sort of sounds like Bowie's 'Starman.' Especially in the beginning.
